These Bible words make a nice lesson. Watch the parallel phrases and words, then the definitions.

To know wisdom and instruction;
To perceive the words of understanding;

To know is to perceive. Wisdom and instruction are words of understanding.

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
To give subtilty to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion.

To receive instruction is giving subtilty and knowledge and discretion.

A wise man will hear,
and will increase learning; and

Hearing is to increase learning and attaining.

A man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

A wise man is a man of understanding and understanding is wise counsels.

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation;
the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. Proverbs 1:2-6

A proverb is the words of the wise and the interpretation is a dark saying.

There is no true wisdom apart from God and all wisdom is in fact Christ, the Word, in you, the hope of glory; the same Word was in the beginning, “and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:1-5

So God sent John the Baptist before Jesus Christ to prepare the way; “John was a representative of the people of God in the last days, to whom God has committed important and solemn truths,” Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 2, page 44. Of him Christ said, he was God’s word teaching God’s word, John 5:35.

This means… that if you accept this method of hearing and increasing your learning, you will come to know wisdom, instruction and perceive words of understanding, you will receive instruction from God, gain subtilty, knowledge, discretion, the understanding of proverbs, parables, the words of the wise men of God and their dark sayings and be obedient to this instruction.

You will become a part of that group of the people of God in the last days of whom John the Baptist was a representative. Think very carefully of how John lived… and died.

Many people these days are thinking that time is about done, or, in other words, Christ will return soon. But it’s always about five to ten years out.

We are in the patient, waiting, watching time. I am and will be largely focused on and taking phrases from, No. 16, pages 85 to 104, titled Epistle Number Seven for today’s post. It is quite specific to this point of being in expectation of Christ’s second coming. I highly recommend that you print out these nineteen pages, get your marker out and read them, mark them; if that does not move you to a higher level of awareness of Christ’s very near return, then read it again while pleading with God in your heart to impress you of the great importance of this matter!

I am a fourth generation SDA. We are now 169 years from 1844. Because of this seemingly great disparity in expectations many keep Christ’s coming about ten years out, which really is a form of “forever,” but in their actions are proclaiming their true faith, that Christ is not coming in their lifetime, so an “I must take care of me” attitude springs up and without notice our minds are filled with the world and there is found no place in our minds for that all important seal.

But maybe you were not planning to go anyway? In which case you can just skip this post and get on with your day, right? But if you are planning to go, maybe, just maybe, you should do what it takes to get these pages into your mind.

It’s been over forty years since I graduated from academy. My Dad and my Mom are in the grave. It’s over for them, their probation has closed. It does not matter if Christ was coming, because he didn’t. But this is a major point in this whole thing. If Christ does not come before you die, your probation closes at death; therefore, you MUST prepare NOW, not later. There is no “later.”

Those that have died in the faith of this message are resurrected by the voice of the Father, but this is the deliverance of the saints. There are no trials to be endured, no temptations to resist, and no overcoming to do, for all are perfect as they come from the grave. Did the grave change them? No! They were perfect when they went into the grave.

And that is exactly where we are to be. We must overcome the world in the here and now.

God foresaw all this and took the very best route to preserve the saints all through the patient, waiting, watching time. And that method is to believe in the immediate second coming of Christ. That is the key.

If we are keeping that glorious event foremost in our thoughts every day, we will make better decisions when it comes to worldly business. Maybe God has some work for you to do that you can not do if you take that job in Arkansas (a state in the USA). We weigh our decisions based on what is in our minds. If our minds are full of the world, we are going to make a decision based on the suggestions that Satan is constantly putting in our minds. That is what the world is all about.

If your mind is filled with faith and trust in God, believing in the immediate second coming, you will probably make better, more spiritual decisions. You will weigh matters on spiritual scales instead of the world’s scales.

The great importance of this whole thing is for us to understand that we MUST get ready for eternal life right now. Then, it will not matter if comes this year, next year or in another hundred years; because you will have the seal in your mind that you must have upon the closing of your probation; which happens at your death or when Christ throws down the censer.

I feel the danger to the saints on this point. As interesting as world events are, they are nothing compared to your perfection of your character. Embrace what you must, what God puts in your path today. He did it to get you perfected. He is preserving your very life to give you tests and trials that reveal your true condition to you. Accept this, embrace this, love God for his great mercy to work to prepare us. It is the bitter cup he has given us in mercy and love.

Then, whatever happens—you will be sealed.

We are doing some housekeeping chores today.

The “List of Events and Processes the Saints are Living Under” has been updated with a couple of items.
You can go to this link for the Articles page, it is No. 18.

Or you can download the article in PDF at this link.

Or you can go directly to the article at this link.

Probably one of the better safeguards for the saints in these last days is the correct understanding of our current position on prophetic time, better known as “a day for a year.”

The Lord has shown me that the message of the third angel must go, and be proclaimed to the scattered children of the Lord, and that it should not be hung on time; for time never will be a test again. I saw that some were getting a false excitement arising from preaching time; that the third angel’s message was stronger than time can be. I saw that this message can stand on its own foundation, and that it needs not time to strengthen it, and that it will go in mighty power, and do its work, and will be cut short in righteousness. p.48, [CEV].

There are many self-sent people proclaiming some form of prophetic time to yet be fulfilled. This is a device of Satan to trap some who are tempted to be im–patient in this patient, waiting, watching time.

We all would like to be the “ones” who go through the time of trouble such as never was, with out seeing death. But we are tested in this time on this point, in addition to others. Patience, patience, patience, is what this time calls for. We have no assurance that any one particular person will go through without seeing death.

Great patience was called for when the first angel’s message ended. Great patience was again called for when the sun set on October 22, 1844. And as the years have rolled on, 168 of them so far, we also in our turn have a great need of patience.

Showing a calm patience under peer pressure to “do something!” is showing a character that is trusting in God for all things.

You will ever find with the true Christian a marked cheerfulness, a holy, happy confidence in God, a submission to his providences that is refreshing to the soul. p. 64, Para. 4, [24OT].

The precious promises of God are not given to strengthen man in a presumptuous course, or for him to rely upon when he rushes needlessly into danger. God requires us to move with an humble dependence upon his providence. It is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. p. 26, Para. 3, [25OT].

Even though I believe in the immediate second coming of Christ, I may be laid in the grave before, but we are instructed by God to live in constant expectation of that event. All this is carefully calculated by God to divide between those who will, and those who will not.

Be one of the ones who will.

We have also fixed the digital copy of the 1851 CEV. It was originally digitized by others from a publication that was not original, hence the paging did not match the original, which created some difficulty when communicating with others that were working only from the digital.

Our next hidden treasure word in the text of Obadiah 18 is, Jacob. In some respects this appears to be rather complicated, for the name means one thing, God, however, changed Jacob’s name. We’ll put up some verses and see what comes of it.

   2.) Jacob

And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.  Genesis 25:26

And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.  Genesis 25:27

And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:  Genesis 27:11

And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. Genesis 27:36

And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.  Genesis 35:10

And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:  1 Kings 18:31

But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter;  Romans 2:29

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.  Galatians 3:7

And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.  Galatians 3:29

By these texts we can see that even though God changed Jacob’s name, he still used it later on and over the years, more than once. Also, the fact is made abundantly clear that all who accept the gospel and become Christians are, spiritually, the children of Abraham, and, spiritually, belong to one of the tribes of the sons of Jacob.

And this brings us to the 144,000. 12,000 of each tribe. Interestingly, there are only twelve gates into the city. We think these verses apply here, speaking of Abraham.

and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.  Genesis 12:3

that he might be the father of all them that believe, Romans 4:11

of Abraham; who is the father of us all,  Romans 4:16

Thus, all, even from Adam to the last saint to be saved, will be, spiritually, a son of Jacob. But it is the 144,000 that Jacob especially figures.

Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.  Jeremiah 30:7

In the 1858 Great Controversy, page 203, God tells us that those living through that time must “drink of the cup and be baptized with the baptism” of the anguish they experience, before being delivered. We wonder many things about this day.

Monday October 22, 1844-2012

One Hundred and Sixty Eight years, now past, since a perfect and prepared for translation, people, stepped outside and watched the sky, with a perfect faith, knowing Christ would soon appear, sometime, that very day. (see 1858 Great Controversy, page 142)

James poignantly  writes, “The love of Jesus filled every soul, and beamed form every face, and with inexpressible desires, they prayed, “Come, Lord Jesus, and come quickly. But he did not come.” Sermons on the Coming and Kingdom, 1870, p. 180, (authentic edition only. It has been counterfeited by the church.)

We live in an amazing hour of earth’s history. God’s true church of Philadelphia, the Advent people, formed the Seventh-Day Adventist church, which has since apostatized from the faith and become Laodicea.

Because God removed the true Spirit of Prophecy (see No. 20, p. 42-49) from a rebellious people, and gave them over to a “strong delusion,” that is, the lies of the counterfeit SOP, the 144,000 must, of necessity, separate from the rebellious; or they are partakers of the sins of the rebellious and loose their crowns. By so doing, they become  “not defiled with women [spiritually: a church], for they are [spiritually] virgins.”

Becoming aware of the day and hour of our time, carries with it a solemn realization of eternal realities. Properly identifying our time emphasizes those realities even more. To help with this, we place here our current understanding of our time; to aid the reader with his study, and promote the unity of the scattered flock.

Also understood by others, R. F. Cottrell, “Spiritual Gifts,” page 15, 1858 Great Controversy, “The whole gospel dispensation may be called the last days, but to say that the last days are all 1800 years in the past, is absurd. 23.)    The Resurrection of the Authentic, Original Spirit of Prophecy. — (The Great Controversy, 1858, p. 194, “The last great work of the third angel’s message.”)

In looking back over the years of SDA history we can see a few who stood up, from time to time, to announce the discovery of the counterfeit. But in those times it was very difficult to communicate such a discovery. Today we have the power of the computer and the Net, both circumvent the throttling attempts of the establishment.
Then, it was hard to actually unravel the twisted path of the counterfeit. Then, a group of three to four would follow the tedious reading of each character. Today, a software program, WordPerfect, performs a precise comparison of a medium sized article within about two minutes.
As of November 7, 2011, I know of seven people who are actively promoting the authentic, original Spirit of Prophecy. This information is irrefutable and unassailable.
We have this testimony from Ellen, via, a research paper by Bert Haloviak, In the Shadow of the “Daily,”: Background and Aftermath of the 1919 Bible and History Teacher’s Conference,  page 24.

“In 1918 Stephen Haskell recalled a conversation with Mrs. White some 40 years  previous [1878]. According to Haskell, Mrs. White predicted a time when the testimonies would be in demand ‘just as they were originally given in order to meet objections before we got through.’ ”

And now, PRAISE God, in his providence, we can meet the objections of those who claim that the Shaking is yet future, that the “short period” is yet future, &c.

Next known Step, Yet Future.

24.)    The World’s last Warning, The Loud CryStarts after Sunday is made a test. (No. 6, p. 22) “And then the fearful warning…”

Wednesday May 9, 2012

You are invited for a conference call meeting, May 12, 2012, 10:30 am, West Coast, USA, time. We will be learning from a man who I believe has been gifted by God to learn and teach William Miller’s 14 rules of interpretation of the Bible. In other words, Bible words, spiritually discerned.

The title of the talk is, “How to study a word in scripture using the Bible.” We will be using “Butter” as our first word. The plan is to open with a short presentation and open for Q &A. The meeting will be recorded and after the meeting you will be able to download an MP3 file for your use.

NOTE: You are welcome to attend, by invitation only. In this setting, this is your invitation. You must RSVP with an email to me, to get the phone number. You are also granted permission to invite others to this call and in so doing you are responsible to give them the phone number. They in their turn may do likewise. However, please do not post the phone number for the public, it is by invitation only.

The first time I talked with this man it was four hours on the phone. The second time, it was nine hours. I felt like I had hit a gold mine and all I had to do was just grab and go. This is all about the Bible, not the Spirit of Prophecy. We will be integrating this into this site moving forward.

This invitation is a first step and the second step is a word study site that will be released after the meeting. I will also be posting William Miller’s rules of interpretation for your use.

Look once again at the great sacrifice made for our salvation. Only this time, I want to remind you of something very real.

The scene of Christ’s sufferings was to be a fiery ordeal to his disciples, and hence the necessity of watchfulness and prayer. Their faith needed to be sustained by an unseen strength, as they should experience the triumph of the powers of darkness. p. 8, Para. 1, [17OT].

We can have but faint conceptions of the inexpressible anguish of God’s dear Son in Gethsemane, as he realized the separation from his Father in consequence of bearing man’s sin. He became sin for the fallen race. The sense of the withdrawal of his Father’s love pressed from his anguished soul these words: “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death.” “If it be possible, let this cup pass from me.” Then with entire submission to his Father’s will, he adds, “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.” p. 8, Para. 2, [17OT].

The divine Son of God was fainting, dying. The Father sent a messenger from his presence to strengthen the divine Sufferer, and brace him to tread his blood-stained path. Could mortals view the amazement and the sorrow of the angelic host as they watched in silent grief the Father separating his beams of light, love, and glory, from the beloved Son of his bosom, they would better understand how offensive is sin in his sight. p. 9, Para. 1, [17OT].

The sword of justice was now to awake against his dear Son. He was betrayed by a kiss into the hands of his enemies, and hurried to the judgment hall of an earthly court, there to be derided, and condemned to death, by sinful mortals. There the glorious Son of God was “wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities.” He bore insult, mockery, and shameful abuse, until his “visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men.” p. 9, Para. 2, [17OT].

Think again about the facts. If Christ paid the price for my sin, what was that price? If I were to pay that price, it would mean eternal death. Isaac was prepared to pay the price of obedience to the voice of God. He was going to allow his father to kill him, not knowing what was beyond, but trusting in God.

Christ paid the price for my sin,… which is eternal death, to whatever he was before his death. The Father’s sword of justice awoke against his dear Son,… and killed him, to pay that eternal price. But with Christ, there was no stay, as there was with Isaac. A lamb was provided to take his place. No lamb was provided to take Christ’s place.

Because Christ died, eternally to whatever he was before, the Testament, or, Covenant, or, Will  was enacted. Therefore, we, as Christ’s brethren, become heirs, with him. Yea, the Father paid the price that Abraham did not, because he so loved the world.

The 144,000 part 2.

The Gold Letter Texts are the ones shown to Ellen when she resisted the power of the Holy Ghost that came on her and she was struck dumb. We think these texts are of very great importance to God’s people in the final days.

Today I want to focus on just a few excerpts.

Because of the great importance, to the entire universe, the closing of the power of the wicked on earth, the entire Bible, especially the Old Testament, is crucial to understand for the church of Philadelphia. Hence the importance of the coming meeting on the 12th of this month. (see above)

Interestingly, not one of the Gold Letter Texts are from the Old Testament. I don’t understand that yet.

As I was thinking about the 144,000, and all that was entailed there; the issue of martyrs surfaced. I know so many people have thought that no one would be martyred in the last days. But, Revelation 20:4 is very clear on this point. The Gold Letter Texts are found to be very important for the church of Philadelphia. This is a part of that importance, preparation for paying the ultimate price.

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings,  and grant unto thy servants that with all boldness they may speak thy word, Acts 4:29-31

… but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Hebrews 10:35-39

And in nothing terrified by your adversaries;  which is to them an evident token of perdition,  but to you of salvation, and that of God.       For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ,  not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake. Philippians 1:6, 27-29

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord,  and in the power of his might.  Put on the whole armor of God,  that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.      For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,  but against principalities, against powers,  against the rulers of the darkness of this world,  against spiritual wickedness in high places.       Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God,  that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,  and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, …. Ephesians 6:10-18

And that stand just may be on the plain of Dura; almost alone, just the three of you. With other SDAs begging you to just kneel, just this once….

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth  through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren,  see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently. 1 Peter 1:22

Every man’s work shall be made manifest:  for the day shall declare it,  because it shall be revealed by fire:  and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 1 Corinthians 3: 10-13

And I say unto you, my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body,  and after that have no more that they can do: But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: fear him, which, after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, fear him.      Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings?  and not one of them is forgotten before God.      But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not, therefore; ye are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12: 3-7

For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee; And in their hands they shall bear thee up,  lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.   Luke 4:10-11

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness,  hath shined in our hearts,  to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.       But we have this treasure in earthen vessels,  that the excellency of the power may be of God,  and not of us.      We are troubled on every side,  yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;       Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.   2 Corinthians 4:6-9, 17-18

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation,  ready to be revealed in the last time.      Wherein ye greatly rejoice,  though now, for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:      That the trial of your faith,  being much more precious than of gold that perisheth,  though it be tried with fire,  might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.  1 Peter 1:5-7

For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.  1 Thessalonians 3:8

And these signs shall follow them that believe;  in my name shall they cast out devils;  they shall speak with new tongues;      They shall take up serpents;  and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;  they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.  Mark 16:17-18

Someone may try and poison you.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will,  and it shall be done unto you.  Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit;  so shall ye be my disciples.   John 15: 7-8

The crowns of the martyrs were heavy with stars.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

In this future, Satan will use every power possible. He will go as far as God will allow. There has to be good reason the saints will be afraid. I’m guessing it’s because there will be blood in the streets, real blood; enough to make you afraid blood.

Enough to make you participate in Revelation 14:15.

Today’s post is rather long. This length is largely composed of material from James White’s exposition of Matthew 25, the parable of the ten virgins. Great numbers of SDA membership are fully ignorant, of even the existence, of this material, let alone given any study to it.

Christ’s Object Lessons is assumed to have been written by Ellen, simply because her name has been attached to it. Hence, the great error of the application of the parable to a future date. We will deal with this point more in the future, ourselves.

Suffice it to say that James makes no such error. In fact, he does say, “Those who have given up the past Advent movement, as the work of man only or of unclean spirits, choose to apply the parable to the future, to be fulfilled at the coming of the Lord.” And thus we have the condemnation of those who are rashly denying the light of the Midnight Cry, falling off the path, never to return. The Day-Star.

I actually penned this in response to a question about the shut door, but it’s greater application demands a wider audience. In our study of Present Truth, as given to us by God, through the true pioneers of this faith, we discovered a great truth about the importance of the Gold Letter Texts, and their application to the church of Philadelphia, the one church that goes through to end, and deliverance by God.

At the seventh month, 1844, we were called out from the world. At the tenth, our sympathy was wholly with the expected Jesus. Previous to this, we were warning the world with tears to be ready for the Lord’s coming: but on that day, or about that time, our labor for unbelievers rolled off from us, and an unseen hand drew us away from the world, and shut us up in sweet communion with Jesus. The thrilling testimonies of leading brethren, published after the tenth, and the experience of the entire body of Advent brethren establish this point. The church of Christ, since the day of pentecost, has not experienced so sudden and so great a change in labor and feeling, as Adventists experienced in 1844. A few days before the tenth of the seventh month, thousands were running to and fro, giving the cry, and papers containing the message were scattered everywhere, like the leaves of autumn. But about the tenth, every Advent paper was stopped, and the traveling brethren returned to their homes, feeling that they had given their last message to the world. The state of feeling throughout the entire body of Advent brethren can be accounted for in no other way, than that a change then took place in the position of the “vine,” [Jesus,] and the living “branches” felt it. And as he ceased to plead for the world, and moved within the second vail, the living branches were called away from the world, and their sympathy was with Jesus, and with each other. p. 16, Para. 3, [MATT25].

We know certain things, one is that God is going to send a famine in the land for the Word of mercy. Here is a passage from the ’58.
“Those who had not prized GOD’S word were hurrying to and fro. They wandered from sea to sea, and from the north to the east, to seek the word of the LORD. Said the angel, They shall not find it. There is a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. What would they not give for one word of approval from GOD? but no, they must hunger and thirst on. Day after day have they slighted salvation, and prized earthly pleasure, and earthly riches, higher than any heavenly inducement and treasure. They have rejected JESUS, and despised his saints. The filthy must remain filthy forever.” p. 200, Para. 1, [GC58].

Something I could not understand til this morning was just how this famine could happen? How is it that with Bibles all over  the land, God’s people still on earth, how could they NOT get information? Page 199 of the ’58 seems to indicate that it is “after” the plagues start that the “famine” starts, but page 200 seems to be a stronger indication that this will start at the close of probation. God tells us, in The Day-Star, that the saints will hear the bells on Jesus’ high priest robe as he comes out of the Sanctuary in Heaven, and the saints will know that probation has closed.

And now, I think, comes the light of the Midnight Cry, that the saints at the end of the Loud Cry will “feel” just like the pioneers “felt” at the close of the Midnight Cry. The Holy Ghost lifts from them the burden of souls, all preaching, all publishing of the truth comes to a halt. It is over; and the saints know it.

We know that some things must happen in Heaven before the plagues fall. Christ must put on his kingly robe of vengeance and take his place on the cloud before the plagues fall. Whatever period of time is here involved, it is a period long enough that those who “feel” the loss, and are suffering the “famine” will have time to search “from the north even to the east” for the true bread of salvation.

Page 199, of the ‘58, says that, “the saints had nothing for them,” indicating that this burden for souls had left them.

This well compares with the wise virgins in the parable going in to the marriage. We might here remark also that on the day of atonement for cleansing the earthly Sanctuary, the high priest bore into the Holiest, upon the breastplate of judgment, the names of all Israel that could be benefited by the tenth day atonement. Thus our High Priest bore in, on the tenth day of the seventh month, 1844, all that had not rejected light and truth sufficient to be cut off from Israel. In this way the branches were borne in with the Vine. p. 17, Para. 1, [MATT25].

This paragraph is in perfect harmony with the ’58 on page 195:
“The light that was shed upon the waiting ones penetrated everywhere, and those who had any light in the churches, who had not heard and rejected the three messages, answered to the call, and left the fallen churches. Many had come to years of accountability since these messages had been given, and the light shone upon them, and they were privileged to choose life or death. Some chose life, and took their stand with those looking for their LORD, and keeping all his commandments. The third message was to do its work; all were to be tested upon it, and the precious ones were to be called out from the religious bodies.”
I believe the term used here, “religious bodies,” would have to include the GCSDA church, and it just seems to me that it is the business of the angel of Revelation 18 to call that church Babylon, but, . . . I could be way wrong on that point.

The important point is, with the Midnight Cry, the door of mercy was closed for those who rejected that message. But, the door was open to those who never had heard it. We must remember that those pioneers actually “lived” this message, just like I believe the saints at the end will enter into a true “living faith” experience before the Loud Cry. We will “feel” these things like never before.

The pioneers “lived” the burden for sinners drop off them, and the door being “closed.” Then, the outpouring of the Holy Ghost, and “lived” through the great disappointment. Yet, they were following Christ, in the path appointed by God for them to travel.

“And the door was shut.” This also was a literal door in the marriage, and was designed to illustrate an important event connected with Advent history, which we have already referred to in our remarks upon the coming of the bridegroom, and the going in with him to the marriage. Christ, the “Minister of the Sanctuary, and of the True Tabernacle,” was to officiate in the anti-typical daily ministration, until the termination of the 2300 days. Then that work for the world was to cease forever; and he was to pass within the second vail, and enter upon the work of cleansing the Sanctuary. This subject is made very clear by the following, addressed to the church of brotherly love. p. 17, Para. 2, [MATT25].

Notice the 2nd from last sentence above, “Then that work for the world was to cease forever;” it seems that a correct understanding here would be the truth of the experience of the Midnight Cry, the release of the “burden of souls” and the door of mercy being shut, but only to those who had heard and had rejected the Midnight Cry. Clearly this is a big part of the work of Christ in the Most Holy place, as depicted in the ’58, p. 163. It seems to me that probation for SDAs ends at the beginning of the Loud Cry, as they have rejected the light of the Midnight Cry all through the years of the Shaking, which God told us, started in January 26, 1850, The Present Truth, No. 9, p. 72, upper left corner, and, at the beginning of the article, previous page.

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that OPENETH, and no man SHUTTETH; and SHUTTETH, and no man OPENETH: I know thy works; behold, I have SET BEFORE THEE AN OPEN DOOR, AND NO MAN CAN SHUT IT; for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.” p. 17, Para. 3, [MATT25].

“This language is addressed to only one church of the seven. Adventists have agreed in applying them to seven periods, or states of the church. This language does not apply to the Sardis, [nominal church,] neither to the Laodicean church; but to the Philadelphia, the church of Brotherly Love, that came out of the different sectarian bodies, and were united in the Advent faith in 1844.”

I found this to be VERY interesting! Now, in the light of 167 years of distance from 1844, and the gross apostasy of the GCSDA church, PLUS, our very interesting study of the gold letter texts, the above passage seems to apply with particular force, driving home the point about the church of Philadelphia being THE church that makes it through! Praise God!

And what is it that we are seeking to do? Come out and being “united in the Advent faith” of 1844! Why? Because they are to set Present Truth for all the last days. Read “I was shown like this. The truth once got out now, will stand; for it is the truth for the last days, and it will live, and less need to be said upon the truth after it is out.” SupCEV, p. 14, center of the page. Many reject this, but it is the truth that the pioneers “lived through,” and “felt.”

All denominational tenets were laid aside, and although the Advent brethren came out from the different sects, yet all were perfectly united on the great subject of Christ’s coming. To this church, one door is opened, while another is shut. “Behold, I set before thee an open door.” This door Christ opens, while he shuts another. As the Philadelphia church applies to no other period than the time of the termination of the 2300 days, when Christ closed his work for the world in the Holy, and opened the door of the “Holiest of all,” the conclusion seems irresistible that the open and shut door of Rev. iii, 7,8, refers to the change in the position and work of our Great High Priest in the heavenly Sanctuary. He then closed the work or “door” of the daily ministration in the Holy, and opened the door of the Most Holy. “The tabernacle of the testimony” was then opened; but before this could be done, the “door,” or work of Christ’s continual mediation in the Holy had to be closed. This may well be “likened” to the shut door in the parable. p. 17, Para. 4, [MATT25].

The idea that the door of God’s mercy is closed, or ever was to be closed to those who do not reject the offers of mercy, is not found in the Bible. No such door is mentioned in Scripture. But that there ever has been a point, beyond which men may go, where, according to the plan of salvation, the intercession of Christ could not benefit them, is evident. The Jewish church, having rejected and condemned Christ, could not be benefited by his mediation in the Holy. The nominal Gentile church, as a body, having rejected the Second Advent, cannot be benefited by his intercessions in the Most Holy. p. 18, Para. 1, [MATT25].

Notice James’ choice of words here, which I believe to be correct, “As the Philadelphia church applies to no other period than the time of the termination of the 2300 days…” If we go back to Matthew 24, Christ says that this gospel shall be preached to all the world and then “the end” will be. And so it is. The gospel did go to all the world by the first angel’s message, in 1843, and “the end” came, the church of Philadelphia existed. . . . and still exists in “the end,” and will be the church that goes through to the second coming, for they are virgins, none of them defiled with some church, from the beginning of that church to the end.

It seems to me that this is clearly  a part of the light of the Midnight Cry that we are to be walking in. The application seems so natural and connected. It gives light on the point of the “famine” for God’s word I had not understood before.

I don’t know what to do about the pioneers starting a church. I have no understanding here. This is a gap I do not know how to bridge, yet. I am very confident that God will reveal the truth in this at an appointed time.

Part six of eight.

And many who were once conscientious, and loved God and his word, have become so hardened by rejecting the light of truth that they will not hesitate to wickedly misrepresent and falsely accuse those who love the Holy Sabbath, if by so doing they can injure the influence of those who fearlessly declare the truth.

Verne Bates was attacked in like manner by Vance Ferrell, who wrote a put-down article about Verne. He admitted never having met Verne at the time, but that did not stop him from repeating trash he heard from others.

But these things will not hinder the work of God. In fact, this course pursued by those who hate the truth, will be the very means of opening the eyes of some. Every jewel will be brought out and gathered, for the hand of the Lord is set to recover the remnant of his people, and he will accomplish the work gloriously.

I saw that we who believe the truth should be very careful and give no occasion for our good to be evil spoken of. We should know that every step we take is in accordance with the Bible; for those who hate the commandments of God will triumph over our missteps and faults, as the wicked did in 1843.

           The Holiness of God

May 14th, 1851, I saw the beauty and loveliness of Jesus. As I beheld his glory the thought did not occur to me that I should ever be separated from his presence. I saw a light coming from the glory that encircled the Father, and as it approached near to me, my body trembled and shook like a leaf. I thought if it should come near to me I should be struck out of existence; but the light past me. Then could I have some sense of the great and terrible God that we have to do with. Then I saw what faint views some have of the holiness of God, and how much they take his holy and reverend name in vain, without realizing that it was God, the great and terrible God, they were speaking of. I have seen that many, while praying, used careless and irreverent expressions which grieved the tender Spirit of the Lord and caused their petitions to be shut out of heaven.

I also saw that many did not realize what they must be in order to live in the sight of the Lord, without a High Priest in the Sanctuary, through the time of trouble. Those who receive the seal of the living God, and are protected in the time of trouble, must reflect the image of Jesus fully.

Many people, including myself, do not now, or did not in the past, understand that many of the saints waiting at the second watch, October 22, 1844, did reflect the image of Jesus fully. They were perfect and prepared for translation. I was shocked to discover this. Yet it is true. You can read about that in the 1858 Great Controversy, page 142.

Also, in the R&H May 6, 1862, included here on page #, declares the correct way perfection should be stated to avoid problems with some, yet state the truth of the matter.

I saw that many were neglecting the preparation so needful, and were looking to the time of the “refreshing” and “latter rain” to fit them to stand in the day of the Lord, and to live in his sight. O, how many I saw in the time of trouble without a shelter! They had neglected the needful preparation, therefore they could not receive the refreshing that all must have to fit them to live in the sight of a holy God. Those who refuse to be hewed by the prophets,

Though Ellen is a female, I, rather consistently, use the term “prophet” when referring to her. Perhaps not exactly correct, and certainly not politically correct, the point is the same. She was what she was, a prophet, speaking the voice of God to man, in God’s appointed way. But many are those who refuse to be hewed by God, in any respect.

and do not purify their souls in obeying the whole truth, and are willing to believe that their condition is far better than it really is,

Certainly an apt description of Laodicea. They have need of none of this Present Truth stuff.

will come up to the time of the falling of the plagues, and then see that they needed to be hewed and squared for the building. But there will be no time then to do it; and no Mediator to plead their cause before the Father. Before this time, the awfully solemn declaration has gone forth, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” I saw that none could share the “refreshing,” unless they obtain the victory over every besetment, all pride, selfishness, love of the world, and over every wrong word and action. We should, therefore, be drawing nearer and nearer to the Lord, and be earnestly seeking that preparation necessary to enable us to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord. Let all remember that God is holy, and none but holy beings can ever dwell in his presence.

Chapter 12 is next. One chapter per vision, generally, but not always. Part one of two.

The Present Truth, No. 9, p. 71, April 1850, (date published)

April 1, 1850 To the “Little Flock.”

Dear Brethren.–The Lord gave me a view, January 26, which I will relate. I saw that some of the people of God were stupid and dormant; and were but half awake, and did not realize the time we were now living in; and that the “man” with the “dirt-brush” had entered, and that some were in danger of being swept away.

You can find “Brother Miller’s Dream” about the man with the dirt-brush, in chronological order, in this work on page #.

I begged of Jesus to save them, to spare them a little longer, and let them see their awful danger, that they might get ready before it should be for ever too late. The angel said, “Destruction is coming like a mighty whirlwind.” I begged of the angel to pity and to save those who loved this world, and were attached to their possessions, and were not willing to cut loose from them, and sacrifice them to speed the messengers on their way to feed the hungry sheep, who were perishing for want of spiritual food.

The 1858 GC points out, on page 142, that those who were perfect and prepared for translation on October 22, 1844, had made an entire consecration, a complete sacrifice.

As I viewed poor souls dying for want of the present truth, and some who professed to believe the truth were letting them die, by withholding the necessary means to carry forward the work of God, the sight was too painful, and I begged of the angel to remove it from me. I saw that when the cause of God called for some of their property, like the young man who came to Jesus, [Matthew 19:16-22.] they went away sorrowful; and that soon the overflowing scourge would pass over and sweep their possessions all away, and then it would be too late to sacrifice earthly goods, and lay up a treasure in heaven.

Present Truth is now being revived. Various individuals have stood up in fulfillment of the saying in the 1858 Great Controversy, page 184, to give “the straight testimony” to the Laodiceans. But now, the Internet has arrived. No more can those in power prevent the spread of information. Light is available to all, virtually everywhere.

Bert Haloviak, evidently a researcher for the General Conference, wrote a paper titled, “In the Shadow of the ‘Daily’: Background and Aftermath of the 1919 Bible and History Teacher’s Conference,” available on the church’s web archive site, and noting an amazing point many have never heard of. On pages 24-25 he quotes Stephen Haskell as remembering a prediction by Ellen, that “there would be a time when the testimonies would be in demand ‘just as they were originally given in order to meet objections before we got through.’”
Today the demand is high, among those who want truth. You can help by supporting this work, wherever you see it being done.

I then saw the glorious Redeemer, beautiful and lovely, that he left the realms of glory, and came to this dark and lonely world, to give his precious life and die, the just for the unjust. He bore the cruel mocking and scourging, and wore the platted crown of thorns, and sweat great drops of blood in the garden; while the burden of the sins of the whole world were upon him. The angel asked, “What for?” O, I saw and knew that it was for us; for our sins he suffered all this, that by his precious blood he might redeem us unto God.
Then again was held up before me those who were not willing to dispose of this world’s goods to save perishing souls, by sending them the truth, while Jesus stands before the Father, pleading his blood, his sufferings and his death for them; and while God’s messengers were waiting, ready to carry them the saving truth that they might be sealed with the seal of the living God.

Printed matter is called “the silent messengers” and for many, it is all they have.

It was hard for some who professed to believe the present truth, to even do so little as to hand the messengers God’s own money, that he had lent them to be stewards over.
Then the suffering Jesus, his sacrifice and love so deep, as to give his life for them, was again held up before me; and then the lives of those who professed to be his followers, who had this world’s goods, and considered it so great a thing to help the cause of salvation. The angel said, “Can such enter heaven?” Another angel answered, “No, never, never, never. Those who are not interested in the cause of God on earth, can never sing the song of redeeming love above.”
I saw that the quick work that God was doing on earth would soon be cut short in righteousness, and that the swift messengers must speed on their way to search out the scattered flock. An angel said, “Are all messengers? No, no, God’s messengers have a message.”

Notice the perfect harmony here also, as the false shepherds are not mentioned as being subjects of the search. As I am sure you will remember, page # of this work, and the Present Truth, No. 8, p. 64, God explicitly instructs us not to try taking this message to the false shepherds.

I saw that the cause of God had been hindered, and dishonored by some travelling who had no message from God. Such will have to give an account to God for every dollar they have used in travelling where it was not their duty to go; for that money might have helped on the cause of God, and for the lack of it, souls have starved and died for the want of spiritual food, that might have been given them by God’s called and chosen messengers if they had had the means.

Ever gone to a meeting where someone stood up to talk and he had no message? All such will have a fearful account to pay.

           The mighty shaking has commenced,

This is the first announcement by God that the shaking has started. Once this is accepted, many other passages will be seen in their true light. A good example of this can be found in No. 9, p. 1, “Everything is to be shaken that can be shaken.”

Now all the church trials through which you have had to pass make sense. You are being prepared for Heaven. Your character is being perfected.

This also is in total disagreement with the way most understand this faith. There are a huge number of charts extant today, all showing the shaking as being yet future. They are all in darkness, the blind leading the blind. This is the effect of reading and studying the counterfeit as if it were from God, and this, in spite of the fact, that these words appear in six different publications of the counterfeit. “God does nothing in partnership with Satan.” No. 27, p. 129.
