Most people believe the lies of the SDA church about their convenient definition of the term inspiration. As taken from the book Ellen G. White Messenger to the Remnant, by Arthur L. White, we present the official church position.

Whereas, We believe the light given by God to His servants is by the enlightenment of the mind, thus imparting the thoughts, and not (except in rare cases) the very words in which the ideas should be expressed. Page 65, bottom right column.

Well, this is interesting…. maybe these guys should have spent some time in bible study?! Here is what God says.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21

If you are choosing your own words, you are using your own will to make that choice. God specifically details exactly what is happening so that none need to err. Ellen did not speak or write using her own will. And, she was not the only one….

And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam. Numbers 22:8
And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more. Numbers 22:18
And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do. Numbers 22:20
And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak. Numbers 22:35
And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak. Numbers 22:38
And the LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak. And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab. And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel. How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied? For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his! Numbers 23:5-10

And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth? Numbers 23:12

And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus. And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken? And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do? Numbers 23:16-26
And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him. And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel! As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters. He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows. He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee. And Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times. Numbers 24:1-10

Balaam could only speak what God gave him to speak, and the wicked, even Balak, thought, even after three times!! that Balaam had control of himself! So here we have an evil Balaam, who is greedy for gain, who God will not allow to say anything but what God tells him to say….!! How many times do we have to have the truth repeated to us?

And a evil SDA church who is claiming that Ellen, God’s faithful messenger, God is leaving out on her own?! To be left at the mercy of her own personal education?!

Better check it out and make a decision, ‘cause things are happening all around us at an increased pace and when it comes down you don’t want to be left out. Study now while it’s easy, ‘cause hard is coming.

Knowing that in the reading of No. 20, pages 42-49, God tells us explicitly that the Spirit of Prophecy is not to give new light, we continually look for the confirmation of scripture. We have found another such passage in the Bible which confirms this simplified great truth.

First, here is the passage from Spiritual Gifts, Vol. 3, page 266.

The first and second commandments spoken by Jehovah are precepts against idolatry, which if practiced would lead men to great lengths in sin and rebellion, and result in the offering of human sacrifices. God would guard against the least approach to such abominations. p. 266, Para. 8, [3SG].

And here is the confirming Bible text from the Apocrypha, the book Wisdom of Solomon, chapter 14 and verse 27.

For the worshiping of idols not to be named is the beginning, the cause, and the end, of all evil.

There are actually several verses, about four chapters worth, that deal with this subject of idols and the worship of things made by men.

Recently I found this page which carries a picture of people who today are worshiping an idol. From my perspective of reading God’s word, the sheer foolishness of a man making something and then calling it a god is just ludicrous. It’s no wonder God tells us about the willing ignorance of such people.

But to identify the worship of idols as the source of so much evil, makes the case that maybe Satan has self-worship going on. And maybe in God’s eyes, selfishness is really a setting up of self as ones own personal idol. Humm…. I’ll be giving that some thought.

Selfishness reminds me of covetousness, which evil God has a whole program laid out to suppress any growth of. Remember the location of the chapter by that name in the 1858 Great Controversy? Very interesting.

Time for a review of what we have learned about God’s word.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:105

Using this text as our launch pad, mostly because it is so well known, God gives us two definitions for his word. Lamp and light.

Moving from that to other directions, we found a lamp in Genesis 15:17 that was “burning.” Then we discovered that Christ defined John the Baptist as a “burning and a shining light.” Which makes John the Baptist God’s word.

He also was a representative of the 144,000 and this makes them also God’s word. Then we explored some of the texts that clearly show God’s word in his people. The language used is intense. It is pointed and explicit, leaving little room for any mis—understanding.

As an SDA I was taught IMPLICITLY (and I must say, that these words from states my understanding perfectly, “1. Implied or understood though not directly expressed: an implicit agreement not to raise the touchy subject.”), that all things “spirit” were best left to the pastor to handle, otherwise things could easily get out of control and messy. Besides, virtually all who brought up the subject were quickly put down, and it was not usually a soft landing.

My perspective is that this matter of God’s word being his people, acts like a dividing line between believers and nonbelievers. It opens each soul to the truth of their standing before God. The 144,000 are spoken of as being “without fault before the throne of God.” This is God’s word, for it is without fault also.

Coming before God knowing we are sinners, seeing this standard of perfection before us, we shrink inside. How can God possibly propose to do this!? This is unthinkable. Some struggle to create a “respectable” way out. Others, the few, cling to God’s word, knowing it is pure, that “in him is no darkness at all.”

This is God drawing you to himself.

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him:  John 6:44

The 144,000 are drawn by the Father. Many others are also but something happens.

Bro. —-, you are not as these men, We would not compare you to them; but we would say, Beware of walking in their footsteps, and of having your conversation with covetousness. This desire to obtain means for selfish purposes, by ministers, is a snare to them, which if they continue in, will prove their overthrow. As they get their eyes upon self, their interest in the prosperity of God’s cause, and their love for poor souls, become less and less. They do not lose their love for, and interest in, the truth at once. It is a gradual work. Their departure from the cause of right is gradual and imperceptible, so much so that it is frequently difficult to tell the time when the change in them took place. I think your course highly dangerous. You have not felt the necessity of heeding the light God has given you, and arousing yourself to save your household, and acquiting yourself as a father and priest of your household. You did not deny the light given you. You did not rise up against it. But you neglected to carry it out, because it was not convenient, and agreeable to your feelings, to do this. Therefore you were like Meroz. You came not up to the help of the Lord, although the matter was of such vital consequence as to effect the eternal interests of your children. You neglected your duty. You were in this respect a slothful servant. You have but little sense of how God regards the neglect of parents to discipline their children. Had you reformed here, you would have seen the necessity of the same effort to maintain discipline and order in the church. Your slackness, that has been manifested in your family, has been seen in your labors in the church. You cannot build up the church until you are a transformed man. The neglect of the light that God has given you, has, in a degree, made you captive; subject to Satan’s devices; therefore a door has been left open for him to gain access to you in other directions, and make you a weak man. Satan sees he has made a success of blinding your eyes to the interests of your family, in leading you to neglect the light the Lord has given. Satan has beset you in another direction. He has excited your love of traffic, your love of gain; and by doing this, your interest has been divided from the cause and work of God. The love of God and the truth is gradually becoming of less importance. Souls for whom Christ died are of less value to you than your temporal interests. If you pursue the course you have, you will soon become jealous, and sensitive, and envious, and will go away from the truth as others have gone. p. 74, Para. 1, [20OT].

John the Baptist separated himself, because he was serious about spiritual realities. No one will ever be compelled to be in Heaven or be one of God’s people. All will be there by their own continually free choice.

It is a continually free choice to side with God, to yield to his drawing, to be his word in an evil world. As soon as we make a different choice, the word leaves.

We must keep separate from the world, if we would have the love of God abide with us. As soon as we begin to be conformed to this world, just so soon God’s Spirit begins to depart from us. [R&H, June 10, 1852]

I just found these texts. I was so amazed at how in complete harmony the authentic Spirit of Prophecy is with the Bible. It should be, the author is the same.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: Proverbs 15:8

The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind? Proverbs 21:27

Now, obviously this makes sense, but let me tell you what this is really about. Harvest Ingathering. Collecting an offering from worldlings, is bringing an abomination to the LORD.

Now you can check out No. 7, page 73, top half, for confirmation.

I actually did a post on this item back here.  But I did not have the text to go with it, at that time.

All this does is prove, once again, that the authentic Spirit of Prophecy is in perfect harmony with the Bible, and the counterfeit SOP was written by man, using the lies of Satan.

But let’s go into this just a little deeper, on a spiritual level.

We have a whole church, the SDA denomination, coming to God, and offering to him, something that he has specifically identified as an abomination, for a consecrated offering to do his work.

I suggest you follow God’s advise in the following texts.

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. 1 Corinthians 10:21

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Ephesians 5:6-9

neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. 1 Timothy 5:22

Who is this woman? who would take such a place in God’s church!?
Matthew 15:22; Mark 7:25; Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 2, page 301, chapter titled, “Woman of Canaan.” (See this past Monday’s post)

Can it be that she is an example to the flock!
but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Philip. 2:3
It’s no wonder then, “That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.” Matthew 21:31

I praise God that a dear sister in the faith brought out another point of faith, found in that same parable, “Woman of Canaan.” Here are the important texts.

But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs. Mark 7

In the first part Christ is pointing out that the saints (children) are served first. They are eating bread, which is the Word of God. Christ even says…..

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, Matthew 7:6

But the woman is importuning him. She is taking her place, as stated by Christ. In a beautiful garment, reflecting Christ’s character, she humbly accepts the place offered, as a dog. She has a perfect faith in Christ. And so it is that she took the advise of Proverbs 25.

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen. Proverbs 25:6-7

And Christ commended her faith, and placed her story on record for all generations as an example of perfect faith; thus, having taken the low seat, she is brought “up hither” to a high seat.

She exemplified Christ’s humility. Identifying herself as a dog, she still continues to ask. What is it she’s got to have? Crumbs of the un-defiled Word of God. She is a good dog. In this parable the term “dog,” means, “lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

All this is to be contrasted with SDAs, in general, who come tromping in, running, jumping and hopping around the room, unruly children; the “dumb dogs” of Isaiah 56, even “greedy dogs” always out for gain; disrespectful of your pearls of truth, grabbing and tearing at the bread you put on the table. Unthankful, unholy, “Is this all you have?” is their cry of disdain.

They leave the place in a mess, and are off to the seminary. To them the bread you shared was foolishness. They left that holy table for the many seminary tables of Isaiah 28:8. Tables that are approved by the world; full of bread they like, night and day. But God says that those tables are full of vomit and filthiness!!!

We may be like dogs to them, but God feeds us with the bread of the pure truth of his Word, every one of which is pure. Proverbs 30:5

Politics. It’s one of those “things” you are supposed to stay away from,… like religion. Since we deal with the other, today we deal with the one.

In the counterfeit SOP is an interesting statement I find to be quite counter to many other quotes in the counterfeit. Here is the statement.

Dear youth, what is the aim and purpose of your life? Are you ambitious for education that you may have a name and position in the world? Have you thoughts that you dare not express, that you may one day stand upon the summit of intellectual greatness; that you may sit in deliberative and legislative councils, and help to enact laws for the nation? There is nothing wrong in these aspirations. You may every one of you make your mark. You should be content with no mean attainments. Aim high, and spare no pains to reach the standard. RH, August 19, 1884 par. 3

Like all of Satan’s devices, and this being no exception, it sounds like a good thing; until examined in the light of truth. We will get to that in a moment. First, here is some interesting information from the rest of the counterfeit SOP.

This passage is used once more, before the death of Ellen, and four more times after, in various books. In the Testimonies reference to political things seems rather rare. We have touched on part of this before, here.

Elsewhere in the counterfeit, there are 43 hits on “politics” and 18 hits on “voting,” from the White Estate CD. The striking difference here, is there is little, to no, support for involvement in politics. The little comes from the temperance movement.

Here is the truth.

If L—- neglects to become acquainted with religious subjects and practical Christianity, his life will be a mistake. He should see that he needs an education in spiritual and divine things, that he may use his abilities wholly for God. The Lord calls for young men to work in his vineyard. Young men should not neglect the essential branches of education. But if they turn their entire attention to secular study, and neglect to become intelligent on the great subject of religion, and do not acquire a Christian experience, they are becoming disqualified for the work of God. p. 159, Para. 3, [26OT].
Young men should devote much time to study, but they should also unite physical labor with their mental efforts, and put in practice the knowledge they have gained. That all the faculties of the mind, and powers of the body may be equally developed by useful exercise. But they should not neglect the things necessary to salvation, nor consider them secondary to anything in this life. p. 160, Para. 2, [26OT].

Usually politics becomes rather absorbing for those who dabble in it. Satan uses anything, to distract us, take up our time, prevent us from entering the mysteries of godliness.

Bro. —-, encourage simplicity, love, forbearance, and sweet union with your brethren. But do not, oh! do not, sell everlasting life so cheaply. You will never know real happiness if you go from the truth. You will be miserable indeed. Heaven is worth making any and every sacrifice for. Break the bands of Satan. Jesus is now inviting you. Will you listen to his voice? You must take a higher stand than you have hitherto done. Make the kingdom of Heaven, and the righteousness of Christ, your first business. Live for God and Heaven, and the eternal reward will be yours at the end of the race. p. 33, Para. 3, [17OT].
The Lord will not commit to your trust any larger work until the work now before you has been seen and performed with a ready, cheerful will. Unless the heart is put into the work, it will drag heavily, whatever that work may be. The Lord tests our ability by giving us small duties to perform first. If we turn from these with dissatisfaction and murmuring, no more will be entrusted to us until we take right hold cheerfully of these small duties, and do them well; then, higher and greater responsibilities will be committed to us. p. 68, Para. 1, [17OT].
The pure element of love will expand the soul for higher attainments, for increased knowledge of divine things, so that it will not be satisfied short of the fullness. The most of professed Christians have no sense of the spiritual strength they might obtain were they as ambitious, zealous, and persevering to gain a knowledge of divine things as they are to obtain the paltry, perishable things of this life. The masses professing to be Christians have been satisfied to be spiritual dwarfs. They have no disposition to make it their highest object to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; hence, godliness is a hidden mystery to them–they cannot understand it. They know not Christ by experimental knowledge. Let men and women who are satisfied with their dwarfed, crippled condition in divine things, be suddenly transported to Heaven, and for an instant witness the high, holy state of perfection that ever abides there,–every soul filled with love; joy beaming from every countenance; the high melodious strains of enchanting music in honor of God and the Lamb; the ceaseless streams of light that flow from the face of him who sitteth upon the throne, and from the Lamb, upon the faces of his saints; and yet higher and greater joy to experience (for the more they receive and exercise the enjoyment of God, the more is their capacity increased to bear more, to rise higher in eternal, immortal enjoyment, and thus continue to receive new and greater supplies from the ceaseless sources of glory and bliss inexpressible);— and could such persons mingle with the heavenly throng, participate in their songs, and endure the high, pure, exalted, spiritual, transporting glory that emanates from God and the Lamb? Oh, no! their probation was lengthened for years that they might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. But they had a selfish business of their own to engage the powers of their minds, and the energies of their beings. They could not afford to serve God unreservedly, and make this a business. Worldly enterprises must come first, and take the best of their powers, and a transient thought is devoted to God. Are such to be transformed after the final decision, He that is holy, let him be holy still, he that is filthy, let him be filthy still? Such a time is coming. p. 88, Para. 3, [17OT].

The short of all this, is that if you become a Christian, a pilgrim and a stranger, you become an alien to this world, and it is no longer your home.
Here is what we are told to do.

And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. Jeremiah 29:7

We have a little catch-up work to do here.

A page has been in the works, to be added on our site  for Bible Words Spiritually Discerned. We have the recordings of the conference call that will be available for downloading off that page. We will be featuring some links for your convenience.

A certain amount of studies will also be put up ASAP for those new who want a good place to start. This Bible study, searching for the true spiritual meaning, is very important to us. We believe this to be the hand of God, moving out in power to help his people prepare for eternal life.

One of the sisters in the faith brought up the book of Ruth. Just in a quick overview it looks very strong to the importance of the 144,000. Here is a sample.

The Lord grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Ruth 1:9

We have bolded some important words.

Bible Word    Spiritual Meaning            Texts

Rest        Hidden Treasure        Isa. 28:11-12; Heb. 4:1-12

House        Church                Heb. 3:6; Ps. 65:4; Mat. 10:14

Her        Woman = God’s people        Revelation 12

Husband    Christ                    Isa. 54:5

Now we want to paraphrase the text.

The Lord grant you that ye may find the hidden treasure (rest), each of you in the church (house) of God’s people (her) where Christ is the head. (husband.)

Perhaps not the perfect application, but you should be getting the idea. And here is a warning. If this does not look right to you, you should be very careful, you could be deceived by Satan about these things. 1 Corinthians 2:14 may apply to you!

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor. 2:14

If in any wise this applies, if you can see no light in these things, run to your closet and pray to God to save you. You must be converted or you will not see Heaven. Open Revelation 3:14. Start reading the message to the Laodiceans. Open that door of your heart. Pray that God will present to your mind where your darling sins are. Is it TV? Food? The desire to acquire?

God will make sin known to you so that you can put it away. True spiritual understanding only comes from making a full commitment, an entire consecration. 1858 Great Controversy, p. 142

Then will open before you the treasures of spiritual things.

And part two:

and will go on, and all will be shaken out who are not willing to take a bold and unyielding stand for the truth,

How many times in your own history have you witnessed someone stand for the light they had? stand for the truth they understood? stand alone, facing the, nearly, whole church body? If you have not witnessed it, I am sure you have heard of such a case. Now, it is easier to understand in it’s true setting; for the shaking started, back in 1850.

and sacrifice for God and his cause. The angel said, “Think ye that any will be compelled to sacrifice. No. no. It must be a free-will offering. It will take all to buy the field.”–I cried to God to spare his people, some of whom were fainting and dying.

I saw that those who have strength to labor with their hands, and help sustain the cause, were as accountable for that strength, as others were for their property.

The I saw that the judgements of Almighty God were speedily coming. I begged of the angel to speak in his language to the people. Said he, “All the thunders and lightnings of Mount Sinai would not move those who will not be moved by the plain truths of the word of God; neither would an angel’s message awake them.”

I then beheld the beauty and loveliness of Jesus. His robe was whiter than the whitest white. No language can describe his glory and exalted loveliness. All, all who keep the commandments of God, will enter in through the gates into the City, and have right to the tree of life, and ever be in the presence of the lovely Jesus, whose countenance shines brighter than the sun at noonday.

Then I was pointed to Adam and Eve in Eden. They partook of the forbidden tree, and then the flaming sword was placed around the tree of life, and they were driven from the Garden, lest they should partake of the tree of life, and be immortal sinners. The tree of life was to perpetuate immortality. I heard an angel ask, “Who of the family of Adam have passed that flaming sword, and have partaken of the tree of life?” I heard another angel answer, “Not one of the family of Adam have passed that flaming sword, and partaken of that tree; therefore there is not an immortal sinner. The soul that sinneth it shall die an everlasting death; a death that will last for ever, where there will be no hope of a resurrection; and then the wrath of God will be appeased.”

I saw that the saints will rest in the Holy City, and reign as kings and priests one thousand years; then Jesus will descend with the saints upon the mount of Olives, and the mount will part asunder, and become a mighty plain for the Paradise of God to rest upon.

This incredibly important point should be marked carefully by all. At Christ’s second coming, all the saints will meet him in the air, he will not then touch the earth. It is at this, his third coming, at the end of the 1,000 years, that Christ touches the mount of Olives.

This shows forth the truth. Beware of any other part of the counterfeit SOP that claims this happens at the second coming, it is the lies of Satan. There are two references of note on this point. The first is Desire of Ages, page 829, declares, “when he comes again” he will touch the mount of Olives. Great Controversy, page 359, quotes from Joseph Wolff’s journal, saying a much stronger, more elaborate, description, and nothing around it says he was wrong; he is quoted “as if” he were correct.

The rest of the earth will not be cleansed until the wicked dead are raised (at the end of the one thousand years) and gather up around the city; for the feet of the wicked will never desecrate the earth made new. Then fire will come down from God out of heaven and devour them; burn them up root and branch. Satan is the root, and his children are the branches. The same fire that will devour the wicked, will purify the earth.

We have perfect harmony with the 1858 Great Controversy in all points mentioned. This passage does not, however, tell all that we now know.

Eli Curtis.–It is well known by many of the brethren, that Eli Curtis has published many of my visions. He has pursued such an inconsistent course for some time past; and his influence on the cause of truth is such at this time that I feel it my duty to say to the brethren that I have no faith in his course; and that he has published my visions contrary to my wishes, even after I had requested him not to publish them. E. G. White.

I left this last paragraph in, because too many people claim that they do not want to say anything bad about anyone.  Well, there comes a time when you will be held responsible for not sounding the warning about a wolf in sheep’s clothes.

Chapter 12 is next. One chapter per vision, generally, but not always. Part one of two.

The Present Truth, No. 9, p. 71, April 1850, (date published)

April 1, 1850 To the “Little Flock.”

Dear Brethren.–The Lord gave me a view, January 26, which I will relate. I saw that some of the people of God were stupid and dormant; and were but half awake, and did not realize the time we were now living in; and that the “man” with the “dirt-brush” had entered, and that some were in danger of being swept away.

You can find “Brother Miller’s Dream” about the man with the dirt-brush, in chronological order, in this work on page #.

I begged of Jesus to save them, to spare them a little longer, and let them see their awful danger, that they might get ready before it should be for ever too late. The angel said, “Destruction is coming like a mighty whirlwind.” I begged of the angel to pity and to save those who loved this world, and were attached to their possessions, and were not willing to cut loose from them, and sacrifice them to speed the messengers on their way to feed the hungry sheep, who were perishing for want of spiritual food.

The 1858 GC points out, on page 142, that those who were perfect and prepared for translation on October 22, 1844, had made an entire consecration, a complete sacrifice.

As I viewed poor souls dying for want of the present truth, and some who professed to believe the truth were letting them die, by withholding the necessary means to carry forward the work of God, the sight was too painful, and I begged of the angel to remove it from me. I saw that when the cause of God called for some of their property, like the young man who came to Jesus, [Matthew 19:16-22.] they went away sorrowful; and that soon the overflowing scourge would pass over and sweep their possessions all away, and then it would be too late to sacrifice earthly goods, and lay up a treasure in heaven.

Present Truth is now being revived. Various individuals have stood up in fulfillment of the saying in the 1858 Great Controversy, page 184, to give “the straight testimony” to the Laodiceans. But now, the Internet has arrived. No more can those in power prevent the spread of information. Light is available to all, virtually everywhere.

Bert Haloviak, evidently a researcher for the General Conference, wrote a paper titled, “In the Shadow of the ‘Daily’: Background and Aftermath of the 1919 Bible and History Teacher’s Conference,” available on the church’s web archive site, and noting an amazing point many have never heard of. On pages 24-25 he quotes Stephen Haskell as remembering a prediction by Ellen, that “there would be a time when the testimonies would be in demand ‘just as they were originally given in order to meet objections before we got through.’”
Today the demand is high, among those who want truth. You can help by supporting this work, wherever you see it being done.

I then saw the glorious Redeemer, beautiful and lovely, that he left the realms of glory, and came to this dark and lonely world, to give his precious life and die, the just for the unjust. He bore the cruel mocking and scourging, and wore the platted crown of thorns, and sweat great drops of blood in the garden; while the burden of the sins of the whole world were upon him. The angel asked, “What for?” O, I saw and knew that it was for us; for our sins he suffered all this, that by his precious blood he might redeem us unto God.
Then again was held up before me those who were not willing to dispose of this world’s goods to save perishing souls, by sending them the truth, while Jesus stands before the Father, pleading his blood, his sufferings and his death for them; and while God’s messengers were waiting, ready to carry them the saving truth that they might be sealed with the seal of the living God.

Printed matter is called “the silent messengers” and for many, it is all they have.

It was hard for some who professed to believe the present truth, to even do so little as to hand the messengers God’s own money, that he had lent them to be stewards over.
Then the suffering Jesus, his sacrifice and love so deep, as to give his life for them, was again held up before me; and then the lives of those who professed to be his followers, who had this world’s goods, and considered it so great a thing to help the cause of salvation. The angel said, “Can such enter heaven?” Another angel answered, “No, never, never, never. Those who are not interested in the cause of God on earth, can never sing the song of redeeming love above.”
I saw that the quick work that God was doing on earth would soon be cut short in righteousness, and that the swift messengers must speed on their way to search out the scattered flock. An angel said, “Are all messengers? No, no, God’s messengers have a message.”

Notice the perfect harmony here also, as the false shepherds are not mentioned as being subjects of the search. As I am sure you will remember, page # of this work, and the Present Truth, No. 8, p. 64, God explicitly instructs us not to try taking this message to the false shepherds.

I saw that the cause of God had been hindered, and dishonored by some travelling who had no message from God. Such will have to give an account to God for every dollar they have used in travelling where it was not their duty to go; for that money might have helped on the cause of God, and for the lack of it, souls have starved and died for the want of spiritual food, that might have been given them by God’s called and chosen messengers if they had had the means.

Ever gone to a meeting where someone stood up to talk and he had no message? All such will have a fearful account to pay.

           The mighty shaking has commenced,

This is the first announcement by God that the shaking has started. Once this is accepted, many other passages will be seen in their true light. A good example of this can be found in No. 9, p. 1, “Everything is to be shaken that can be shaken.”

Now all the church trials through which you have had to pass make sense. You are being prepared for Heaven. Your character is being perfected.

This also is in total disagreement with the way most understand this faith. There are a huge number of charts extant today, all showing the shaking as being yet future. They are all in darkness, the blind leading the blind. This is the effect of reading and studying the counterfeit as if it were from God, and this, in spite of the fact, that these words appear in six different publications of the counterfeit. “God does nothing in partnership with Satan.” No. 27, p. 129.

Today we are going to look at an un-authenticated manuscript. Everything about this piece looks good, smells good, but we lack ability to prove it. Apparently, it is a letter written by Ellen, with a post script by James.

What makes this “alleged” letter; if in deed Ellen did write it, probably seems high, very interesting is the language used, as the 144,000 are mentioned. We want to take a very close look at that, as we go through. We begin.

(Written March 18, 1850, to Leonard W. Hastings, of New Ipswich, NH.)

I hardly know what to say to you. The news of your wife’s death was to me overwhelming. I could hardly believe it and can hardly believe it now. God gave me a view last Sabbath night which I will write.
I saw [that] God gave Brother A a dream which, if he had followed, he would have been with you in your wife’s distress;

I will here comment again about the utility of keeping a writing instrument and paper by your bedside. “Paper remembers, people forget,” is a great saying. I quite often have dreams of a totally unimportant nature, which I make it a habit to put out of mind. However, I did have one that was important to me.  The key thing is, I captured it, on paper.
This allows you to analyze it after you wake.

and if Brother B had not been with him he would have gone to God alone, and he would have seen by the dream and by the drawings of the Spirit that he must come directly to your house when Satan had gotten your wife in his grasp, and by faith in God would have wrenched her from the power of the enemy. But he leaned upon Brother B some for duty and followed his impressions instead of the light God gave him in the dream.

This is similar to the difference between faith and feeling.

I saw it was for no wrong of yours that she was taken away, but if Brother A had come directly to your house she would have been rescued from the grasp of the enemy.
I saw [that] they did wrong in afflicting the afflicted by reproving you for having the funeral on the Sabbath. I saw they had better been looking at themselves and seeing where they had erred from the path of duty that God had marked out for them to go in.

It is my settled opinion that SDA members actually know very little about keeping the Sabbath. There are a great many things they do wrong, such as the above, and are generally in darkness, groping about this and that.

I saw that she was sealed and would come up at the voice of God and stand upon the earth, and would be with the 144,000. I saw we need not mourn for her; she would rest in the time of trouble, and all that we could mourn for was our loss in being deprived of her company. I saw her death would result in good.

We come to the important passage. First off, we are told that Mrs. Hastings was sealed. This is in perfect harmony with what we know about the time we are living, the closing work for God’s true church, the sealing time of the 144,000.

Next, take a very careful look at these words, “and would be with the 144,000.” This is the exact same language used by the angel, in telling Ellen, in her 1849 Broadside vision, “Then the angel said, You must go back, and if you are faithful, you, with the 144,000 shall have the privilege of visiting all the worlds and viewing the handiworks of God.”

SDAs have long debated this point. Right? you know exactly what I am talking about. “Is Ellen one of the 144,000 or she just “with” them?” so goes the debate. This darkness is a direct consequence of rejecting light from God.

ALL that die “in faith under the third angel’s message, keeping the Sabbath,” are a part of the 144,000. 1858 Great Controversy, p. 205

BUT, . . . FOLKS, . . .  look at how small that number really is.

Those who refuse to be hewed by the prophets, and do not purify their souls in obeying the whole truth, and are willing to believe that their condition is far better than it really is, will come up to the time of the falling of the plagues, and then see that they needed to be hewed and squared for the building. But there will be no time then to do it; and no Mediator to plead their cause before the Father. Before this time, the awfully solemn declaration has gone forth, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” I saw that none could share the “refreshing,” unless they obtain the victory over every besetment, all pride, selfishness, love of the world, and over every wrong word and action. We should, therefore, be drawing nearer and nearer to the Lord, and be earnestly seeking that preparation necessary to enable us to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord. Let all remember that God is holy, and none but holy beings can ever dwell in his presence. p. 31, Para. 1, [CEV].

Now we know. Now we face a decision. Now is the day of salvation. Now is the time for full, total commitment. This is not a rehearsal.

God Bless your decision(s)
