The idea of freedom is very profound. In America most people have some basic ideas about freedom, even today, in spite of strong attempts to educate them away from it. Freedom is a God given right. All have the power of choice. The exercise of this power is where the price comes in.

In 1979 John Singer was murdered by the government for his refusal to stop homeschooling his children. Obviously there is much more to the story than that and the winners are the ones who write history. Interestingly, since then, homeschooling was made legal in every state in America.

Now, 34 years later, new people are on the scene of action and they only have the history written by the winners of the conflict and these, typically, know little of the principles of freedom. Because of this ignorance these newbies to the scene of action, probably heavily influenced by others of more experience but with an agenda who are behind the scenes, are promoting government action to hinder and halt homeschooling. And this in spite of and in the face of, the near total failure of government mandated education.

The point of all this is that should you happen to have children of your own whom you think should have a higher, better education than the world has to offer, you are going to have a price to pay for exercising your freedom.

Now, what about if you want to exercise your freedom of choice about the food you eat? Suppose you choose to use raw milk. In parts of America it has become a crime for a person to offer such a basic food as raw milk to those who choose to use it. Amazing! Suddenly, if you are going to exercise your freedom in this matter you are going to have to pay a price.

Because God has forewarned us, in No. 6, page 22, that in the near future Sunday will be made a test by the federal government, you will have to make a decision about your freedom of choice. Once again government is taking away your freedom, only this time God is intimately involved. Because God’s law is not recognized by the government you will suffer punishment from them for the exercise of your freedom.

Apparently that is the opening salvo of the final, open battle, leading to the Loud Cry, which is God’s final call to the planet, then the close of human probation.

But suppose you are a woman and you choose to honor God by searching out all the information on dress reform and cherishing that light by being obedient to it. Your choice to exercise your freedom will cost you. Violations of any of the world’s maxims carries a penalty, not necessarily by law, but by worldly social pressure. Especially is this true for women.

I was reading the 1849 Broadside; Ellen was taken to visit other worlds. God was showing his church that these other beings were given the same test as Adam and Eve. They had both trees. More importantly, they had the power of choice, freedom, God given freedom to choose, just like Adam and Eve. And Satan is available to tempt and annoy. But all have exercised their freedom by choosing to follow God’s instruction and being obedient to a loving God.

This is exactly where the saints in this, our day, will all be; in perfect harmony with God’s will. Exercising their God given freedom to choose to be obedient to all God’s righteous requirements. They will be safe to give immortality.

None are compelled to go to Heaven. Hence the tests. God has several tests for his professed followers, some are very evident, some must be searched out and re-discovered by study, cherishing the light that you have, which is honored by God by giving you more.

Dress reform is a case in point and a perfect example of what we have been talking about.

God has been testing his people. He allowed the testimony concerning dress to become silent, that our sisters might follow their own inclination, and thus develop the real pride existing in their hearts. It was to prevent the present state of worldliness that the reform dress was recommended. Many scorned the idea that this dress was necessary to preserve them from following the fashions. The Lord has permitted them to prove that pride was cherished in their hearts, and that this was just what they would do. And it is now shown that they needed the restriction which the reform dress imposed. p. 167, Para. 1, [30OT].

Everyone has freedom. It’s up to each one to choose to exercise that freedom, or not. The price varies. The reward varies.

In Testimony No. 23 the first seventy-one pages is, to my thinking, a special section on the time we are now living in to the church as a corporate body. As such there are specific things said that are applicable to us all.

Three of these items are found on page 22, in these words. “Especially in the closing work for the church, in the sealing time of the one hundred and forty-four thousand, who are to stand without fault before the throne of God,…”

These words were published in 1873 and are applicable to the close of probation. The Spirit of Prophecy, like all information from God, is timeless; which is why we do not buy into the lie “time and place must be considered.” The three items brought to view are “the closing work for the church,” “the sealing time of the one hundred and forty-four thousand,” and perfection. Why would these be placed like this, so tightly together? Because they are one and the same work.

Think about it. The Day of Atonement work was the final work of the year for the Israelites. So it is the final work for God’s church now. And we will here put a reminder for you about Matthew 24:14. The end there brought to view has started October 22, 1844 because the Gospel was preached to all the world, then.

Being in the final work for God’s church we are given the final work for the world. That work is the repairing of the breach in God’s law. Making known to every person that God’s law fully applies to each of us today. This is commonly called the third angel’s message, but few have any comprehension of the scope of this message.

Here is what James has to say.

Those who present this message understandingly, must first show the fulfillment of the messages of the first and second angels, [verses 6-8,] in the past Advent movement. Thus they chain all three messages together, show their harmony, and the fulfillment of God’s word in them, and the testimony relative to the second coming of Christ is bound up. {1853 JW, ST1853 99.2}

This is pointing out the walking in that strait and narrow path— in the light of the Midnight Cry. Here we see that the light of the Midnight Cry is in fact the third angel’s message properly given. And right there is the big problem. Great numbers of people have never heard the third angel’s message properly given.

James is pointing out that the very fact that the third is called third is because there was a first and second. It is a form of denial and rejection to ignore the light of the Midnight Cry by never teaching it. According to The Day-Star, Ellen’s first vision, such denial causes that light to become darkness, from which none can recover.

These are very serious matters relative to our faith and sharing it with others. We are held responsible for the light we do not share. Other souls may be lost if we do not do our part.

Since October 22, 1844 we have been living in the great anti-typical Day of Atonement. Most SDAs understand this to be true. But, there is a specific work we are to be about during this time; it is confessing our sins to God that they might be blotted out, and, perfecting our character that we might be ready for translation.

O. R. L. Crosier wrote out the truth of the application of this truth in The Day-Star EXTRA, February 7, 1846. It was endorsed by God through Ellen in A Word to the Little Flock, page 12. Our digital copy we have corrected back to the original which can be had for free from our download page. It is near the bottom of the page.

There are typos and mistakes in the original which we have replaced back into the digital copy for download. These mistakes are a part of the original text and we believe we should not do any correcting of the document to suit anyone, least of all, ourselves. You prove it. You check it. You correct your copy the way you want it corrected.

There is a second file available immediately under the corrected one, it is a comparison of the original with the digital copy we were first provided with. We invite you to look it over for the changes made and see if you agree. If so you can add them to your copy. We choose to provide a pure copy first, corrections may come later.

We highly recommend Crosiers article. All should have a copy and it should be read more than once. Many false teachers have arisen these days with every wind of doctrine blowing from their mouths. This truth is so designed by God to help anchor your faith that you may stand firm in the truth. But if you do not know that truth, you can not stand in it.

There is very much that this document teaches. Here are some high points.

1.) The law of Moses is not God’s ten commandments.

2.) It was the law of Moses that was nailed to the cross.

3.) When type met antitype the type was done away. The type was the law of Moses and it included the various feast days. These have all been done away since the cross.

4.) The type is the shadow. When we reach the substance that caused the shadow, there is no more shadow.

5.) The earthly sanctuary teaches us about the Heavenly.

6.) No atonement, at all, in any form, was ever done on Calvary.

7.) We are in the transition time between two dispensations; the Gospel dispensation, also called the dispensation of the grace of God, and it is the mystery of God, or Christ; secondly, at the beginning of the sounding of the seventh trumpet the dispensation of the fullness of times started. The overlap of the two has now been 169 years.

8.) The Day of Atonement work was not an individual work, but a corporate work, for the whole nation, as a nation. I saved this one for last, making it easier to comment upon.

God’s ways are not our ways. We all should know this. When God counts up his jewels it matters not that some are in the grave. The count for this corporate body is 144,000, no more, no less. This is very clear from a reading of The Day-Star, “The living saints, 144,000 in number.” Too many want to enlarge that number to include “a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues.” But this is a device of Satan.

The Day-Star should be taken with the 1858 Great Controversy, page 205. Here is brought to light, for the honest in heart, how the count started for the 144,000 in October 23, 1844. Read and study these two documents carefully. Both are available freely from this site, at the link above.

Study carefully my friend. Your immortal life depends on it.

The following portion of No. 21 carries an important warning. This deals closely with the fact that God will not force anyone to be saved against their will (No. 26, p. 39), or we can say, choice. Therefore the same principle applies in all things when dealing with God, including inspiration.

If I have died, then I have no wants or wishes of my own. When we are converted to the truth we are required to repent and confess our sins, believe in Jesus as our Redeemer, and be baptized. Baptism is a symbol between believers that the one converted has died to self, therefore is now ready to do only God’s will, but God does not then, nor ever, take over the will of the convert. We, each one, must continually submit our will to God’s will; every moment of every hour of every day of every week of every year of the rest of our life—even though we are given eternal life. After Satan is put away there will not be a temptation to be in rebellion against God.

The Lord made man upright in the beginning. He was created with a perfectly balanced mind. The size and strength of the organs of the mind were perfectly developed. Adam was a perfect type of man. Every quality of mind was well proportioned, each having a distinctive office, and yet dependent one upon another for the full and proper use of any one of them. Adam and Eve were permitted to eat of all the trees in the garden, save one. The Lord said to the holy pair, In the day that ye eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, ye shall surely die. Eve was beguiled by the serpent to believe that God would not do as he said he would. Ye shall not surely die, said the serpent. Eve ate, and imagined that she felt the sensations of a new and more exalted life. She bore the fruit to her husband, and that which had an overpowering influence upon him was her experience. The serpent had said that she should not die, and she had not ill effects from the fruit which could be interpreted to mean death, but just as the serpent had said, a pleasurable sensation, which she imagined was as the angels felt. Her experience stood arrayed against the positive command of Jehovah, and Adam permitted himself to be seduced by the experience of his wife. Thus it is with the religious world generally. God’s express commands are transgressed, and because “sentence against the evil-doer is not executed speedily, the hearts of the sons of men are fully set in them to do evil.” p. 105, Para. 1, [21OT].

Men and women, in the face of the most positive commands of God, will follow their own inclination, and then dare to pray over the matter, to prevail upon God to consent to allow them to go contrary to his expressed will. God is not pleased with such prayers. Satan comes by their side, as he did to Eve in Eden, and impresses them, and they have an exercise of mind, and this they relate as a most wonderful experience which the Lord has given them. A true experience will be in perfect harmony with natural and divine law. False experience will array itself against science and the principles of Jehovah. The religious world is covered with a pall of moral darkness. Superstition and bigotry control the minds of men and women, and blind their judgment so that they do not discern their duty to their fellow-men, and their duty to yield unquestioned obedience to the will of God. p. 106, Para. 1, [21OT].

Balaam inquired of God if he might curse Israel, because in so doing he had the promise of great reward. God said, Ye shall not go; but he was urged by the messengers, and greater inducements were presented. Balaam had been shown the will of the Lord in this matter, but he was so eager for the reward that he ventured to ask God the second time. The Lord permitted Balaam to go. Then he had a wonderful experience; but who would wish to be guided by such an experience as that of Balaam? There are those who would understand their duty clearly if their duty was in harmony with their natural inclinations. Circumstances and reason may indicate clearly their duty, but when against their natural inclination, these evidences are frequently set aside. Then these persons will presume to go to God to learn their duty. But God will not be trifled with. He will permit such persons to follow the desires of their own hearts. Ps. 81:11, 12: “But my people would not hearken to my voice; so I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust; and they walked in their own counsels.” p. 107, Para. 1, [21OT].

Those who are desirous to follow a course which pleases their fancy, are in danger of being left to follow their own inclinations, supposing them to be the leadings of God’s Spirit. Some have their duty indicated by circumstances and facts sufficiently clear, but have, through the solicitations of friends, in harmony with their own inclinations, been swerved from the path of duty, and passed over the clear evidences in the case; and, with apparent conscientiousness, they have prayed long and earnestly for light. They have had earnest feeling in the matter, and they interpret this to be the Spirit of God. They had light, and in the very reason of things, should have understood their duty; but a few pleasing inducements balance their minds in the wrong direction, and they urge these before the Lord, and press their case, and the Lord allows them to have their own way. They have so strong an inclination to follow their own course that God permits them to do so, and to suffer the results. These imagine they have a wonderful experience. p. 108, Para. 1, [21OT].

Let all “Submit yourselves therefore to God.” James 4:7

Sabbath August 3, 2013

Sometimes something just fits so well…. This just happens be one of those.

Necessity of Harmony. p. 117, Para. 1, [27OT].

The Spirit of God will not abide where there is disunion and contention among believers in the truth. Even if these feelings are unexpressed they take possession of the heart and drive out the peace and love that should characterize the Christian church. They are the result of selfishness in its fullest sense. This evil may take the form of inordinate self-esteem, or an undue longing for the approbation of others, even if it is obtained undeservedly. p. 117, Para. 2, [27OT].

Self-exaltation must be renounced by those who profess to love God and keep his commandments, or they need not expect to be blessed by his divine favor. p. 117, Para. 3, [27OT].

Taking this as a single unit, knowing that every word of God’s is pure, we can state that the Spirit of God is not abiding inside the SDA church because of the disunion and contention there. This is an interesting thing. If the Spirit of God is not abiding there, what spirit is there?

Tracing this further back, we can also state that the church can not ever understand the parables that Christ taught, correctly, because they are busy with Satan’s devices.

And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 1 Corinthians 3:1-3

And by extension, this means that they can never enter that rest, the Sabbath rest, which is the seal.

To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; Isaiah 28:12

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, Hebrews 4:11

If we do not enter that rest, we are not sealed; because….

This seal is the Sabbath. 1849 Broadside

How do we get that seal? Or, how do we enter that rest? Here is exactly how.

1.) Make sure you are converted, that you have repented and confessed your sins to God, not man. Do not miss this step. Christ’s righteousness only covers the sins that have been blotted out of the book, which are only the sins that have been confessed. Then you are required to be baptized. Currently God’s people are very scattered and it is extremely difficult to find one worthy to baptize another. Pray about it and leave it with God to solve. All these things the milk of the Word teaches.

2.) You MUST move on from the milk to the meat of God’s word. This is growing. Here is exactly how.

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1 Corinthians 2:13

All God’s words are spiritual, John 4:24, therefore, you take God’s words and use them to define God’s words. It is God’s definitions that teach you the greater depth of his word and comes close to you to teach you exactly what you need to know for victory over your trials and temptations.

This is considered to be “ridiculous” [Isaiah 33:19] by virtually all pastors and ministers, top to bottom. You should expect this from those who profess to go to God and yet they have gone to the world for instruction in the things of God. They are deceived and know it not; for they have not proven the source from which they drink. If they did, they too would discover the deception.

3.) Study Isaiah 28:9-13 together with 1 Corinthians 1:17 through 3:3 and you too will be taught of the Lord that the wisdom of this world is nothing but bad before God. Then put this together with Hebrews chapter 4 to understand that this Sabbath rest is in fact the deeper meeting with God through his word, which is Christ.

4.) Retain this rest for your armor. Keep it on by thinking of it throughout the day. Cherish the words of life in your mind, in all you do.

the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; Proverbs 8:6

And, teach you children so they are not lost.

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 6:7

And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 11:19

Blessed shalt thou be,
when we meet under the tree,
if not before,
for there is always more.

Notice God’s plan for the perfecting of the saints. Read carefully and notice what is being said. This is the correct understanding of many things regarding perfection.

It is not an easy matter to overcome established habits of taste and appetite for narcotics and stimulants. In the name of Christ alone can this great victory be gained. He overcame in behalf of man in the wilderness of temptation, in the long fast of nearly six weeks. He sympathizes with the weakness of man. His love for fallen man was so great that he made [an] infinite sacrifice that he might teach him in his degradation, and through his divine power elevate him finally to his throne. But it rests with man whether Christ shall accomplish for him that which he is fully able to do. p. 39, Para. 1, [26OT].

Will man take hold of divine power, and with determination and perseverance resist Satan as Christ has given him example in his conflict with the foe in the wilderness of temptation? God cannot save man, against his will, from the power of Satan’s artifices. Man must work with his human power, aided by the divine power of Christ, to resist and to conquer at any cost to himself. In short, man must overcome as Christ overcame. And then, through the victory it is his privilege to gain by the all-powerful name of Jesus, he may become an heir of God and joint heir with Jesus Christ. p. 39, Para. 2, [26OT].

This could not be the case if Christ alone did all the overcoming. Man must do his part. Man must be victor on his own account, through the strength and grace that Jesus gives him. Man must be a co-worker with Christ in the labor of overcoming,

Notice the correcting wording of the matter. It is imperative that you forget all about the devices of Satan in the suggestions of saying, “man is not a co-saviour with Christ,” subtly implying that Christ does all the work, the righteousness of Christ covers everything, only believe. Such reasoning is a lie!  God has correctly stated the matter this way “Man must be a co-worker with Christ in the labor of overcoming,” and there we are to leave it, live it, repeat it.

and then he will be partaker with Christ of his glory. It is a sacred work in which we are engaged. The apostle exhorts his brethren, “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” p. 40, Para. 1, [26OT].

It is a sacred duty that we owe to God to keep the spirit pure, as a temple for the Holy Ghost. If the heart and mind are devoted to the service of God, obeying all his commandments, loving him with all the heart, might, mind, and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves, we will be found loyal and true to the requirements of Heaven. p. 40, Para. 2, [26OT].

Since we were in No. 18, over eggs, I found several other items of interest and thought to place them here to pique your interest in reading this book. It is wonderful.

But when we take any course which decreases our strength, expends our vitality beclouds the intellect, and destroys the powers of the mind, we sin against God. In pursuing this course we are not glorifying him in our bodies and spirits which are his; but are committing a great wrong in his sight. p. 1, Para. 3, [18OT].

Even if you are most strict in the quality of your food, do you glorify God in your bodies and spirits, which are his, by partaking of such a quantity of food? Those who place so much food upon the stomach, and thus load down nature, could not appreciate the truth, should they hear it dwelt upon. They could not arouse the benumbed sensibilities of the brain to realize the value of the atonement, and the great sacrifice that has been made for fallen man. It is impossible for such to appreciate the great, precious, and exceedingly rich reward that is in reserve for the faithful overcomers. The animal part of our nature should never be left to govern the moral and intellectual. p. 15, Para. 1, [18OT].

When I have been from home sometimes, the bread, and the food generally, brought upon the table, I knew would hurt me. But I would have to eat a little to sustain life. I have suffered for want of proper food. It is a sin in the sight of Heaven to have such food. p. 28, Para. 2, [18OT].

_____ _____ has been very deficient. His wife was not provided with wholesome food, and a plenty of it, and proper clothing, while in her best condition of health. Then, when she needed extra clothing and extra food, and that of a simple, yet nutritious quality, it was not allowed her. Her system craved material to convert into blood; but he would not provide it. A moderate amount of milk and sugar, a little salt, white bread raised with yeast, for a change, graham flour prepared by other hands than her own, in a variety of ways, plain cake with raisins cooked in it, rice pudding with raisins, prunes, and figs, occasionally, and many dishes I might mention, would have answered the demand of appetite. If he could not obtain some of these things mentioned, a little domestic wine [just like Paul counseled!] would have done her no injury, but would have been better than for her to have done without it. In some cases, even a small amount of the least hurtful meat would do less injury than to suffer strong cravings for it. p. 44, Para. 2, [18OT].

Regularity in eating is very important for health of body and serenity of mind. p. 68, Para. 2, [18OT].

Violent exercise should not be engaged in immediately after a full meal; neither should the student engage in study; for this would be a violation of the laws of the system. Immediately after eating, there is a strong draught upon the nervous energy, calling into active exercise the brain force, concentrating it upon the field of labor, which is the stomach; therefore when the mind or body is taxed heavily after eating, the process of digestion is hindered. The electricity of the system, which is wanted to carry on the work in one direction, is called away and set to work in another. p. 87, Para. 2, [18OT].

The brain nerve-energy is benumbed and almost paralyzed by being over-taxed through overeating. p. 89, Para. 2, [18OT].

By the law is the knowledge of sin. The mirror which would discover to them the defects in their character, they are infuriated against, because it points out their sins. Leading Adventists who have rejected the light are fired with madness against God’s holy law, as the Jewish nation were against the Son of God. They are in a terrible deception, deceiving souls and being deceived themselves. They will not come to the light lest their deeds should be reproved. Such will not be taught. But the people who profess to keep the law of God, he corrects, he reproves. He points out their sins, and lays open their iniquity; because he wishes to separate all sin and wickedness from them, that they may perfect holiness in his fear, and be prepared to die in the Lord, or for translation to Heaven. God will rebuke, reprove, and correct them. That they may be refined, sanctified, elevated, and finally exalted to his own throne. p. 144, Para. 2, [18OT].

Ample provisions have been made for all who sincerely, earnestly, and thoughtfully, set about the work of perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Power and strength, grace and glory, have been provided through Christ, to be brought by ministering angels to the heirs of salvation. None are so low, and corrupt, and vile, but that they can find in Jesus, who died for them, strength, purity, and righteousness, if they will put away their sins, stop their course of iniquity, and turn with full purpose of heart to the living God. He is waiting to strip them of their garments, stained and polluted by sin, and to put upon them the white, bright robes of righteousness; and he bids them live and not die. In him they may flourish. Their branches will not wither nor be fruitless. If they abide in him, they can draw sap and nourishment from him, be imbued with his Spirit, and walk even as he has walked, and overcome as he has overcome, and be exalted to his own right hand. p. 146, Para. 1, [18OT].

The word of God is sufficient to enlighten the most beclouded mind, to be understood by those who have any wish to understand it. But notwithstanding all this, some of those who profess to make the word of God their study, are found living in direct opposition to its plainest teachings. Then to leave men and women without excuse, God has given plain and pointed testimonies, [notice it is not Ellen!]  bringing them to the word they have neglected to follow. Yet all the light is turned from by those who serve their own lusts, and they will not cease their course of sin, but continue to take pleasure in unrighteousness, in the face of the threatenings and vengeance of God against those who do such things. p. 148, Para. 2, [18OT].

One family in particular have needed all the benefits they could receive from the reform in diet. Yet these very ones were completely backslidden. Meat and butter were used quite freely, spices were not entirely discarded. … There should have been a specified time for each meal, and the food should have been prepared free from grease in a simple form; but pains should have been taken to have it nutritious, healthful, and inviting. p. 191, Para. 1, [18OT].

The case referred to above is not an isolated one. If it were, I would not introduce it here. When Satan takes possession of the mind, how soon the light and instruction that the Lord has graciously given, fade away, and have no force! How many excuses are framed, how many necessities made, which have no existence, to bear them up in their course of wrong, in setting aside the light and trampling it under foot! I wish to speak with assurance, that the greatest objection to health reform is, this people do not live it out, and they will gravely say they cannot live the health reform and preserve their strength. p. 193, Para. 1, [18OT].

We find in every such instance a good reason why they cannot live out the health reform. They do not live it out, and have never followed it strictly, therefore cannot be benefited by it. Some fall into the error, that because they leave meat they have no need to supply its place with the best of fruits and vegetables, prepared in their most natural state, free from grease and spices. If they will only skillfully arrange the bounties the Creator has surrounded them with, and with a clear conscience parents and children unitedly engage in the work, they would enjoy simple food, and would then be able to speak understandingly of health reform. p. 193, Para. 2, [18OT].

Wow! What a feast for a Thursday!
But, it gets better! Far better….

Wednesday July 24, 2013

We live in a very special hour of the plan of salvation. That this was fully known to the disciples is abundantly clear from their words published in the Bible under the inspiration of the Spirit. The following is a perfect example.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19

That “times of refreshing” did come beginning October 22, 1844. We know this to be fact because God confirmed the movement of Christ into the Most Holy place on October 23, 1844 in a vision given to his church through Hiram Edson.

We know that the “times of refreshing” did come because in our study of the sanctuary service in the typical, the Day of Atonement was the day of the blotting out of the sins that had been confessed. According to the text, these two events are happening together. So we can say, since the time of the blotting out of sins has come, that means we are in the times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.

This is intensely interesting. Much, very much of the plan of salvation is focused on this point. We need to bring in another very important text.

and this is the refreshing: Isaiah 28:12

There are sixteen verses in the Bible that us the word refresh in some form. The first two tie this word directly to the Sabbath. Exodus 23:12; 31:17 Very interesting….

And Isaiah 28:12 also says, “This is the rest.” That means that rest and refreshing are very nearly the same thing. Hebrews has something to say on this rest too.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4:9-11

So what is this rest? and what is this refreshing? and what is behind the word this? what is it talking about? Hebrews again has something to say about it.

For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. Hebrews 4:4

“Oh! the Sabbath, it’s the Sabbath!” you say. Not so fast. The answer is both yes and no. It is the Sabbath on the surface, of which the other does not negate, but it is much more than the Sabbath. More from Isaiah.

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. Isaiah 28:11-13

Have you heard God’s voice speak to you with stammering lips? That’s a real question. How about with another tongue? I know, SDAs are terrified of tongues. I did not write the Bible, that is just what it says. It is saying that God’s voice heard as stammering lips and another tongue is the rest and is the refreshing, BUT, they would not hear it! Why? Because it was foreign to them, it scared them, they were not familiar with it!!!

That is exactly why God says that we need to enter into this rest. We must become familiar with this refreshing. It is God’s voice, that’s what it says. Then it says, “the word of the Lord,” I think that means God’s voice, and it goes on to carefully show us in very explicit language that it must be God’s word, stacked on top of Bible text, on top of God’s word, on top of Bible text, on top of God’s voice in the authentic Spirit of Prophecy, on top of, a total of ten layers deep!!!

What is this? It is very carefully explained in the Bible.

not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:13-14

Right here is a big problem with Laodicea, they think they are rich in spiritual discernment, No. 23, p. 12, when the very fact that they know nothing about the true Sabbath rest and refreshing is prima facie evidence that they most certainly are not.

Better study it! Don’t be a natural man who won’t receive the things of the Spirit of God!

I want to talk about me today.

I have been an American all my life.

Politically I have been programed from the cradle to the (looming closer) grave to respect the principle of freedom.

Religiously I have been programed from the cradle to the (looming closer) grave to respect the principle of freedom.

Get my idea?

Right now in America there is a lot of talk on spying and privacy and freedom. Here is an excerpt from this article.

“Liberty” – a word very rarely used any more – seems to have largely retained its original meaning: the innate right of an individual to live life without interference. Liberty is the right to do, say, purchase, love, laugh, live, cry and whatever else they can think of as they see fit. This is the liberty of which the founding fathers spoke when writing the US Constitution. It is a word whose utterance – and certainly whose meaning – has all but vanished from modern American politics.

This distinction is relevant to today’s privacy, political targeting and “war on journalism” scandals because of the power that the word “freedom” has over the American people. Americans are willing to die for this word because they have been conditioned all their lives to do so.

I too have been conditioned all my life to do so, and that right there is the rub. Satan attacks me on that point. Notice this text.

Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; Ecclesiastes 7:7

We know positively that the day is coming when Sunday will be made a test. Check No. 6, page 22. This is crossing the line for God’s people. Here is what God tells us to do.

And those who will not receive the mark of the beast and his image, when the decree goes forth, must have decision now to say, nay, we will not regard the institution of the beast. p.55, [CEV].

Best we follow God’s counsel and prepare ourselves for being branded by the media for our honoring of God’s law before man’s law. We have been well warned.

God testified that O. R. L. Crosier wrote out the truth about the Law of Moses, also the title of his article, written out and published in The Day-Star, Extra, February 7, 1846, through Ellen in her letter of April 21, 1847 and published in A Word to the Little Flock.

Either God is a liar or men, who pick at what Crosier wrote, are liars. “God be true, but every man a liar” is where I shall stand.

Here is an excerpt which also appears in The Advent Review, No. 3, September 1850.

The atonement is the great idea of the Law, as well as the Gospel; and as the design of that of the Law was to teach us that of the Gospel, it is very important to be understood.

The atonement which the priest made for the people in connection with their daily ministration was different from that made on the tenth day of the seventh month. In making the former, they went no further than in the Holy; but to make the latter they entered the Holy of Holies — the former was made for individual cases, the latter for the whole nation of Israel collectively —

The former was made for the forgiveness of sins, the latter for blotting them out — the former could be made at any time, the latter only on the tenth day of the seventh month. Hence the former may be called the daily atonement and the latter the yearly, or the former the individual, and the latter the national atonement.

Building on what we wrote yesterday. The SDA church teach there is no sinless perfection for man before Christ’s second coming. Yet this is the lie of Satan, spouted out the instant truth is spoken, “Ye shall not surely die.”

The other lie of Satan they teach, by saying there is no sinless perfection in this life, is there is only the Holy place experience, not the Most Holy. Read again the text from Crosier. The Holy place ministration was for the forgiveness of sins, the Most Holy for blotting them out.

Satan has got the church teaching that our sins are not to be blotted out in this time, yet this is the very work that is carried on ever since October 22, 1844 and will only stop at the close of probation. This is a part of their not walking in the light of the Midnight Cry. They are trying to get to Heaven some other way than God’s appointed way. Christ’s righteousness only covers the sins that are blotted out, not un-confessed, un-forsaken sin.

All whose sins are not blotted out of the book will not be saved. All who are willing to believe whatever they are told, without checking or proving, will not be saved. No one will stumble into Heaven.

Another point this excerpt teaches is that the Holy place ministration was for individuals, the Most Holy was for God’s church corporately. This the church denies. The late Robert Wieland pushed for corporate repentance, but those in control would have no part of that. It would require too much for them to stomach, confession of sin. This alone is a major reason you must separate from the SDA church. You can not be a part of that sinful corporate body and a part of God’s true church. The SDA church would give glory to the man of sin while the true church would give glory to God , as a united corporate body; united by the truth.

Here are two witnesses to the truth.

The want of this necessary preparation will shut out the greatest portion of the young professors, for they will not labor earnestly and zealously enough to obtain that rest that remains for the people of God. They will not honestly confess their sins, that they may be pardoned and blotted out. These sins in a short time will be revealed in just their enormity. God’s eye does not slumber. He knows every sin that is hidden from mortal eye. The guilty know just what sins to confess, that their souls may be clean before God. p. 69, Para. 2, [4OT].

When Bro. C— once takes a position on the wrong side, it is not easy for him to confess he has erred. But if he can let his wrong course pass out of his mind and pass from the memory of others, and he can make some changes for the better without an open acknowledgment of his wrong, he will do so. But all these errors and unconfessed sins stand registered in Heaven, and will not be blotted out until be complies with the direction given in the Word of God: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” If Bro. C— has found another plan than that given us by our Lord, it is not a safe way, and will prove his ruin at last. This other way is ruinous to the church–ruinous to the prosperity and happiness of his family. p. 146, Para. 1, [27OT].
