We live in a very special hour of the plan of salvation. That this was fully known to the disciples is abundantly clear from their words published in the Bible under the inspiration of the Spirit. The following is a perfect example.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19

That “times of refreshing” did come beginning October 22, 1844. We know this to be fact because God confirmed the movement of Christ into the Most Holy place on October 23, 1844 in a vision given to his church through Hiram Edson.

We know that the “times of refreshing” did come because in our study of the sanctuary service in the typical, the Day of Atonement was the day of the blotting out of the sins that had been confessed. According to the text, these two events are happening together. So we can say, since the time of the blotting out of sins has come, that means we are in the times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.

This is intensely interesting. Much, very much of the plan of salvation is focused on this point. We need to bring in another very important text.

and this is the refreshing: Isaiah 28:12

There are sixteen verses in the Bible that us the word refresh in some form. The first two tie this word directly to the Sabbath. Exodus 23:12; 31:17 Very interesting….

And Isaiah 28:12 also says, “This is the rest.” That means that rest and refreshing are very nearly the same thing. Hebrews has something to say on this rest too.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4:9-11

So what is this rest? and what is this refreshing? and what is behind the word this? what is it talking about? Hebrews again has something to say about it.

For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. Hebrews 4:4

“Oh! the Sabbath, it’s the Sabbath!” you say. Not so fast. The answer is both yes and no. It is the Sabbath on the surface, of which the other does not negate, but it is much more than the Sabbath. More from Isaiah.

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. Isaiah 28:11-13

Have you heard God’s voice speak to you with stammering lips? That’s a real question. How about with another tongue? I know, SDAs are terrified of tongues. I did not write the Bible, that is just what it says. It is saying that God’s voice heard as stammering lips and another tongue is the rest and is the refreshing, BUT, they would not hear it! Why? Because it was foreign to them, it scared them, they were not familiar with it!!!

That is exactly why God says that we need to enter into this rest. We must become familiar with this refreshing. It is God’s voice, that’s what it says. Then it says, “the word of the Lord,” I think that means God’s voice, and it goes on to carefully show us in very explicit language that it must be God’s word, stacked on top of Bible text, on top of God’s word, on top of Bible text, on top of God’s voice in the authentic Spirit of Prophecy, on top of, a total of ten layers deep!!!

What is this? It is very carefully explained in the Bible.

not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:13-14

Right here is a big problem with Laodicea, they think they are rich in spiritual discernment, No. 23, p. 12, when the very fact that they know nothing about the true Sabbath rest and refreshing is prima facie evidence that they most certainly are not.

Better study it! Don’t be a natural man who won’t receive the things of the Spirit of God!

God Bless your Study
