Category: Save Yourself

Sabbath October 5, 2013

It is a fearful deception to think that somehow, someway, because there are now and have been past, so many good Seventh-Day Adventists throughout the known world, there must be more than 144,000, of those exposed to this faith, who will be saved.

Currently, there are over 17 million SDAs in the world. If they were all truly converted the great controversy would have been over with long ago. Numbers will not do it. What the numbers really show is how this message has been dumbed down, changed, from what God gave to the world, to what unconverted man thinks it should be. Not counting Catholic influence.

Many claim that there are Jesuits in the church. That may be. The real point is that the members have not embraced the very thing that would keep sin and sinners out of the church— the living testimony, the voice of reproof and rebuke, the pointed testimony, it goes by a few names.

Everybody wants to look good, smell good, feel good, and have their feelings of importance stroked. This is not God’s appointed way. Here is his appointed way.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Revelation 3:19

I like the way Dale Carnegie states it in his famous book, How to Win Friends and Influence People. “There is only one way under high Heaven to get anybody to anything. Did you ever stop and think of that? Yes, just one way. And that is by making the other person want to do it. Remember, there is no other way.”

He goes on to quote William James, “‘The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.” He didn’t speak, mind you, of the ‘wish’ or the ‘desire’ or the ‘longing’ to be appreciated. He said the ‘craving’ to be appreciated.” Dale then goes on to educate people in the arts of the ways of the world. But these are not God’s ways.

It is because the church has adopted the ways of the world that it has so many members. It is stroking this “craving” to be appreciated, using social proof, “Well, there are so many, it must be right, if I am a part of it I can be right too.” Best you take a good hard look at the past. Only eight got in the ark, only one Abraham was chosen, only one Elijah stood against apostasy, only three were thrown in the fiery furnace, only, only, only! “And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of” them all! Only a few.

Time to review some evidence.

They [the Advent people] fell all the way along the path one after another, until we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. The Day-Star.

And now the second voice of evidence.

But there was one clear place of settled glory, from whence came the voice of God, like many waters, which shook the heavens and the earth. There was a mighty earthquake. The graves were shaken open, and those who had died in faith under the third angel’s message, keeping the Sabbath, came forth from their dusty beds, glorified, to hear the covenant of peace that God was to make with those who had kept his law. And as God spake the day and hour of Jesus’ coming, and delivered the everlasting covenant to his people,…. 1858 Great Controversy, p. 205.

From these two pieces of evidence all should be able to see that “the voice of God like many waters” calls from the grave a certain very well defined and explicitly stated group of people, for the explicit purpose of giving them “the day and hour of Jesus coming.” Then we go back to The Day-Star for a final piece of evidence.

The living saints, 144,000 in number, know and understand the voice….

Notice, that it is only after that resurrection by the voice of the Father that the saints are called “the living saints.” Of course they are living! they just got resurrected! Some of them, we know not how many, have physically gone through the time of trouble such as never was, the time of Jacob’s trouble.

We are rapidly closing in on the 169th anniversary of October 22, 1844 and because so few are walking in the light of the Midnight Cry, they reason within themselves, “There must be more than 144,000, there must be… it must be a figurative number, yes, that’s it! Those words must mean a figurative number!” And so the first lie of Satan spreads like wildfire! “Ye shall not surely die!” And this, in the face of very explicit words.

All this means that the 144,000 count started with the Sabbath message, which started with the third angel’s message, which started October 23, 1844 with the vision God gave to Hiram Edson, which proved that Christ, our high priest, went into the Most Holy place and the great antitypical Day of Atonement began. When that count is done, when the last saint is numbered and sealed, here is what happens next.

I saw angels hurrying to and fro in heaven. An angel returned from the earth with a writer’s inkhorn by his side, and reported to Jesus that his work was done, that the saints were numbered and sealed. THEN I saw Jesus, who had been ministering before the ark containing the ten commandments, throw down the censer. He raised his hands upward, and with a loud voice said, It is done. And all the angelic host laid off their crowns as Jesus made the solemn declaration, He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still. p. 197, Para. 2, [1SG ].

There is only one numbered group of saints. The number is very explicit, “144,000 in number.” It’s taken, to date, 169 years so far, and the count is not over. This means that even fewer than 144,000 of those who have been exposed to the truth before today will be saved. All are responsible for the light they had access to. Many, many will die. You have the opportunity to become immortal. God so loved you that he gave his only Son, to die, to pay the price so that you could live, but it can only be in God’s appointed way.

So God sends his people a prophet… name of Ellen, and it’s cool for awhile, but then it starts to get irritating. Here is what I think is happening.

God sends his people a prophet… name of Isaiah, and it’s cool for awhile, but then it starts to get irritating.

And he teaches that Moses was a righteous man. And that Moses was a prophet too, and that if God’s people had just followed Moses’ writings that he, Isaiah, would not have been needed.

So some of God’s people said, “Well then, we are just going to follow the teachings of Moses and we don’t need you!” So they put him in a hollow log and sawed it in two, by hand, which takes a long time, especially when the intestines get tangled up in the teeth of the saw and some of the bones are harder than the wood.

And Ellen teaches that Isaiah was a righteous man. And that Isaiah was a prophet too, and that if God’s people had just followed Isaiah’s writings that she, Ellen, would not have been needed. You can read about that in No. 20, pages 42-49.

So some of God’s people said, “Well, we are just going to follow the teachings of Isaiah and we don’t need you!” These are “the bible only” people. In essence, they are denying that the Spirit of Prophecy is from God. If Ellen were the author then anyone could ignore it without consequence. After all, she was not well educated, was no mental giant, and, most importantly, was not God.

I have a couple of books by Ralph Waldo Emerson containing most of his essays. I’m not sure; just checked, they have no date of publication. I would guess, probably about the 1940s for the publication of this set. In some circles Ralph’s works are much esteemed.

Just to draw the comparison, looking at the difference between Ralph’s essays and the SOP in the SDA church, I would have to say they are both esteemed about the same by all. That is to say, many may have heard the name, but, so what? Some like one and some the other, yet they are both treated about the same; human writings.

As with everything else, there are some who are the fans. I used to be a fan of Emerson. Studied his writings more than the Bible, certainly more than the SOP. However, it’s been years since I even looked at Emerson’s books. Everything, and especially everything dealing with such philosophy, is from the world, contains the world’s ideas, shapes the world’s thoughts, and generally prepares the mind to reject God and his plan. Think of it as being Greekie, 1 Corinthians 1:23.

Most people in the SDA church treat the SOP exactly that way. Mostly it’s because the world has got them. Secondly, it’s the counterfeit, so God is not drawing them like he does with the authentic. There is no charm for them for the truth, because the Holy Ghost is not instructing them through those works.

God does nothing in partnership with Satan. p. 129, Para. 1,[27OT].

For a few, they believe and read, but Satan has his own charm to comfort them with as they read the counterfeit. As a result they do not see such things as page 568 in the Desire of Ages, tenth line up from the bottom, where it is declared that Christ is in the holy place, not the most holy. They just can not see it.

But they sure don’t want the original writings! “Beats all I have ever seen” is the saying that comes to mind. And the question is, “Why would you not want all the Spirit of Prophecy you could get your hands on?” Oh well, you have to just shake your head and move on. Keep looking for the “poor, hungry, scattered sheep.” The Present Truth, No. 8, page 70. (or page 64, old edition)

From what I now know, Christ could come this year. Best you get ready. Get right with God. Make sure all your sins are confessed or they will not be blotted out of the book and you will be, finally, outside the City. Now is the time to prepare. We are not told when Christ is coming because of the human tendency to put-it-off. Get ready now! Delay is not okay!

That man might not lose the blessed results of benevolence, our Redeemer formed the plan of enlisting him as his co-worker.

Being a co-worker is not the same as a co-redeemer, as some claim against those who promote the Bible position of faith and works.

By a chain of circumstances which would call forth his charities, he brings man under the best means of cultivating benevolence, and keeps him habitually giving to help the poor, and to advance his cause. He sends his poor as the representatives of himself. A ruined world is drawing forth from us by their necessities talents of means and of influence to present to them the truth [the Word], of which they are in perishing need.

A pure chain of texts shows exactly what it means “to present to them the truth.”

1.) Psalms 119:105 where God defines his word as a lamp and a light. The other words tell what they are used for.

2.) In Genesis 5:17 God adds the word burning to lamp, thus we have God’s word as both a burning and a lamp.

3.) Back to Psalms 119:135, here God defines to shine means to teach.

4.) John 17:17 is the definition of truth. God says it is his word.

5.) John 5:35 is where Christ was discussing John the Baptist. Christ identified John as a burning and a shining light.

We know that John the Baptist was a representative of the 144,000, the saints who are living in the end of Matthew 24:14.

John was a representative of the people of God in the last days, to whom God has committed important and solemn truths. Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 2, page 44.

Now we can say, in order “to present to them the truth” God people must be like John the Baptist who, Christ says, was God’s word teaching God’s word. That is the spiritual definition of “a burning and a shining light” as taught by God.

And as we heed these calls, by labor and acts of benevolence, [faith and works] we are assimilated into the image of him [the Word] who for our sakes became poor. In bestowing, we bless others, and thus accumulate the true riches. p. 74, Para. 1, [24OT].

The moral darkness of a ruined world pleads to Christian men and women to put forth individual effort, to give of their means, and of their influence, that they may be assimilated into the image of Him [the Word] who, though he possessed infinite riches, yet for our sakes became poor. The Spirit of God cannot abide with those to whom he has sent the message of his truth [the Word], who need to be urged before they can have any sense of their duty to be co-workers with Christ. The apostle enforces the duty of giving from higher grounds than merely human sympathy, because the feelings are moved. He enforces the principle that we should labor unselfishly with an eye single to the glory of God. p. 88, Para. 2, [24OT].

Perfecting your character is a work every bit of which is glorifying God. It is a work of faith and works together, and a cleaning of ourselves by taking a shower, as it were, in the living water of the Word. Following the example of Christ in all things.

Now comes clear the imagery of Paul as he identifies this very process.

That he might sanctify and cleanse it [the church] with the washing of water by the word, Ephesians 5:26

How amazing!!! So much comes clear as we correctly understand the Word and God’s definitions for that Word.

Notice the language employed to make the point. We can easily apply the spiritual meaning of these words to get a more in-depth picture of the problem.

I was shown in the case of sister Hannah More that the neglect of her was the neglect of Jesus [the Word] in her person. Had the Son of God [the Word] come in the humble, unpretending manner in which he journeyed from place to place when he was upon earth, he would have met with no better reception. It is the deep principle of love that dwelt in the bosom of the humble man of Calvary, that is needed. Had the church lived in the light [the Word], they would have appreciated this humble missionary whose whole being was aglow to be engaged in her Master’s service. Her very earnest interest was misconstrued. Her externals were not just such as would meet the approval of the eye of taste and fashion; for familiarity with strict economy and poverty had left its impress upon her apparel. But the hard-earned means had been exhausted as fast as earned to benefit others; to get light [the Word] to those whom she hoped to lead to the cross [the Word] of truth. Even the professed church of Christ [the Word], with their exalted privileges and high professions, discerned not the image of Christ [the Word], in this self-denying child of God [the Word], because they were so far removed from Christ [the Word] themselves that they reflected not his image [the Word].

Evidently Hannah More had the Word in her, hence, she reflected Christ’s image. Others who professed to be Christians were not studying their Bible, were not growing from strength to strength and for this reason could not discern God’s Word in Hannah. Insert 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 here as a reminder of the difference between the milk and meat is and how to tell.

The Testimony reads, “because they were so far removed from Christ.” This is no different than saying “they were so far removed from studying their Bible.”

They judged by the external appearance, and took not special pains to discern the inward adorning [the Word?]. Here was a woman whose resources of knowledge and genuine experience in the mysteries of godliness [the Word] exceeded those of any one residing at Battle Creek, and whose manner of address to youth and children was pleasing, instructive, and salutary. She was not harsh, but correct and sympathetic, and would have proved one of the most useful laborers in the field, to fill positions as an instructor of the youth, and an intelligent, useful companion and counselor to mother. She could reach hearts by her earnest, matter-of-fact presentation of incidents in her religious life which she had devoted to the service of her Redeemer [the Word]. Had the church emerged from darkness and deception into the clear light [the Word], their hearts would have been drawn out after the lonely stranger. Her prayers, her tears, her distress to see no way of usefulness open to her, have gone up to Heaven. God has heard. Talents and help the Lord offered to his people, but they were rich and increased with goods, and had need of nothing. They turned from, and rejected a most precious blessing of which they will yet feel the need. Had Elder —– stood in the clear light [the Word], of God, imbued with his Spirit [the Word], when this servant of Jesus [the Word], lonely, homeless, and thirsting for a work to do for her Master [the Word], was brought to his notice, spirit [the Word], would have answered to spirit [the Word], as face answereth to face in a mirror, and his heart would have been drawn out after this disciple of Christ, and he would have understood her. Thus also with the church. They had been in such spiritual blindness they had lost the sound of the voice of the true Shepherd [the Word], and were following the voice of a stranger, who was leading them from the fold of Christ [the Word]. p. 35, Para. 1, [16OT].

Interjecting the Word in brackets may not be exactly correct in each instance, but, it definitely makes a strong point about our relationship with that Word. Very strong.

I got to looking at Nehemiah 10:28 because it had words in it that I was searching. Then I got to reading the story before that and made some interesting discoveries. You will remember that both Ezra and Nehemiah led out in the reform work. Much was accomplished as we shall see. Keep in mind the words we are studying using God’s definitions.

And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them. Nehemiah 9:15

From this verse we can quickly see that the bread from Heaven is manna, but spiritually it is Christ. He said so in John 6:48. The water for their thirst had to be living, because it too came from Christ. The earliest reference to this is Deuteronomy 32:4 “ He is the Rock,” and is the first time the word is capitalized.

Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst. Nehemiah 9:20

In repeating the story about the bread and water, this verse adds just who it was that did the instruction. It was the Holy Spirit.

Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations. Nehemiah 9:26

It is a fearful thing to be slaying God’s prophets! And rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, 1 Samuel15:23.

But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and many times didst thou deliver them according to thy mercies; Nehemiah 9:28

The word rest really caught my attention here! The Day-Star comes to mind, and the Advent people traveling the strait and narrow path to the City. God tells us this about those who have “had rest” and then rejected it.

On this path the Advent people were traveling to the City, which was at the farther end of the path. They had a bright light set up behind them at the first end of the path, which an angel told me was the Midnight Cry. This light shone all along the path and gave light for their feet so they might not stumble. And if they kept their eyes fixed on Jesus, who was just before them, leading them to the City, they were safe. But soon some grew weary, and said the City was a great way off, and they expected to have entered it before. Then Jesus would encourage them by raising his glorious right arm, and from his arm came a glorious light which waved over the Advent band, and they shouted, Hallelujah! Others rashly denied the light behind them, and said that it was not God that had led them out so far. The light behind them went out which left their feet in perfect darkness, and they stumbled and got their eyes off the mark and lost sight of Jesus, and fell off the path down in the dark and wicked world below. It was just as impossible for them to get on the path again & go to the City, as all the wicked world which God had rejected. They fell all the way along the path one after another, until we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus’ coming.

There are those who are on the path and have entered that rest of Isaiah 28:12, being instructed by the Holy Spirit and spiritually discerning and learning the deeper things of God, but then turning away and going back to trusting the lies of Satan. For such, there is no hope, for they have crucified the Son of God afresh, Hebrews 6:4-6.

Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands. Nehemiah 9:30

A good match for today, God’s people gone astray. He sent Ellen, on the surface accepted, in reality rejected. Isaiah 28:12 again, “yet they would not hear.”

And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding; Nehemiah 10:28

Reformation among God’s people! A wonderful, beautiful thing! Notice the last line, “everyone having knowledge, and having understanding.” They had entered that rest of Isaiah 28:12, that is what this verse is saying. This is the place God’s people need to be, eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Christ, who is “all in all.”

The more I get into this study of Psalms 119:105 and the spiritual understanding of those words, the more astonished I am at the other things to be found in the authentic Spirit of Prophecy and other Bible texts. It’s an opening of the vail of the deeper things of God. An entering into the mystery of the kingdom of God.

Just look at this passage from No. 20, page 173-174.

We are only accountable for the light that shines upon us. The commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus are testing us. If faithful and obedient, God will delight in us and bless us as his own, chosen, peculiar people. When perfect faith, and perfect love and obedience, abound, working in the hearts of those who are Christ’s followers, they will have a powerful influence. Light [God’s word] will emanate from them, dispelling the darkness around them, refining and elevating all within the sphere of their influence, and bringing to a knowledge of the truth all who are willing to be enlightened, and follow in the humble path of obedience. p. 173, Para. 2, [20OT].

This reads like a description of John the Baptist! And why not? is not this Spirit of Prophecy for the 144,000? of which John the Baptist was a representative.

Those who possess the carnal mind cannot comprehend the sacred force of vital truth upon which their salvation depends

Remember 1 Corinthians 3:1-3?

because they will cherish pride of heart, love of the world, love of ease, selfishness, covetousness, envy, jealousy, lust, hatred, and every evil. If they would overcome these, they might be partakers of the divine nature. Many leave the plain truths of God’s word, and neglect to follow the light that shines clearly upon their pathway; but are prying into secrets not plainly revealed, and are conjecturing, and talking, and disputing, in regard to questions they are not required to understand, for they have no special reference to their salvation. Thousands have been beguiled in this way by Satan. They have neglected present faith and present duty which were clear and comprehensive to all who have their reasoning powers; and they have dwelt upon doubtful theories, and scriptures which they could not comprehend, and have erred concerning the faith. They have a mixed faith. p. 174, Para. 1, [20OT].

One of the items not plainly revealed is the vision where Ellen heard the angel say, “Some food for worms, some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth, to be translated at the coming of Jesus.” p. 18, Para. 1, [2OT]. I have not found a way to explain how some could be subjects of the seven last plagues. I just trust that God has an answer and at the right time he will reveal it.

God would have all make a practical use of the plain teachings of his word in regard to the salvation of man. If they are doers of the word which is plain and powerful in its simplicity, they will not fail to perfect Christian character. They will be sanctified through the truth, and through humble obedience to the truth, will secure everlasting life. God wants servants that are true, not only in word, but in deed. Their fruits will show the genuineness of their faith. p. 174, Para. 2, [20OT].

It’s there, for whosoever will ask, seek, and knock.

These texts are quite the instruction. Notice the flow of thoughts.
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence,
Add to your faith virtue;
And to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance;
And to temperance patience;
And to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness;
And to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:1-8
After Peter introduces himself, he gives the holy kiss, Supplement to the CEV, p. 38, then shows that these blessings come “through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.”
Peter goes on to state explicitly that it is his divine power that “hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness” again “through the knowledge of him.” In 1 Corinthians 1:18, 24 & 2:5 this other tongue is called the power of God.
This knowledge of Christ is his word, John 1:1-5, and those words that Christ speaks to us “they are spirit, and they are life.” Christ speaks to us when we read the physical words in the Bible. Peter then points out “whereby” meaning that these things are the path, and it is this path that gives to “us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Next follows what is called the plan of addition. It is what happens when you are obedient to the light that teaches your footsteps to stay on the strait and narrow path. You grow. And because of this growth, you “shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Which is this other tongue, the spiritual understanding of the words of God used to teach us other words he uses. Isaiah 28:12 “and this is the rest… and this is the refreshing.”

These Bible words make a nice lesson. Watch the parallel phrases and words, then the definitions.

To know wisdom and instruction;
To perceive the words of understanding;

To know is to perceive. Wisdom and instruction are words of understanding.

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
To give subtilty to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion.

To receive instruction is giving subtilty and knowledge and discretion.

A wise man will hear,
and will increase learning; and

Hearing is to increase learning and attaining.

A man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

A wise man is a man of understanding and understanding is wise counsels.

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation;
the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. Proverbs 1:2-6

A proverb is the words of the wise and the interpretation is a dark saying.

There is no true wisdom apart from God and all wisdom is in fact Christ, the Word, in you, the hope of glory; the same Word was in the beginning, “and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:1-5

So God sent John the Baptist before Jesus Christ to prepare the way; “John was a representative of the people of God in the last days, to whom God has committed important and solemn truths,” Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 2, page 44. Of him Christ said, he was God’s word teaching God’s word, John 5:35.

This means… that if you accept this method of hearing and increasing your learning, you will come to know wisdom, instruction and perceive words of understanding, you will receive instruction from God, gain subtilty, knowledge, discretion, the understanding of proverbs, parables, the words of the wise men of God and their dark sayings and be obedient to this instruction.

You will become a part of that group of the people of God in the last days of whom John the Baptist was a representative. Think very carefully of how John lived… and died.

The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

Why did he have to say that the words are spirit? How can the words be the Holy Spirit?

but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Hebrews 4:2

Here is a part of God’s filtering process. Many people hear the words of God preached, but if the hearing is not mixed with faith then, for them, God’s words have no effect. They are not transformed. They do not get the spirit, they do not get the life. Which brings us to this example.

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 1 Corinthians 2:1-8

Here is a group of people, the Jewish leadership, that heard the words of spirit and life from the very lips of Jesus the messiah himself, yet, because they had no faith those words could not profit them! So they crucified the very messiah they were looking for.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

Apparently there is a way that we are made, created by God, wherein God knows that this one or that one has a mind to follow Christ all the way in faith, therefore God gives them faith in the hearing of his words. For the rest, the words of God the wisdom of God is spoken in a mystery to them, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the world unto our glory, but to them it is foolishness and they turn from it back to the wisdom of man, as a pig to the slop.

This is perhaps easiest to spot in those who do not stay after the meeting to get in on the mystery. Mark 4 tells of such, for Christ told the parable of the sower and then everybody went home… except a few, they stayed to talk with Christ. He told them that because they had asked, they would get… the mystery of the kingdom of God.

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1 Corinthians 2:13

One of the ways the Holy Ghost teaches is by comparing God’s words with God’s words. After all, his words are spirit—ual, aren’t they? Yes they are. And they are life.

Holding forth the word of life; Philippians 2:16

Paul knew. In fact, this is how we are born again, if we have faith in the word.

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Peter 1:23

Not in the wisdom of man, which this world has, but in God’s wisdom. 1 Corinthians 1:17 – 3:3.

But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. 1 Peter 1:25

All too often I would just read over things and not take the time necessary to think about what is being said. We’ll put Isaiah 28:11-12 here again for convenience.

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. Isaiah 28:11-12

What is God speaking? Words. What are words? Physically words are just ink on paper or sounds we hear, spiritually, words of God are Christ. “Christ in you the hope of glory.” “Let the word of Christ dwell in you” Yet God calls this rest and refreshing, “stammering lips and another tongue.”

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:9-11

Is Christ physically in you? No. Is Christ the words? Spiritually, yes, physically, no.

The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

When God’s words come to us, it is Christ knocking at the door of Laodicea seeking entrance.

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding Psalms 119:130

Opening our door and allowing Christ in, in the form of spiritual words, nay, not just allowing, but embracing truth, opening our hearts to truth, embracing the Words of God (John 1:1-5), is the embracing of Christ.

We don’t fully understand all this, neither do you understand the electricity you use every day. I know this because some of the brightest minds in the science world don’t understand exactly what it is that is coming out of the wires and making your motor work. But we use it.

We need to stop trying to analyze every little thing God says and become believers. Prove, yes, question God’s words, no. What if God tells you to walk on water? Are you going to give him the latest science report? What if he tells you to go to Egypt and tell the king to let his people go, are you going to tell him you can’t talk? And what if he tells you to go to Damascus and instruct Saul, are you going to tell him that little bit of gossip that you heard about the man?

Notice now these next passages and the message that is there in plain sight. Read carefully the words and think about it in terms of Isaiah 28:12.

We are to have Christ in our hearts as a well of water, springing up into everlasting life, refreshing all who come in contact with us. p. 49, Para. 1, [30OT].

If Christ be in you, the hope of glory, then by his power you have words to share, which are spirit, and life, and Christ.

I was shown that if God’s people, without making efforts on their part, wait for the refreshing to come upon them

We must labour to enter that rest, strive to enter that strait and narrow way. Hebrews 4:11, Luke 13:24.

and remove their wrongs and correct their errors, and depend upon that to cleanse them from filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and fit them to engage in the loud cry of the third angel, they will be found wanting. The refreshing or power of God, comes only on those who have prepared themselves for it by doing the work which God bids them, namely, to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Works is getting the words spiritually understood, faith is embracing the work of perfection, being obedient to God’s words and preparing ourselves for the grave or for translation to Heaven. Notice how the terms are interchanged.

In some respects, I was shown, my husband’s case is similar to those waiting for the refreshing. If he should wait for the power of God to come upon his body and to feel that he was made whole before he made efforts, or acted in accordance with his faith, saying, When the Lord heals me I will believe and do this or that, he might continue to wait, and would realize no change; for the fulfillment of God’s promise is only realized by those who believe and work in accordance with their faith. I saw that he must believe God’s word, that his promises are for him to claim, and they will never, no never, fail. He should walk out by faith, relying upon the evidences that God has been pleased to give, and act toward the point of being a well man as much as possible. Said the angel, “God will sustain him. His faith must be made perfect by works; for faith alone is dead. It must be sustained by works. A living faith is always manifested by works.” p. 67, Para. 1, [13OT].

But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it. Deuteronomy 30:14

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass [grass is people]: Because I will publish the name of the LORD: Deuteronomy 32:1-3
