These Bible words make a nice lesson. Watch the parallel phrases and words, then the definitions.

To know wisdom and instruction;
To perceive the words of understanding;

To know is to perceive. Wisdom and instruction are words of understanding.

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
To give subtilty to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion.

To receive instruction is giving subtilty and knowledge and discretion.

A wise man will hear,
and will increase learning; and

Hearing is to increase learning and attaining.

A man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

A wise man is a man of understanding and understanding is wise counsels.

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation;
the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. Proverbs 1:2-6

A proverb is the words of the wise and the interpretation is a dark saying.

There is no true wisdom apart from God and all wisdom is in fact Christ, the Word, in you, the hope of glory; the same Word was in the beginning, “and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:1-5

So God sent John the Baptist before Jesus Christ to prepare the way; “John was a representative of the people of God in the last days, to whom God has committed important and solemn truths,” Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 2, page 44. Of him Christ said, he was God’s word teaching God’s word, John 5:35.

This means… that if you accept this method of hearing and increasing your learning, you will come to know wisdom, instruction and perceive words of understanding, you will receive instruction from God, gain subtilty, knowledge, discretion, the understanding of proverbs, parables, the words of the wise men of God and their dark sayings and be obedient to this instruction.

You will become a part of that group of the people of God in the last days of whom John the Baptist was a representative. Think very carefully of how John lived… and died.

We have a passage today from Testimony No.30. This portion touches on several points, but in particular we should focus on the part about controlling our own mind. This is a highly important subject. Without us controlling our own minds, the question can properly be asked, “Who is in charge?”

God has not left his people in the dark about this important topic. There are very specific warnings and important counsels. To ignore such information from God is to reject the very idea of going to Heaven, for none will get there, from here, by refusing God’s advice.

We are in danger of regarding Christ’s ministers simply as men, not recognizing them as representatives of himself. [we will note here that only those preaching the pure Advent message qualify] All personal considerations should be laid aside; we must listen for the word of God through his ambassadors. Christ is ever sending messages to those who listen for his voice. On the night of our Saviour’s agony in the garden of Gethsemane, the sleeping disciples heard not the voice of Jesus; they had a dim sense of the angel’s presence, but lost the power and glory of the scene by drowsiness and stupor, and thus failed to receive the evidence which would have strengthened their souls for the terrible scenes before them. Thus the very men who most need divine instruction often fail to receive it, because they do not place themselves in communication with Heaven. Satan is ever seeking to impress and control the mind, and none of us are safe, except as we have a constant connection with God. We must momentarily receive supplies from Heaven; and if we would be kept by the power of God, we must be obedient to all his requirements. p. 30, Para. 2, [30OT].

The condition of your bearing fruit is that you abide in the Living Vine. “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.” p. 31, Para. 1, [30OT].

All your good purposes and good intentions will not enable you to withstand the test of temptation. You must be men of prayer. Your petitions must be, not faint, occasional, and fitful, but earnest, persevering, and constant. It is not necessary to be alone, or to bow upon your knees, to pray; but in the midst of your labor, your souls may be often uplifted to God, taking hold upon his strength; then you will be men of high and holy purpose, of noble integrity,– who will not for any consideration be swerved from truth, right, and justice. p. 31, Para. 2, [30OT].

There is so much good advice in the Testimonies that it is ridiculous for anyone to profess to be a believer and yet think he does not need these counsels.

So, just to remind you….

The insinuations of Satan took effect until they [the angels in Heaven] really believed that the Father and the Son were their enemies, and Satan, the benefactor. Satan has the same power and the same control over minds now, only increased by exercise and experience a hundred-fold. Men and women are today deceived, blinded by his insinuations and devices, and know it not. They are, in giving place to doubts and unbelief in regard to the work of God, and cherishing feelings of distrust and cruel jealousies, preparing themselves for complete deception. They rise up with bitter feelings against the ones who have dared to speak of their errors and reprove their sins. p. 103, Para. 1, [23OT].

As we near the close of time, the human mind is more readily affected by Satan’s devices. R&H, February 18, 1862 also in No. 7, page 83, center of the page.

He who dared to face, and tempt, and taunt, our Lord, and who had power to take him in his arms and carry him to a pinnacle of the temple, and up into an exceeding high mountain, will exercise his power to a wonderful degree upon the present generation, who are far inferior in wisdom to their Lord, and who are almost wholly ignorant of his subtlety and strength. p. 100, Para. 2, [8OT].

I like the story of Enoch, always have. It has a fascinating connection with Heaven. Here is what the Bible says.

And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. Genesis 5:22-24

You can’t walk with God unless you are in agreement with him.

Can two walk together, except they be agreed? Amos 3:3

And the Bible is full of this. Here are just a few texts.

I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. Genesis 17:1

If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul 1 Kings 2:4

walk as children of light: Ephesians 5:2, 8

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, 1 John 1:7

Not being in agreement with God is called carnal. And it says that we are not walking with God.

are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 1 Corinthians 3:3

This is also about perfection.

“Those who have experienced the cleansing efficacy of the blood of Christ upon their hearts will be like their Master, pure, peaceable, and lowly of heart. No matter how bold and earnest one may be in his claims of spiritual soundness, and perfection of character, if he lacks Christian grace and humility, the dregs of the disease of sin is in his nature, and, unless it is purged from him, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. The truly holy, who walk with God like Enoch of old, will not be boastful of their purity, but be courteous, humble, unselfish, free from spiritual pride and exaltation. Those who know most of God, and keep their eye fixed on the Author and Finisher of their faith will see nothing good or great in themselves. They will feel, after doing all in their power to be faithful, that they are yet unprofitable servants. p. 211, Para. 3, [LS80].

Enoch is also a symbol of God’s people in the time of the end.

Enoch, separating himself from the world, and spending much of his time in prayer and in communion with God, represents God’s loyal people in the last days who will be separate from the world. p. 64, Para. 3, [1SP].

God’s people will separate themselves from the unrighteous practices of those around them, and will seek for purity of thought, and holy conformity to his will, until his divine image will be reflected in them. Like Enoch they will be fitting for translation to Heaven. p. 65, Para. 1, [1SP].

All this is in a perfect and beautiful harmony with what the 1858 Great Controversy has to say on this subject.

God’s people were then accepted with him. Jesus looked upon them with pleasure. His image was reflected in them. They had made a full sacrifice, an entire consecration, and expected to be changed to immortality. p. 141, 1858 Great Controversy

Yes, it was the time of the great disappointment, but it was also a time when God’s people were perfect, ready for the physical change from mortal to immortal, or, for the grave. I have watched many go to the grave. I can not count any that I knew who were preparing for translation. All had a false hope that God was going to wave a magic wand over them and change them into perfect Christians.

No, we must “cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” 2 Corinthians 7:1. That’s God’s appointed way to get ready for Heaven.

In the late ‘70s or early ‘80s a big storm system hit the west coast of the US. All along the coast was massive flooding from all the heavy rains. This action carried large numbers of trees and stumps out to the ocean, which in turn used these items as battering rams with every wave as it crashed against whatever was on the coast. The effect was devastating.

Some time after this I went for a walk on a portion of the ocean beach. It was a beautiful day, light breeze, clear skies, clean sand, the waves lapping at your feet as you walk.

It was very warm that day, but I enjoyed the shade of a house… that was about thirty feet in the air over my head! Clearly the owner had wanted a home on the beach and it was built on the sand, but correctly so, so that it was actually supported on piers drilled down to bedrock. And then this storm came by and washed away the sand, totally transforming the beach from a high hill to flat with the ocean for miles, leaving that fine home… thirty feet in the air!

But this is no different than people building on a flood plain. The rains come and the waters rise and presto! muddy water in the home, all over the furniture, mud! And the people are amazed that their TV watching is interrupted! And why the .gov didn’t wave their magic wand and stop the waters!

As humans we do these things because we don’t stop and think, actually think about what we are doing. Most people would rather do anything except think. They hurry from one activity to another never pausing to ask themselves what it is they are trying to accomplish.

These habits affect our spiritual lives also. God, through Ellen, has for years been calling our attention to this deficit, this deficiency in our lives and to stop and take time to pray and meditate.

Sixty eight times this spiritual exercise is mentioned in the thirty original authentic testimonies. I like these.

Sr. —-, work less, and pray and meditate more. Eternal interests should be primary with you. p. 59, Para. 3, [17OT].

Meditation upon heavenly things is profitable, and will ever be accompanied with peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. p. 149, Para. 3, [17OT].

You look upon the objectionable features in the character of those you associate with, and dwell upon their seeming inconsistencies and wrongs, overlooking their redeeming traits. I was referred to this scripture, “Finally, brethren, Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be ANY virtue, and if there be any praise, think on THESE things.” Here, dear sister, you may meditate and speculate with profit. Dwell upon the good qualities of those with whom you associate, and see as little as possible of their errors and failings. p. 122, Para. 1, [18OT].

We are daily recipients of the bounties of Heaven, and should have loving gratitude springing up in our hearts to God, which should cause us to sympathize with our neighbors and make their interests our own. Thoughts and meditations upon the goodness of God to us would close the avenues of the soul to Satan’s suggestions. p. 118, Para. 3, [27OT].

It seems that God is constantly impressing Rahab’s story upon me. And it is an impressive one. Here we have an individual that has grown up to adulthood in a totally heathen environment, yet being taught of God and impressive to that teaching! So much so that God proved his great love for mankind in that he showed publicly his incredible desire, willingness and action (right? you got to have action or your words are just so much air!) in going to great lengths to secure her to himself.

Now this idea about God teaching her has got me captivated. Something was right in her heart. Something right, to the point that she was receptive to the faint light she had. Something caused her to think on that light and desire more of it.

We know that it is the Father that draws us to Christ.

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: John 6:44

Going back forty years, we remember that the children of Israel came up to the promised land, failed and had to go back into the wilderness to die, everyone from twenty years old and upward.

Now look inside Jericho. A major event just happened and tabs are kept on those Israelites out there lurking in the wilderness. And the stories are told and retold. Then Rahab show up. Whatever that “something” inside of her is, it is responding, absorbing, learning, being attracted by the Father.

Now it’s showtime. Now is revealed the work of God in the life of the prostitute that lives just down the street.

And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. Joshua 2:9-11

Amazing watching the hand of God!!! As they say, “The rest is history.” Rahab’s name shows up eleven times in the Bible. She must have been kinda young, she became the mother of Boaz, who was the father of Obed, who was the father of Jesse.

An impressive lineup, especially so since it was forbidden for any Jew to marry a prostitute….

God’s ways are not what I think they are. His ways are not what you think they are. It seems our only safety in following Christ is to ensure that we are doing his will. Which we will only know by earnest effort on our part.

It’s that ASK acronym.
Ask, and you will get an answer; remember Mark 4:10-11
Seek, and you will find.
Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
(I wonder what “it” is? I’ll have to check that out…)

I want to promote to you The Day-Star. This vision is the first one God gave to Ellen and this is the first publication of that vision. This vision is published in two sections. The reason for this is because Ellen did not understand that Brother Jacobs was going to publish it and she left out some things that were then added, making the second portion.

This vision has a great deal of very important information in it. It warrants close reading and meditation. It is an excellent subject for thought throughout the day and week as you work.

There are in the vision two references to the Apocrypha, 2 Esdras, chapter 2, verses 19 and 43. We consider this to be an endorsement of the Apocrypha by God. Work is on-going preparing an Apocrypha text for this site that you may access for free.

One suggestion in reading this material is to gather your little ones about you and give them to understand that even in this very first vision he gave to Ellen, he remembered them. It should be a good source of comfort to their hearts. Esdras speaks of how God will “fill thy children with joy” with the things he has prepared for them. This is a pure example of God’s love for us all.

The first section of The Day-Star is an excellent read about the whole of the final events. It is not all inclusive and must be put together with other parts of the authentic Spirit of Prophecy to get the full picture. But by it’s self, it is an excellent read that covers the events in a general way and moves very fast.

An example is that it does not mention spending 1,000 years in Heaven, sitting in judgment. We are given excellent views of the glories of Heaven and our homes in the earth made new.

The second portion is more for some close serious study. It covers the important move made by the Father and Christ in Heaven on October 22, 1844. There are some details there that should be understood by all.

There was one I know who was attempting to justify the sentence in the Desire of Ages, on page 568, ten lines up from the bottom, which specifically places Christ in the Holy place instead of the Most Holy. The comment was made that “only a curtain separates the two, so I’m good with that, he is standing right there.” The mistake here was two; first, in The Day-Star we are shown that the temple is so huge that both the Father and then the Son go into the Most Holy in a flaming chariot, so Christ is not “standing right there” as it were; and second, the work in the Holy is a ministration, and that ceased on October 22, 1844 and is no more.

Excellent material and highly recommended to strengthen your faith and grow the faith of the little ones. The link will download it for you.

Notice the opening sentence.

A view given me September 7th.
At Oswego, (N.Y.), the Lord shewed me that there must be a great work done for his people before they could stand

in the battle

in the day of the Lord.

What is “the battle in the day of the Lord?”

This has to be a part of what is happening in this patient, waiting, watching, time.

I used to think this time was void of anything really major happening. WRONG!

People are born every day and die every day, physically, literally. What about spiritually?

It’s been 168 years since October 22, 1844. It’s been more than 100 years since my life started.

People must become a true Christian AND perfect a character fit for Heaven AND be sealed during their lifetime, or they will be excluded from Heaven. This is so because there is no continuation of probation after your life ends.

There is no resurrection of partial Christians before the close of probation so they can finish perfecting their character. All that must happen during their lifetime.

I am required to confess all my sins to God so that they can be forgiven and blotted out before the close of probation. This is a requirement of the anti-typical Day of Atonement. Fail here and you will be leaving unconfessed sins on the books of Heaven. This = death.

I suggest you study Christ’s righteousness from the authentic Spirit of Prophecy and a KJV Bible. Eat good bread, not a moldy mess!!!

I was pointed to those who claim to be Adventists, but reject the present truth, and saw that they were crumbling, and that the hand of the Lord was in their midst to divide and scatter them now in the gathering time,

Even though this was published in 1851, it is every wit applicable to our day. Notice the words of God. “Those who claim to be Adventists.” Not only does the GCSDA church claim the title, they have taken legal possession of the name, trying to secure it to themselves.

“But reject present truth.” Remember The Day-Star? Remember that strait and narrow path? Remember the light of the Midnight Cry? which shines, the text says “shone,” which still means to teach, “all along the path.” This means all the way to the city.

Because the SDA church has rejected this teaching light, they are off the path. They are arguing over things that God made perfectly plain to the true pioneers of this faith. They will not be taught, they will not learn, in their pride of worldly wisdom they go to man to teach them about God! These teachers are Satan’s agents and they know it not.

So it is that they are crumbling and God is in their midst dividing and scattering; even now in the gathering time!!!

so that the precious jewels among them, that have formerly been deceived, may have their eyes opened to see their true state. And now when the truth is presented to them by the Lord’s messengers, they will be prepared to listen, and see its beauty and harmony, and leave their former associates, and errors, and embrace the precious truth, and stand where they can define their position. p. 57, [CEV].

Want a call out? It doesn’t get any better than this! Grab your KJV Bible, load up e-Sword, download for free a set of the authentic Spirit of Prophecy, get serious about your own future with your Creator and Maker, let the sun shine on you, walk in the light of the moon, bathe in rivers of butter and honey, listen not to the wave’s roar, have his rod and staff comfort you, receive peace, accept mercy, embrace grace, live in love, enjoy joy, be of those that receive him and take the power he offers to become… the sons of God.

The following passages have been taken from No. 29. They are arranged out of normal order, to suit my feelings at the moment. There are some large weight here. Time taken to meditate on the message will aid in fitting you for God’s work. Think about it.

Every man who is striving to overcome, will have his own weaknesses to contend with. But it is so much easier for persons to see the faults of their brethren than to see their own, that they should be much more diligent and critical with themselves than with others. p. 141, Para. 1, [29OT].

All the members of the church, if they are sons and daughters of God, will have to undergo a process of discipline before they can be lights in the world. God will not make men and women channels of light while they are in darkness and are content to remain so, making no special efforts to connect with the Source of light. Those who feel their own need, and arouse themselves to the deepest thought, and the most earnest, persevering prayer and action, will receive divine aid. There is much for each to unlearn with respect to himself, as well as much to learn. Old habits and customs must be shaken off; and it is only by earnest struggles to correct these errors, and a full reception of the truth in carrying out its principles, by the grace of God, that the victory can be gained. p. 141, Para. 2, [29OT].

I wish I could speak words which would impress us all that our only hope as individuals is to connect with God. Purity of soul must be obtained; and there is much heart-searching to be done, and much obstinacy and self-love to be overcome, which will require constant, earnest prayer. p. 141, Para. 3, [29OT].

The world is to be warned of its coming doom. The slumbers of those who are lying in sin and error are so deep, so death-like, that the voice of God through a wide-awake ministry is needed to awaken them. Unless the ministers are converted, the people will not be. The cold formalism that is now prevailing among us must give place to the living energy of experimental godliness. There is no fault with the theory of the truth; it is perfectly clear and harmonious. But young ministers may speak the truth fluently, and yet have no real sense of the words they utter. They do not appreciate the value of the truth they present, and little realize what it has cost those, who, with prayers and tears, through trial and opposition, sought for it as for hid treasures. Every new link in the chain of truth was to them as precious as tried gold. These links are now united in a perfect whole. Truths have been dug out of the rubbish of superstition and error, by earnest prayer for light and knowledge, and have been presented to the people as precious pearls of priceless value. p. 85, Para. 2, [29OT].

The gospel is a revelation to man of beams of light and hope from the eternal world. All the light does not burst upon us at once, but as we can bear it. Inquiring minds that hunger for the knowledge of God’s will are never satisfied; the deeper they search, the more they sense their ignorance, and deplore their blindness. It is beyond the power of man to conceive the high and noble attainments that are within his reach, if he will combine human effort with the grace of God, who is the Source of all wisdom and all power. And there is an eternal weight of glory beyond. “Eye hath not seen nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” p. 86, Para. 1, [29OT].

There are deep mysteries in the word of God, which will never be discovered by minds that are unaided by the Spirit of God. There are also unsearchable mysteries in the plan of redemption, which finite minds can never comprehend. Inexperienced youth might better tax their minds and exercise their ability to gain an understanding of matters that are revealed; for unless they possess more spiritual enlightenment than they now have, it would take a life-time to learn the revealed will of God. When they have cherished the light they already have, and made a practical use of it, they will be able to take a step forward. God’s providence is a continual school, in which he is ever leading men to see the true aims of life. None are too young, and none too old, to learn in this school, by paying diligent heed to the lessons taught by the divine Teacher. He is the true Shepherd, and he calls his sheep by name. By the wanderers his voice is heard, saying, “This is the way walk ye in it.” p. 83, Para. 1, [29OT].

A religious experience is attained only through conflict, through disappointment, through severe discipline of self, through earnest prayer. Living faith must grasp the promises unflinchingly, and then many may come from close communion with God with shining faces, saying, as did Jacob, “I have seen the Lord face to face, and my life is preserved.” p. 84, Para. 1, [29OT].

The steps upward to Heaven must be taken one at a time; every advance step strengthens us for the next. The transforming power of the grace of God upon the human heart is a work which but few comprehend, because they are too indolent to make the necessary effort. … Those who choose to gather doubts, and unbelief, and skepticism, will experience no growth in grace or spirituality, and are unfitted for the solemn responsibility of bearing the truth to others. p. 85, Para. 1, [29OT].

Sabbath October 20, 2012

Since the Bible defines the hidden treasure as “the refreshing,” I decided to look at how this might show in the Spirit of Prophecy.

There was a young sister in the house where we tarried who was subject to fits, and she was afflicted with this most distressing disease while we were there. All seemed to be alarmed. Some said, “Go for the doctor;” others, “Put on the teakettle for hot water.” I felt the spirit of prayer. We prayed to the Lord to deliver the afflicted. In the name and strength of Jesus I put my arms around her, and lifted her up from the bed, and rebuked the power of Satan, and bid her, “Go free.” She was instantly brought out of the fit, and praised the Lord with us. We had a solemn, refreshing season in this place. p. 71, Para. 3, [2SG].

That sudden cry, “If any man thirst–” startles them from their sorrowful meditation, and as they listen to the words that follow, their minds kindle with a new hope. They look upon the Lifegiver standing in majesty before them, divinity flashing through his humanity, and revealing his heavenly power in words that thrill their hearts. p. 346, Para. 2, [2SP].
The cry of Christ to the thirsty soul is still going forth. It appeals to us with even greater power than to those who heard it in the temple on that last day of the feast. The weary and exhausted ones are offered the refreshing draught of eternal life. Jesus invites them to rest in him. He will take their burdens. He will give them peace. Centuries before the advent of Christ, Isaiah described him as a “hiding place from the wind,” a “covert from the tempest,” as “the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.” All who come to Christ receive his love in their hearts, which is the water that springs up unto everlasting life. Those who receive it impart it in turn to others, in good works, in right examples, and in Christian counsel. p. 347, Para. 1, [2SP].

I was shown that if God’s people, without making efforts on their part, wait for the refreshing to come upon them and remove there wrongs and correct their errors, and depend upon that to cleanse them from filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and fit them to engage in the loud cry of the third angel, they will be found wanting. The refreshing or power of God, comes only on those who have prepared themselves for it by doing the work which God bids them, namely, to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. In some respects, I was shown, my husband’s case is similar to those waiting for the refreshing. If he should wait for the power of God to come upon his body and to feel that he was made whole before he made efforts, or acted in accordance with his faith, saying, When the Lord heals me I will believe and do this or that, he might continue to wait, and would realize no change; for the fulfillment of God’s promise is only realized by those who believe and work in accordance with their faith. I saw that he must believe God’s word, that his promises are for him to claim, and they will never, no never, fail. He should walk out by faith, relying upon the evidences that God has been pleased to give, and act toward the point of being a well man as much as possible. Said the angel, “God will sustain him. His faith must be made perfect by works; for faith alone is dead. It must be sustained by works. A living faith is always manifested by works.” p. 67, Para. 1, [13OT].

I was pointed down to the time when the third angel’s message was closing. The power of GOD had rested upon his people. They had accomplished their work, and were prepared for the trying hour before them. They had received the latter rain, or refreshing from the presence of the LORD, and the living testimony had been revived. The last great warning had sounded everywhere, and it had stirred up and enraged the inhabitants of earth, who would not receive the message. p. 197, Para. 1, [GC58].

I also saw that many did not realize what they must be in order to live in the sight of the Lord, without a High Priest in the Sanctuary, through the time of trouble. Those who receive the seal of the living God, and are protected in the time of trouble, must reflect the image of Jesus fully. p. 30, Para. 4, [CEV].
I saw that many were neglecting the preparation so needful, and were looking to the time of the “refreshing” and “latter rain” to fit them to stand in the day of the Lord, and to live in his sight. O, how many I saw in the time of trouble without a shelter! They had neglected the needful preparation, therefore they could not receive the refreshing that all must have to fit them to live in the sight of a holy God. Those who refuse to be hewed by the prophets, and do not purify their souls in obeying the whole truth, and are willing to believe that their condition is far better than it really is, will come up to the time of the falling of the plagues, and then see that they needed to be hewed and squared for the building. But there will be no time then to do it; and no Mediator to plead their cause before the Father. Before this time, the awfully solemn declaration has gone forth, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” I saw that none could share the “refreshing,” unless they obtain the victory over every besetment, all pride, selfishness, love of the world, and over every wrong word and action. We should, therefore, be drawing nearer and nearer to the Lord, and be earnestly seeking that preparation necessary to enable us to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord. Let all remember that God is holy, and none but holy beings can ever dwell in his presence. p. 31, Para. 1, [CEV].

I saw some, looking too far off for the coming of the Lord. Time has continued on a few years longer than they expected, therefore they think it may continue a few years more, and in this way their minds are being led from present truth, out after the world. In these things I saw great danger; for if the mind is filled with other things, present truth is shut out, and there is no place in our foreheads for the seal of the living God. I saw that the time for Jesus to be in the Most Holy Place was nearly finished, and that time cannot last but a very little longer; and what leisure time we have should be spent in searching the Bible, which is to judge us in the last day. p. 24, Para. 3, [CEV].

This is the hidden treasure.

This thing about feeling rich in spiritual discernment, is really big with Laodicea. I have talked with many people who tell me to my face, “It’s ok if I read the counterfeit, I can sort out the good from the bad.” What hubris these people have! It’s small wonder they say, “I have need of nothing.”

So it is that the counterfeit SOP is a test, of sorts. Because when the truth shows up, a decision must be made. I well remember the trauma I experienced when faced with that very decision. Suddenly the rug was pulled out from under my feet! So much of what I counted firm and solid was shown to be shifting sand. I was brought face to face with the fact that I had spent most of my life under a deception, a strong delusion! I chose truth.

Someone sent me a article, a collection of quotes really, and this one was in there.

“Enoch walked with God three hundred years previous to his translation to heaven, and the state of the world was not then more favorable for the perfection of Christian character than it is today. And how did Enoch walk with God? He educated his mind and heart to ever feel that he was in the presence of God, and when in perplexity his prayers would ascend to God to keep him.” Last Day Events, p. 71

This reads so nice. It is well put together, it flows. It’s a beautiful paragraph about Enoch’s life. What’s not to like? It’s so good, it has to be one of those things that Willie didn’t mess with because God had his hand over it, to protect it. Right?

Well, let’s test it. Let’s prove it. We’ll rummage around with the search function and see what we can find.

The father who is the house-band of the family, will bind his children to the throne of God by living faith. Distrusting his own strength, he hangs his helpless soul on Jesus, and takes hold of the strength of the Most High. Brethren, pray at home, in your family, night and morning; pray earnestly, in your closet; and while engaged in your daily — labor, lift up the soul to God in prayer. It was thus that Enoch walked with God. The silent, fervent prayer of the soul will rise like holy incense to a throne of grace, and will be as acceptable to God as if offered in the sanctuary. To all who thus seek him, Christ becomes a present help in time of need. They will be strong in the day of trial. p. 133, Para. 3, [30OT].

Upon comparison, there is only one answer. If you thought the former quote from the counterfeit was good, you, like Eve, have been listening to the serpent. Remember how she looked at that fruit and considered it to be good for food? But that was only after listening to Satan.

The authentic Spirit of Prophecy is the voice of God, not Ellen. “God is light and in him is no darkness at all.” God speaks the truth, Satan speaks a lie.

I think God wants to emphasize the point about prayer. He does so in this next passage.

It is impossible for the soul to flourish while prayer is not a special exercise of the mind. p. 93, Para. 2, [16OT].

It appears that the following passage could have been what the quote from LDE was taken from. It is similar. However, notice well the differences. One is from God, the other is from Satan. Choose wisely, your eternal life is at stake.

Enoch’s case is before us. Hundreds of years he walked with God. He lived in a corrupt age, when moral pollution was teeming all around him. He trained his mind to devotion, to love purity. His conversation was upon heavenly and divine things. He educated his mind to run in this channel, and he bore the impress of the divine. His countenance was lighted up with the light which shineth in the face of Jesus. Enoch had temptations as well as we. He was not surrounded with society any more friendly to righteousness than we. The atmosphere he breathed was tainted with sin and corruption, the same as ours; yet he lived a life of holiness. He was unsullied with the prevailing sins of the age in which he lived. And so may we remain as pure and uncorrupted as did the faithful Enoch. He was a representation of the saints living amid the perils and corruptions of the last days. For his faithful obedience to God, he was translated. So, also, those who are alive and remain, who are faithful, will be translated to Heaven. They will be removed from a sinful and corrupt world to the pure joys of Heaven. p. 13, Para. 1, [16OT].
