In spite of what you or I may feel at any time, we have a God who made us, who, with the tender care of a loving parent, watches over us ensuring our safety. He never sleeps. He lives forever. Our hope rests in the things he says.

Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:3-4

You want security?, right here it is. We can trust our God. Because he never changes we have true security. We found our hope in what he says because he never changes. Because of this we know that even if we die before he sends his Son the second time, we will live again!

It’s important to keep these things in mind as we go through our day. It’s a part of the armor we can use to keep Satan’s suggestions out of our minds. It keeps our faces shining with heaven’s light, the light of faith, hope, and trust in a living God!

Sabbath October 12, 2013

Today is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God.

Will you enter the fiery furnace?
Will you enter the Sabbath rest?
Jeremiah evidently was in that rest, as this verse testifies.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him,[the Word] nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. Jeremiah 20:9

What an amazing text! God teaches us gently, repeating, repeating his instruction and repeating the lesson using other words, laboring to surround us with clear understandings of his will.

We learn that the phrase “I will not make mention” is the same as “nor speak any more.”

Then we have “him,” which is “the word,” which is “his name.”

And back to our lesson of days past, “his word” is “a burning fire!”

That word being “in mine heart” is the same as “shut up in my bones.”

“Weary with forbearing” is the same as “could not stay.”

It’s small wonder then that James has this to say of the Advent people.

Our object is to revive these sweet testimonies, that were written in the pure, cheering and soul-stirring spirit that attended the Advent movement from it’s commencement, hoping that many will be led to see the “old paths” clearly, and once more stand on the “ORIGINAL FAITH.”

The Lord with a powerful hand, brought the Advent people out from the bondage and corruption of the nominal churches, and they were free; but alas! how many of those free, honest and precious souls have been allured back into what is called the “ADVENT CHURCH!!”

Once the Advent lecturers, as the held forth the word of life, being filled with the Holy Ghost, spake with power, and the happy hearer was often heard to respond, amen; and, at times, shouts of praise to God would ring through the assembly. But Oh! how changed! The pure testimony is crushed, and in many Advent congregations, if one should dare to shout and praise the Lord, and “GIVE GLORY TO HIM,” as we did during the flying angel’s message, Rev. xiv, 6,7, he would be silenced as a fanatic, as having mesmerism, or some wicked spirit, and told perhaps, that all the Spirit of God there is, is the Spirit of the Word, and that God does not teach us at all, separate from the Word.

O, that all the true children had stood fast in the liberty wherewith Christ set them free in 1843, and 1844, and not been entangled in the cruel yoke of bondage. The Advent Review, Vol.1, No.1, page 112 (16, old version).

Having been buried six feet deep in formalism for the first fifty years of life, it must have been something to have witnessed whereof James speaks.

And, just because we are not through with Selected Messages, book 3, we move into the subject of inspiration. As we examine today’s evidence there are certain things that must be understood. First we should remember Paul’s comments.

I speak not by commandment, 2 Corinthians 8:8
And herein I give my advice: 2 Corinthians 8:10

Many people understand this to mean that Paul was using his own words, his own thoughts; using other words, Paul was not inspired here, but, just giving his advise. But what does God say about this?

Every word of God is pure: Proverbs 30:5

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Luke 4:4

This means that even though Paul thought he was using his own words, it really was God speaking through him, he just was not aware of it at that time. Ellen was no different.

Testimony Expressed in Her Own Words.-Although I am as dependent upon the Spirit of the Lord in writing my views as I am in receiving them, yet the words I employ in describing what I have seen are my own, unless they be those spoken to me by an angel, which I always enclose in remarks of quotation. [GENERAL CONFERENCE SESSION ACTION ON INSPIRATION: “WE BELIEVE THE LIGHT GIVEN BY GOD TO HIS SERVANTS IS BY THE ENLIGHTENMENT OF THE MIND, THUS IMPARTING THE THOUGHTS, AND NOT (EXCEPT IN RARE CASES) THE VERY WORDS IN WHICH THE IDEAS SHOULD BE EXPRESSED.”–GENERAL CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS, REVIEW AND HERALD, NOV. 27, 1883.]–Review and Herald, Oct. 8, 1867. {3SM 49.7}

Then we have the most appropriate verse for understanding this.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21

Now the church has an official paper titled, “Methods of Bible Study.” In that paper they too quote this text from 2 Peter, BUT, they only quote the last half of the text and then presume to define for you, just what they have decided you should think about the word moved. Their definition is in the all-caps words in the above paragraph from 3SM 49.7.

But here is what they are really saying and why it is that they do not quote the first part of 2 Peter 1:21. In claiming that Ellen is “thought inspired” and then uses her own words, is to claim that she used her own will, but this the Bible forbids. 2 Peter 1:21 tells us that God is the author of what a prophet says, not the will of man. Notice this next passage.

I am just as dependent upon the Spirit of the Lord in relating or writing the vision as in having the vision. It is impossible for me to call up things which have been shown me unless the Lord brings them before me at the time that He is pleased to have me relate or write them.–Spiritual Gifts, vol. 2, pp. 292, 293. {3SM 48.4}

Here is the clincher.

The scribes of God wrote as they were dictated by the Holy Spirit, having no control of the work themselves.  p. 5, Para. 4, [26OT].

And Ellen was no different. She was God’s prophet for the saints in the time of the end.

And, let’s add one more item about the Holy Spirit.

God works through human instrumentalities; and whoever shall awaken the consciences of men, provoking them to goodworks and a real interest in the advancement of the cause of truth, does not do it of himself, but by the Spirit of God which worketh in him. p. 124, Para. 2, [29OT].

And poor, lowly you, thought you were doing something all on your own. We are the created. God is our Creator. But, somehow, some way, we forget that, at the very time we should be remembering it. And we start not believing some of the plainest things he says. Faith says to believe God, yet we listen to the whisperings of Satan’s agents.

We fear to believe that the Spirit of God is in us, working out his will in our lives.

Sabbath October 5, 2013

It is a fearful deception to think that somehow, someway, because there are now and have been past, so many good Seventh-Day Adventists throughout the known world, there must be more than 144,000, of those exposed to this faith, who will be saved.

Currently, there are over 17 million SDAs in the world. If they were all truly converted the great controversy would have been over with long ago. Numbers will not do it. What the numbers really show is how this message has been dumbed down, changed, from what God gave to the world, to what unconverted man thinks it should be. Not counting Catholic influence.

Many claim that there are Jesuits in the church. That may be. The real point is that the members have not embraced the very thing that would keep sin and sinners out of the church— the living testimony, the voice of reproof and rebuke, the pointed testimony, it goes by a few names.

Everybody wants to look good, smell good, feel good, and have their feelings of importance stroked. This is not God’s appointed way. Here is his appointed way.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Revelation 3:19

I like the way Dale Carnegie states it in his famous book, How to Win Friends and Influence People. “There is only one way under high Heaven to get anybody to anything. Did you ever stop and think of that? Yes, just one way. And that is by making the other person want to do it. Remember, there is no other way.”

He goes on to quote William James, “‘The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.” He didn’t speak, mind you, of the ‘wish’ or the ‘desire’ or the ‘longing’ to be appreciated. He said the ‘craving’ to be appreciated.” Dale then goes on to educate people in the arts of the ways of the world. But these are not God’s ways.

It is because the church has adopted the ways of the world that it has so many members. It is stroking this “craving” to be appreciated, using social proof, “Well, there are so many, it must be right, if I am a part of it I can be right too.” Best you take a good hard look at the past. Only eight got in the ark, only one Abraham was chosen, only one Elijah stood against apostasy, only three were thrown in the fiery furnace, only, only, only! “And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of” them all! Only a few.

Time to review some evidence.

They [the Advent people] fell all the way along the path one after another, until we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. The Day-Star.

And now the second voice of evidence.

But there was one clear place of settled glory, from whence came the voice of God, like many waters, which shook the heavens and the earth. There was a mighty earthquake. The graves were shaken open, and those who had died in faith under the third angel’s message, keeping the Sabbath, came forth from their dusty beds, glorified, to hear the covenant of peace that God was to make with those who had kept his law. And as God spake the day and hour of Jesus’ coming, and delivered the everlasting covenant to his people,…. 1858 Great Controversy, p. 205.

From these two pieces of evidence all should be able to see that “the voice of God like many waters” calls from the grave a certain very well defined and explicitly stated group of people, for the explicit purpose of giving them “the day and hour of Jesus coming.” Then we go back to The Day-Star for a final piece of evidence.

The living saints, 144,000 in number, know and understand the voice….

Notice, that it is only after that resurrection by the voice of the Father that the saints are called “the living saints.” Of course they are living! they just got resurrected! Some of them, we know not how many, have physically gone through the time of trouble such as never was, the time of Jacob’s trouble.

We are rapidly closing in on the 169th anniversary of October 22, 1844 and because so few are walking in the light of the Midnight Cry, they reason within themselves, “There must be more than 144,000, there must be… it must be a figurative number, yes, that’s it! Those words must mean a figurative number!” And so the first lie of Satan spreads like wildfire! “Ye shall not surely die!” And this, in the face of very explicit words.

All this means that the 144,000 count started with the Sabbath message, which started with the third angel’s message, which started October 23, 1844 with the vision God gave to Hiram Edson, which proved that Christ, our high priest, went into the Most Holy place and the great antitypical Day of Atonement began. When that count is done, when the last saint is numbered and sealed, here is what happens next.

I saw angels hurrying to and fro in heaven. An angel returned from the earth with a writer’s inkhorn by his side, and reported to Jesus that his work was done, that the saints were numbered and sealed. THEN I saw Jesus, who had been ministering before the ark containing the ten commandments, throw down the censer. He raised his hands upward, and with a loud voice said, It is done. And all the angelic host laid off their crowns as Jesus made the solemn declaration, He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still. p. 197, Para. 2, [1SG ].

There is only one numbered group of saints. The number is very explicit, “144,000 in number.” It’s taken, to date, 169 years so far, and the count is not over. This means that even fewer than 144,000 of those who have been exposed to the truth before today will be saved. All are responsible for the light they had access to. Many, many will die. You have the opportunity to become immortal. God so loved you that he gave his only Son, to die, to pay the price so that you could live, but it can only be in God’s appointed way.

Most people believe the lies of the SDA church about their convenient definition of the term inspiration. As taken from the book Ellen G. White Messenger to the Remnant, by Arthur L. White, we present the official church position.

Whereas, We believe the light given by God to His servants is by the enlightenment of the mind, thus imparting the thoughts, and not (except in rare cases) the very words in which the ideas should be expressed. Page 65, bottom right column.

Well, this is interesting…. maybe these guys should have spent some time in bible study?! Here is what God says.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21

If you are choosing your own words, you are using your own will to make that choice. God specifically details exactly what is happening so that none need to err. Ellen did not speak or write using her own will. And, she was not the only one….

And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam. Numbers 22:8
And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more. Numbers 22:18
And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do. Numbers 22:20
And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak. Numbers 22:35
And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak. Numbers 22:38
And the LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak. And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab. And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel. How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied? For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his! Numbers 23:5-10

And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth? Numbers 23:12

And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus. And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken? And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do? Numbers 23:16-26
And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him. And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel! As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters. He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows. He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee. And Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times. Numbers 24:1-10

Balaam could only speak what God gave him to speak, and the wicked, even Balak, thought, even after three times!! that Balaam had control of himself! So here we have an evil Balaam, who is greedy for gain, who God will not allow to say anything but what God tells him to say….!! How many times do we have to have the truth repeated to us?

And a evil SDA church who is claiming that Ellen, God’s faithful messenger, God is leaving out on her own?! To be left at the mercy of her own personal education?!

Better check it out and make a decision, ‘cause things are happening all around us at an increased pace and when it comes down you don’t want to be left out. Study now while it’s easy, ‘cause hard is coming.

We stand in the gap between a physical reality and a spiritual reality. Our state of mind determines if we are IN THE WAY, blocking, hindering, obscuring, being a stone of stumbling, one of Satan’s agents, or, IN THE WAY, of Christ, following his footsteps, helping those he connects with us to see spiritually, believe the truth, reading the Word and rightly dividing it.

Judas yielded to the temptations of Satan, and betrayed his best friend. Peter learned and profited by the lessons of Christ, and carried forward the work of reform which was left to the disciples when their Lord ascended on high. These two men represent the two classes whom Christ connects with himself, giving to them the advantages of his lessons, and the example of his unselfish, compassionate life, that they may learn of him. p. 144, Para. 2, [29OT].

The more man views his Saviour, and becomes acquainted with him, the more he will become assimilated to his image, and work the works of Christ. The age in which we live calls for reformatory action. The light of truth [God’s Word] which shines [teaches] upon us calls for men of determined action, and sterling moral worth, to labor diligently and perseveringly to save the souls of all who will hear the invitation of the Spirit of God. p. 145, Para. 1, [29OT].

It thrills my soul to continually see this beautiful harmony between the authentic Spirit of Prophecy and the Bible! God has done marvelous things with his Word! By beholding our thoughts are drawn to God and he changes our thoughts to purity, that we might be prepared for translation. He changes our acts by changing our thoughts through our reading of his words; we eat the true bread of life, the flesh of Christ, John 6.

The word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” The heart preoccupied with the word of God is fortified against Satan. Those who make Christ their daily companion and familiar friend will feel that the powers of an unseen world are all around them; and by looking unto Jesus [the Word] they will become assimilated to his image. By beholding [the Word], they become changed to the divine pattern; their character is softened, refined, and ennobled for the heavenly kingdom. p. 134, Para. 1, [30OT].

Look how God repeats the same teaching using different words in this paragraph! not once, not twice, but four!! (4)!! times! Amazing!

In order for things to change I must change, I must renounce the world, their ways, practices, methods, or I will die with them. I must embrace God, his ways, practices, methods, and I shall live, a new life, a life to live forever with him. It’s a choice.

Someone was running around fretting about others leaving the lights on, wasting the electricity and the expense thereof. It must have been potluck that day at the church. I was standing chatting with a man who carried some weighty responsibilities with his business. He was actually a part of the GC. In response to this fretting he turned to me and said, “Man, I just leave the lights on, it’s just a cost of being in business. You got to have light, to do anything.” Yeah, that’s right….

It’s amazing to me to contemplate the word light.

Truly the light is sweet, Ecclesiastes 11:7

How can light be sweet?

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; Jeremiah 15:16

Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. Ezekiel 3:3

And since God’s words are light….

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:105

Therefore, it is very true— that the light is sweet!

Besides, “You got to have light, to do anything!”

Amazing things are said in the Bible and in the authentic Spirit of Prophecy. Sometimes we need to slow down and really absorb what the individual words are saying. Perhaps the subject passage we have today is such a one. This comes to us from Original Testimony (that is the “OT” at the end of the reference) No. 25.

“Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” This is close language. Who can stand the test? The word of God is to us a daguerreotype [This word was the name used for photograph in those days.] of the mind of God and of Christ, also of man fallen, and man renewed after the image of Christ, possessing the divine mind.

The last sentence above states an amazing fact. We have been steadily examining the ideas surrounding the word word. Now we find God’s instruction plainly stating that the Bible is to us a picture “of the mind of God and of Christ!” Then it goes on to state it is a picture “of man fallen and man renewed after the image of Christ, possessing the divine mind.”

This last phrase “possessing the divine mind” tells us that “man renewed after the image of Christ” is a man who has the Word(s) of the Bible in his mind, by choice, willingly, cherishing the words of Spirit and Life, seeking how to apply those words to his own actions, that…, (look below at this next two sentences.)

We may compare our thoughts, feelings, and intentions, with the picture of Christ. We have no relationship with him unless we are willing to work the works of Christ. p. 118, Para. 1, [25OT].

…we might “work the works of Christ.” Since thought is parent to act it is imperative that we change our thoughts. We change our thoughts by the law of indirect action. We leave the undesirable thoughts as they are, unchanged, and take other, new, more desirable thoughts, and focus our mind on them. This is where God’s word comes in. We become children of the Word, living, breathing, eating, these words from God’s table, the Bible, which words are Spirit! and Life! John 6:63, and are, in fact, (spiritually, not physically) the flesh and blood of Christ! John 6:47-58.

We have all heard the saying, “You are what you eat!” And so it is! If you eat the flesh of Christ, which is the words of the Bible, and drink his blood, which is the words of the Bible, you will be “renewed after the image of Christ!” This eating of Christ’s flesh, the Word, and drinking of his blood, the Word, at God’s table, must be done with Faith and a heart to do the works. Christ’s righteousness does not do the works man can do.

Christ came to do his Father’s will. Are we following in his steps? All who have named the name of Christ should be constantly seeking for a more intimate acquaintance with him, that they may walk even as he walked, and do the works of Christ. We should appropriate the lessons of his life to our lives. “Christ gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people zealous of good works. Hereby perceive we the love of God; because he laid down his life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” Here is the work of self-denial which we must enter upon with cheerfulness, in imitation of the example of our Redeemer. The Christian’s life must be one of conflict and of sacrifice. The path of duty should be followed; not the path of inclination and of choice. p. 119, Para. 1, [25OT].

Jesus said he only spoke words that the Father gave him, John 14:24. And now these follow.

I am come a light [Psalms 119:105] into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. John 12:46-50

Oh! Beautiful! Harmony! I praise God that he, and not Ellen, is the true author of the authentic Spirit of Prophecy! She was called the weakest of the weak and that included her mental ability. Un-learned but humble in God’s sight. Willing to follow the path of duty. Someone God could use. She did not possess in herself the ability to create this harmony between the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy. Only God could do such!

I have always been attracted to the story of Enoch. Can you imagine, walking with God? Which leads us to the oft’ repeated verse.

Can two walk together, except they be agreed? Amos 3:3

The obvious answer is no. The question that comes to my mind is where? where would we meet to be agreed? If we look at Christ, our example in all things, that meeting place would have to be in words and acts. Faith and works is pretty much the same thing. We have faith in the words (from the Bible) we read because we have proved them to be from God. Faith is trust; “in God we trust” is stamped on our coin.

Trust is a decision we have made, which is a thought in our minds— THIS now becomes parent to good, righteous acts. Eve, at the tree, listened to the snake talk, because she listened to his words, she was deceived into trusting those words. Now comes the child of those thoughts, an act… of disobedience. The Bible says “and when the woman saw,” meaning it took some time for the deception to sink in. And THEN she believed the fruit to be “good for food.” But it was not, as she later found out.

All Heaven mourned on account of the disobedience and fall of Adam and Eve, which brought the wrath of God upon the whole human race. They were cut off from communing with God, and were plunged in hopeless misery. The law of God could not be changed to meet man’s necessity; for in God’s arrangement it was never to lose its force, nor give up the smallest part of its claims. p. 49, Para. 2, [1SP].

To Adam in his innocency was granted communion, direct, free and happy, with his Maker. After his transgression, God would communicate to man through Christ and angels. p. 53, Para. 3, [1SP].

Communion with God was cut off. But God proved something in Enoch. God proved that he would accept man again into communion through angels.

God communed with Enoch through his angels, and gave him divine instruction. p. 60, Para. 3, [1SP].

At length he [Enoch] chose certain periods for retirement, and would not suffer the people to find him, for they interrupted his holy meditation and communion with God. He did not exclude himself at all times from the society of those who loved him and listened to his words of wisdom; neither did he separate himself wholly from the corrupt. He met with the good and bad at stated times, and labored to turn the ungodly from their evil course, and instruct them in the knowledge and fear of God. He taught those who had the knowledge of God to serve him more perfectly. He would remain with them as long as he could benefit them by his godly conversation and holy example, and then would withdraw himself from all society–from the just, the scoffing and idolatrous, to remain in solitude, hungering and thirsting for communion with God, and that divine knowledge which he [God] alone could give him. p. 62, Para. 1, [1SP].

This harkens back to the idea of personal messages from God to you. I think everyone who studies the Bible at all agrees that every time they read it they “see” something new. Is not this a personal message from God? I think so.

What is it, exactly, that we are getting? It is words— Christ, his image, from his book, the Bible.

Little wonder that there are so many references to hearing in the Bible. Hearing what? Words.

And after the close of probation, what is it that so many want and suffer for not having? Words.

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: Amos 8:11

Better study those words now while you have the chance. Besides, some VIP said, “they are they which testify of me.”

Christ told the parable of a certain rich man, which just may be a figure of the Laodiceans, for it is them that think they are rich in spiritual discernment, No. 23, page 12. Oftentimes in this country they are physically rich also. Here is the story.

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 16:19-31

V e r y c a r e f u l l y… does the SDA church say, “Well, Ellen never claimed to be a prophet.” and “She called herself the Lord’s messenger.”

Yet, she was.

Any one who Christ talks to, and gives visions to, and commands to write out the same, and commands to teach his people— is a prophet.

In the parable Abraham tells this former rich man that “If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.” Yet this has happened many times over in the last days since October 23, 1844, the day the third angel’s message started with Hiram Edson’s vision in the cornfield.

I myself am witness to the same. For I was dead in sin, but God in mercy plucked me as a brand from the burning, saving my very life and now I live, as it were “one rose from the dead” “yet they would not hear[!!!]” Why would they not hear my testimony? Because they profess to love Moses but they do not the works of Moses! They profess to have a messenger from God and love to puff out the chest in pride, but they hate that very message from that very prophet!

So, they would not hear me, they will not hear you; though you too have been raised from the dead unto life.

I saw that our message was not to the shepherds who have led the flock astray, but to the poor hungry, scattered sheep. The Present Truth, No. 8, page 70.

Ellen was a prophet. God is the real author of her writings. They are not a part of the Bible but they are to give us a correct understanding of the Bible.

Bro. B—- would confuse the mind by seeking to make it appear that the light God has given through the Testimonies is an addition to the Word of God. But in this he presents it in a false light. God has seen fit in this manner to bring the minds of his people to his Word, to give them a more clear understanding of it. p. 153, Para. 1, [27OT].

We are 169 years into the patient, waiting, watching time. Now, very soon, it will be over. Could Christ come this October? You know, things can move very, very fast.
