Category: A) Repentance to God

Monday August 5, 2013

In harmony with yesterday’s post we have a passage from No. 16 that continues to admonish us to walk in the strait and narrow path, in the light God is pleased to give us. Great is this responsibility!!!

The Spirit, wisdom, and goodness of God, revealed in his word, are to be exemplified through the disciples of Christ, and will condemn the world. God requires of his people according to the grace and truth given them. All his righteous demands must be fully met. Accountable beings must walk in the light that shines upon them. If they fail to do this, their light becomes darkness, and their darkness is great according to the degree that their light was abundant. Accumulated light has shone upon God’s people. Many have neglected to follow the light, and for this reason are in a state of great spiritual weakness. p. 14, Para. 1, [16OT].

It is not for lack of knowledge that God’s people are now perishing. They will not be condemned because they do not know the way, the truth, and the life. The truth that has reached their understanding, the light which has shone on the soul, that has not been cherished, and which they have neglected, or refused to be led by, will condemn them. Those who never had the light to reject, will not be in condemnation. What more could have been done for God’s vineyard than has been done? Light, precious light, shines upon them; but the light will not save them, unless they consent to be saved by it, and fully live up to the light, and transmit their light to others in darkness. God calls upon his people to act. It is an individual work of confessing and forsaking of sins and returning unto the Lord, which is needed. One cannot do this work for another. Religious knowledge has accumulated, which has increased corresponding obligations. Great light has been shining upon the church, and they are condemned by the light, because they refuse to walk in it. If they were blind, they would be without sin. But they have seen light, and have heard much truth, yet are not wise and holy. Many have not advanced in knowledge and true holiness from what they were years since. They are spiritual dwarfs. Instead of going forward to perfection, they are taking back tracks to the darkness and bondage of Egypt. Their minds are not exercised unto godliness and true holiness. p. 14, Para. 2, [16OT].

Will the Israel of God awake? Will every one who professes godliness seek to put away from them every wrong, confess to God every secret sin, and afflict the soul before him? Will they, with great humility, investigate the motives of every action, and know that the eye of God reads all– searches out every hidden thing. Let the work be thorough, the consecration to God be entire. He calls for a full surrender of all that we have and are. Ministers and people need a new conversion–a transformation of the mind, without which we are not savors of life unto life, but of death unto death. Great privileges belong to the people of God. Great light has been given them, that they may attain to their high calling in Christ Jesus; yet they are not what God would have them to be, and what he designs they shall be. p. 15, Para. 1, [16OT].

We encourage all to read this entire portion, from pages 8 to 15, as they are filled with important counsel about obedience to every requirement of God. And what a beautiful thing to go about collecting up all the small, mere suggestions God gives us about the many aspects of living life to fullest in his joy! We have an opportunity to actually cheer Heaven with our ways, if we choose.

Sometimes something just fits so well…. This just happens be one of those.

Necessity of Harmony. p. 117, Para. 1, [27OT].

The Spirit of God will not abide where there is disunion and contention among believers in the truth. Even if these feelings are unexpressed they take possession of the heart and drive out the peace and love that should characterize the Christian church. They are the result of selfishness in its fullest sense. This evil may take the form of inordinate self-esteem, or an undue longing for the approbation of others, even if it is obtained undeservedly. p. 117, Para. 2, [27OT].

Self-exaltation must be renounced by those who profess to love God and keep his commandments, or they need not expect to be blessed by his divine favor. p. 117, Para. 3, [27OT].

Taking this as a single unit, knowing that every word of God’s is pure, we can state that the Spirit of God is not abiding inside the SDA church because of the disunion and contention there. This is an interesting thing. If the Spirit of God is not abiding there, what spirit is there?

Tracing this further back, we can also state that the church can not ever understand the parables that Christ taught, correctly, because they are busy with Satan’s devices.

And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 1 Corinthians 3:1-3

And by extension, this means that they can never enter that rest, the Sabbath rest, which is the seal.

To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; Isaiah 28:12

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, Hebrews 4:11

If we do not enter that rest, we are not sealed; because….

This seal is the Sabbath. 1849 Broadside

How do we get that seal? Or, how do we enter that rest? Here is exactly how.

1.) Make sure you are converted, that you have repented and confessed your sins to God, not man. Do not miss this step. Christ’s righteousness only covers the sins that have been blotted out of the book, which are only the sins that have been confessed. Then you are required to be baptized. Currently God’s people are very scattered and it is extremely difficult to find one worthy to baptize another. Pray about it and leave it with God to solve. All these things the milk of the Word teaches.

2.) You MUST move on from the milk to the meat of God’s word. This is growing. Here is exactly how.

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1 Corinthians 2:13

All God’s words are spiritual, John 4:24, therefore, you take God’s words and use them to define God’s words. It is God’s definitions that teach you the greater depth of his word and comes close to you to teach you exactly what you need to know for victory over your trials and temptations.

This is considered to be “ridiculous” [Isaiah 33:19] by virtually all pastors and ministers, top to bottom. You should expect this from those who profess to go to God and yet they have gone to the world for instruction in the things of God. They are deceived and know it not; for they have not proven the source from which they drink. If they did, they too would discover the deception.

3.) Study Isaiah 28:9-13 together with 1 Corinthians 1:17 through 3:3 and you too will be taught of the Lord that the wisdom of this world is nothing but bad before God. Then put this together with Hebrews chapter 4 to understand that this Sabbath rest is in fact the deeper meeting with God through his word, which is Christ.

4.) Retain this rest for your armor. Keep it on by thinking of it throughout the day. Cherish the words of life in your mind, in all you do.

the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; Proverbs 8:6

And, teach you children so they are not lost.

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 6:7

And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 11:19

Blessed shalt thou be,
when we meet under the tree,
if not before,
for there is always more.

We are living in the great Anti-Typical Day of Atonement and have been since the Father and Christ went into the Most Holy place on October 22, 1844. There is an important work for each saint in connection with this day’s work. It is examining our lives and making sure every sin is confessed to God that that sin might be blotted out of the books in Heaven.

There are not a large amount of references to “blotting” in the Testimonies, about seven, by my count. Sometimes it is said another way, but the message of preparation is very important. Here a couple of passages with this message.

O, let us live wholly for the Lord, and show by a well ordered life, and godly conversation that we have been with Jesus, and are his meek and lowly followers. We must work while the day lasts, for when the dark night of trouble and anguish comes, it will be too late to work for God. Jesus is still in his Holy Temple, and will now accept our sacrifices, our prayers, and our confessions of faults and sins, and will now pardon all the transgressions of Israel, that they may be blotted out before he leaves the Sanctuary. When Jesus leaves the Sanctuary, then he that is holy and righteous, will be holy and righteous still; for all their sins will then be blotted out, and they will be sealed with the seal of the living God. But those that are unjust and filthy, will be unjust and filthy still; for then there will be no Priest in the Sanctuary to offer their sacrifices, their confessions, and their prayers before the Father’s throne. Therefore, what is done to rescue souls from the coming storm of wrath, must be done before Jesus leaves the Most Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary. [RH 09-01-49 para. 7] p. 9, Para. 1, [1849MS].

To these youth I am authorized to say, Repent ye and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out. There is no time for you to waste. Heaven and immortal life are valuable treasures that will cost an effort on your part to obtain. No matter how faultless may have been your lives, as sinners you have steps to take. You are required to repent, believe, and be baptized. Christ was wholly righteous, yet he, the Saviour of the world, gave man an example, by taking the steps himself which he requires the sinner to take to become a child of God–an heir of Heaven. p. 51, Para. 1, [26OT].

It is a part of the apostasy of the church that this great work God’s people must engage and complete, is not preached, not taught, not spoken. Yet those who do not participate in this work can not be saved; for they are trying to get to Heaven outside of God’s appointed way.

Here is one more.

Your influence has been improving for some weeks in the past, but you lack a firm principle. You lack in many things, and in some things you must know where you fail. The follies of your youth have left their impress upon you, and you can never recover what you have lost through impure habits. These things have benumbed your sensibilities so that sacred things are not clearly discerned. You cannot, with your present experience, resist temptation. You cannot endure trials. You are not sanctified through the truth. You have taken hold of the truth, but the truth has not taken hold upon you, to transform you by the renewing of your mind. Oh! do not, I entreat of you, remain deceived in regard to your true condition. You are a self-deceived man. You have not felt deep conviction because of your sins, and in deep humility sought the Lord with anguish of heart, that your transgressions might be blotted out. You could not see that your ways were so sinful before God. The work is not inwrought in your soul. A self-righteous garment you have clothed yourself with to cover up the deformity of sin; but this is not the remedy. You know not what true conversion is. The old man with you is not dead. You have a form of godliness, but not the cleansing power of God. You can, and do, talk and write smoothly. Your words, as far as they go, may possibly be correct, but the true language of the heart is not spoken. You know this. You are thus much acquainted with yourself. Your case is perilous; yet God pities you, and will save you if you fall all broken at his feet, feeling your vileness, and impurity, and rottenness of soul, without the transforming power of God. p. 155, Para. 3, [17OT].

Do not wait til YOU think your life is about to close, lest you be like the man in the parable who said, “Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:20-21

This is a part of that that is said, “Get ready, get ready, get ready!” Christ could come this very year!

There was one more point I wanted to present from that Review & Herald of May 6, 1862.

There is no Bible sanctification for those who cast a part of the truth behind them.

To me this is the same as the application of the Christ’s righteousness to our life. It does not cover unconfessed and unforsaken sin. We are plainly told that we must repent and confess our sins that they can be blotted out of the book in the Most Holy place experience, called, the great anti-typical Day of Atonement. This is God’s appointed way. Too many run in the way of Cain and try to get to Heaven some other way!

There is light enough given in the word of God, so that none need to err. The truth is so elevated as to be admired by the greatest minds, and yet it is so simple that the humblest feeblest child of God can comprehend it, and be instructed by it. Those who see not the beauty that there is in the truth, who attach no importance to the third angel’s message, will be without excuse; for the truth is plain.

2 Cor. iv, 3, 4: “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost; in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

I never cease to be totally amazed at the hiding of the gospel; for it is hid in plain sight! And here we have the authentic Spirit of Prophecy declaring the truth, then quoting this amazing text. Everything is laid out so plainly, the exact reason and cause for the hiding is given. None can plead ignorance of the facts.

John xvii, 17, 19: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.”

1 Pet. i, 22: “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.”

2 Cor. vii, 1: “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Phil. ii, 12-15: “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you, both to will and to do his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings; that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.”

John xv, 3: “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”

Eph. v, 25-27: “Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

Here is Bible sanctification. It is not merely a show or outside work. It is sanctification received through the channel of truth. It is truth received in the heart, and practically carried out in the life.

We can be perfect. We can overcome sin in our life; all sin can be overcome. Here is how.

Every branch in the parent vine must derive life and strength from that vine, in order to yield fruit.

The only question is, will you follow in God’s appointed way?

I have made the list, under the topic of Conversion, to more nearly reflect as it states here.

Christ was wholly righteous, yet he, the Saviour of the world, gave man an example, by taking the steps himself which he requires the sinner to take to become a child of God–an heir of Heaven. p. 51, Para. 1, [26OT].

If Christ, the spotless and pure Redeemer of man, condescended to take the steps necessary for the sinner to take in conversion, why should any, with the light of truth shining upon their pathway, hesitate to submit their hearts to God, and in humility confess that they are sinners, and show their faith in the atonement of Christ by words and actions, identifying themselves with those who profess to be his followers? There will ever be those who do not live their profession, whose daily lives show them to be anything but Christians; but should this be a sufficient reason for any to refuse to put on Christ by baptism into the faith of his death and resurrection? p. 51, Para. 2, [26OT].

There are two other places where this requirement is given, the same, and in perfect harmony with the above.

The scripture he was studying was Isa. 53:7. Philip understood the desire of his heart, and preached unto him Jesus Christ revealed in prophecy, and his mission to the earth to save sinners. He showed him the steps necessary to take in conversion–repentance toward God because of transgression of the Father’s law, faith in Christ as the Saviour of men, and baptism in the likeness of his death. The eunuch’s heart was all ready to receive the light and truth, and he accepted with gladness the gospel preached by Philip. p. 304, Para. 2, [3SP ].

The descent of the Holy Ghost upon the Gentiles was not an equivalent for baptism. The requisite steps in conversion, in all cases, are faith, repentance, and baptism. Thus the true Christian church are united in one Lord, one faith, one baptism. Diverse temperaments are modified by sanctifying grace, and the same distinguishing principles regulate the lives of all. Peter yielded to the entreaties of the believing Gentiles, and remained with them for a time, preaching Jesus to all the Gentiles thereabout. p. 332, Para. 1, [3SP ].

All this then needs to be put together with the words of a vision, dated August 24, 1850.

I saw those who have been baptized as a door into the churches, would have to be baptized again as a door into the faith. Those who have not been baptized since 1844 will have to be before Jesus comes. And some I saw would not make progress till the duty was performed.

Let’s face it. This faith is not the same as the GCSDA church has, for it is the faith of their founding fathers, … which they have publicly rejected. If you accept the faith of the Advent believers who are walking on the strait and narrow path to the city, you need to repent to God, believe his word, have faith in that word and be baptized in the likeness of his death.

God will answer the prayer of faith and provide someone to baptize you.

Sabbath March 9, 2013

Notice the opening sentence.

A view given me September 7th.
At Oswego, (N.Y.), the Lord shewed me that there must be a great work done for his people before they could stand

in the battle

in the day of the Lord.

What is “the battle in the day of the Lord?”

This has to be a part of what is happening in this patient, waiting, watching, time.

I used to think this time was void of anything really major happening. WRONG!

People are born every day and die every day, physically, literally. What about spiritually?

It’s been 168 years since October 22, 1844. It’s been more than 100 years since my life started.

People must become a true Christian AND perfect a character fit for Heaven AND be sealed during their lifetime, or they will be excluded from Heaven. This is so because there is no continuation of probation after your life ends.

There is no resurrection of partial Christians before the close of probation so they can finish perfecting their character. All that must happen during their lifetime.

I am required to confess all my sins to God so that they can be forgiven and blotted out before the close of probation. This is a requirement of the anti-typical Day of Atonement. Fail here and you will be leaving unconfessed sins on the books of Heaven. This = death.

I suggest you study Christ’s righteousness from the authentic Spirit of Prophecy and a KJV Bible. Eat good bread, not a moldy mess!!!

I was pointed to those who claim to be Adventists, but reject the present truth, and saw that they were crumbling, and that the hand of the Lord was in their midst to divide and scatter them now in the gathering time,

Even though this was published in 1851, it is every wit applicable to our day. Notice the words of God. “Those who claim to be Adventists.” Not only does the GCSDA church claim the title, they have taken legal possession of the name, trying to secure it to themselves.

“But reject present truth.” Remember The Day-Star? Remember that strait and narrow path? Remember the light of the Midnight Cry? which shines, the text says “shone,” which still means to teach, “all along the path.” This means all the way to the city.

Because the SDA church has rejected this teaching light, they are off the path. They are arguing over things that God made perfectly plain to the true pioneers of this faith. They will not be taught, they will not learn, in their pride of worldly wisdom they go to man to teach them about God! These teachers are Satan’s agents and they know it not.

So it is that they are crumbling and God is in their midst dividing and scattering; even now in the gathering time!!!

so that the precious jewels among them, that have formerly been deceived, may have their eyes opened to see their true state. And now when the truth is presented to them by the Lord’s messengers, they will be prepared to listen, and see its beauty and harmony, and leave their former associates, and errors, and embrace the precious truth, and stand where they can define their position. p. 57, [CEV].

Want a call out? It doesn’t get any better than this! Grab your KJV Bible, load up e-Sword, download for free a set of the authentic Spirit of Prophecy, get serious about your own future with your Creator and Maker, let the sun shine on you, walk in the light of the moon, bathe in rivers of butter and honey, listen not to the wave’s roar, have his rod and staff comfort you, receive peace, accept mercy, embrace grace, live in love, enjoy joy, be of those that receive him and take the power he offers to become… the sons of God.

Sabbath December 22, 2012

Reflecting Christ’s image is required.

I also saw that many did not realize what they must be in order to live in the sight of the Lord, without a High Priest in the Sanctuary, through the time of trouble. Those who receive the seal of the living God, and are protected in the time of trouble, must reflect the image of Jesus fully. p. 30, Para. 4, [CEV].

Here are some interesting texts on the subject that I never noticed before.

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, Romans 8:29-30

And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 1 Corinthians 15:44-50

…the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Corinthians 4:4

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Colossians 1:12-17

And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Colossians 3:8-10

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Hebrews 1:1-3

Without going into the hidden treasure at all, it is very plain about the importance of being in Christ’s image.

Those who corrupt their own bodies cannot enjoy the favor of God, until they sincerely repent, make an entire reform, and perfect holiness in the fear of the Lord. None can be Christians and indulge in habits which debilitate the system, and bring on a state of prostration of the vital forces, which end in making a complete wreck of beings formed in the image of God. This moral pollution will certainly bring its reward. The cause must bring the results. Those who profess to be disciples of Christ should be elevated in all their thoughts and acts, and should ever realize that they are fitting for immortality, and that if saved, they must be without spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing. Their Christian character must be without a blemish, or they will be pronounced unfit to be taken to a holy heaven, to dwell with pure, sinless beings in God’s everlasting kingdom. p. 29, Para. 2, [APM].

If we are formed in God’s image to start with, it must be sin that de–forms us. This passage nicely gives us the steps to get back to that image.

It is a journey however, one that will put you into the dream of No. 20, pages 28-32. Check it out, you just might find it interesting.

Wednesday December 5, 2012

The other day…. I was out gathering firewood, as I lifted a large piece of wood, it felt light. As I pondered that, suddenly a chain of thoughts came pouring through.

The wood was lightweight because it was dead.

It was also light because it was dry, it had no water in it.

Christ said, “For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?” Luke 23:31

And I realized that I was learning through nature, just like John the Baptist did.

He subjected himself to privation and solitude in the wilderness where he could preserve by sacred sense of the majesty of God, by studying his great book of nature and there becoming acquainted with the character of God, in his wonderful works. It was an atmosphere calculated to perfect moral culture and keep the fear of the Lord continually before him. John, the forerunner of Christ, did not expose himself to evil conversation and the corrupting influences of the world. He feared its effects upon his conscience, that sin might not appear to him so exceedingly sinful. He chose rather to have his home in the wilderness, where his senses would not be perverted by his surroundings. Should we not learn something from this example of one whom Christ honored and of whom he said, Among those born of women there are none greater than John the Baptist. p. 152, Para. 3, [26OT].

I had read about this and similar years ago, but I just could not understand how it was that one could learn about God’s character through nature, even though I spent a lot of time in nature.

Now it’s become clear. First you must become truly converted, otherwise you will be called a “strange child.” You must be faced with God’s law and understand that you are a sinner and have a great need of redemption. Then you must confess your sins before God and ask for forgiveness. Next is baptism. You have now become a child of God, willing to be instructed by the Holy Ghost in the things of God, the things that are hidden from the seekers, because they want Heaven and the world. You can not have both.

Because you have chosen the strait and narrow way, the exact same way Christ walked while he lived on earth. Right? It’s overcoming as he overcame. But that overcoming process is also a process of being taught of God. In the above passage from No. 26, the phrase “the fear of the Lord” means, the instruction of the Lord.

God created the plan of Salvation. It is his “appointed way.” This is a term used about 12 times in the original, authenticated Spirit of Prophecy. Any one, using any way, other than God’s appointed way, trying to do spiritual things, is outside of God’s plan. This is very dangerous.

The hidden treasure is a major part of God’s appointed way. It is hidden in plain sight. This is God’s plan to prevent those from being in Heaven who should not be happy there. And it works by God reading the hearts of men, and opening to them that it is given, their understanding of dark sayings, parables, the mystery of Godliness, hid from the wicked by being right in front of them, “that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.” Mark 4:12

Belief and faith in God and in his promise to instruct us; an understanding of the hidden treasure, that the Bible was so designed by God to be it’s own dictionary and define it’s own terms without the supposed wisdom of the learned men of the world; a heart and mind that is right before God, not self-deceived nor double-minded, but asking, seeking and knocking after truth with the explicit purpose of being obedient to it; these, I have found, are the keys to being instructed by the Holy Ghost.

So a green tree represents Christ and his followers, a dry tree represents the wicked, they are spiritually dead, they have no living water, hence are “light” and with out weight.

Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 23:32

Sunday November 11, 2012

I found a verse, and with it came other thoughts. I began to wonder. Could it be?

And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;  15  I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.  16  So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.  17  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:  18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.  19  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.  20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.  22  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Revelation 3:14-22

Why is it that Laodicea does not open the door? Using e-Sword I did some searching on door, and found a definition, for here is how God communicates with man.

If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door.  Genesis 4:7

Properly spiritually understood, for Laodicea to open the door, would be opening up the sin of our lives to God’s examination.

It would be an horrible admission that…

1.) We are not, in fact, rich in spiritual discernment

2.) We are deceived (!!!)

3.) We actually need desperately have to have a saviour

4.) We are indeed lost

5.) We are just like the stupid sheep

Arguh! I hate that!!

It’s my pride. What will people think if they know that I have been deceived? all this time. What will people in the church think if they know I’m really a lost soul? What will my friends think if they find out I am a sinner?

Surly I can find a place to hide. There must be a pastor out there who will preach the church’s truth, his truth, my truth, something to calm me down. This is rough stuff. I need smooth things. And that is where I’ll send my money.

All this harping on people’s sins is not helping.

Or is it?

But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.  Romans 10:21

And because I can not say it better….

Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?  Jeremiah 27:13

Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?  Ezekiel 18:31

Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?  Ezekiel 33:11

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool Isaiah 1:18

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.  Revelation 22:17

This excerpt from No. 23 is one I have used several times and you will recognize parts of it. But I just noticed something that, although marked, has not really come into focus for me. One of the great burning questions in my mind relates to the SDA church organization, members included, and what our relation should be to them.

This passage seems to have at least a partial answer. I am putting the passage here, complete, for contextual understanding. However, I consider the entire first 71 pages of this number to be a very important section that all should become familiar with. With that in mind we begin.

Many Doubt Our [both James & Ellen] Work. p. 11, Para. 4, [23OT].

Many are tempted in regard to our work, and are calling it in question. Some, in their tempted condition, charge the difficulties and perplexities of the people of God to the testimonies of reproof we have given to them. The trouble they think is with the ones who bear the message of warning, [Just like Ahab accusing Elijah] pointing out the sins and correcting the errors of the people. I was shown that many are deceived by the adversary of souls. They think that the labors of Bro. and Sister White would be acceptable if they would not be continually condemning wrong, and reproving sin. I was shown that this work God had laid upon us. [Again, both James & Ellen] When we are hindered from meeting with the people of God, and bearing our testimony, and counteracting the surmisings and jealousies of the unconsecrated, then Satan presses in his temptations very strongly. Those who have been ever on the questioning, doubting side, feel at liberty to suggest their doubts, and will insinuate, their unbelief. Some have sanctimonious, apparently conscientious and very pious, doubts, which they will cautiously drop, which has tenfold more power to strengthen those who are wrong and to lesson our influence and weaken the confidence of God’s people in our work, than if they came out more frankly. These poor souls, I saw, were deceived by Satan. They flatter themselves that they are all right, and in favor with God, rich in spiritual discernment, when they are blind, poor, and wretched. They are doing the work of Satan, and thinking they have a zeal for God. p. 11, Para. 5, [23OT].

Some will not receive the testimony God has given us to bear, flattering themselves we may be deceived, and they are right. They think the people of God are not in need of plain dealing and of reproof, and that God is with them. These tempted ones, whose souls have ever been at war with the faithful reproving of sin, would cry, Speak unto us smooth things. What disposition will these make of the message of the True Witness to the Laodiceans? There can be no deception here. This message must be borne to a lukewarm church by God’s servants.

Right here is the message I missed before. This message must be borne to Laodicea. And, it must be borne by the 144,000!!! For the phrase “God’s servants” is a defining phrase of the 144,000 used in Revelation 7:3. Now the question is, “When?” But there is no answer given, which I take to mean that this is a part of the on-going process of the shaking. We look for it to intensify as time goes on.

This message must arouse the people of God from their security and dangerous deception in regard to their real standing before God. This testimony, if received, will arouse to action, and lead to self-abasement, and confessions of sins.

I expect all the honest in heart to respond to the truth presented.

The True Witness says, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot.” And again, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.” Then comes the promise, “Beloved, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, ever as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” p. 12, Para. 1, [23OT].

These wrongs and sins, which have brought the people of God in their state of wretchedness, blindness, and poverty, must be seen, and they arouse to zealous repentance, and a putting away of these sins which have brought them into such a deplorable condition of blindness and fearful deception. p. 13, Para. 1, [23OT].

I have been shown that the pointed testimony must live in the church. And this alone will answer to the message to the Laodiceans. Wrongs must be reproved, sins must be called sins, and iniquity must be met promptly and decidedly, and put away from us as a people. p. 13, Para. 2, [23OT].
