As we think of the Loud Cry and the Latter Rain, the 1858 Great Controversy comes to mind, page 186. We discussed this a bit yesterday. In particular this is where the word refreshing is added to the Loud Cry and the Latter Rain. We understand through Isaiah 28:12 that this Refreshing is the spiritual understanding of God’s words.

The last part of that verse says “yet they would not hear.” This implies listening. Not the casual listening of everyday sound waves entering our ears. This implies a listening to this other tongue. It implies allowing and accepting God’s teachings and definitions of his own words.

I’m sure you remember God’s method of teaching using parallel phrases. Notice what God is saying in this verse.

I will pour out my spirit unto you,
I will make known my words unto you. Proverbs 1:23

Very clearly, very carefully God is teaching that the out-pouring of the Holy Ghost is the same as God making known his words to us. BUT THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WERE TAUGHT!!!

You are exactly right! As with so many other things I learned in a lifetime of growing up in an apostate church, so many of the members working hand in hand with Satan and know it not! See No. 23, page 101.

We must re-learn many important truths, things we thought were so solid, yet, the authentic Spirit of Prophecy proves them to be the devices of Satan and we were deceived! Our only hope of life is to cling to Christ and follow him.

Notice the words in the following passages. Especially note the relationship between the two items, refreshing and latter rain, as highlighted.

I was pointed down to the time when the third angel’s message was closing. The power of GOD had rested upon his people. They had accomplished their work, and were prepared for the trying hour before them. They had received the latter rain, or refreshing from the presence of the LORD, and the living testimony had been revived. The last great warning had sounded everywhere, and it had stirred up and enraged the inhabitants of earth, who would not receive the message. p. 197, Para. 1, [GC58].

At that time, [since October 23, 1844] while the work of salvation is closing, [see No. 23, page 22] trouble will be coming on the earth, the nations will be angry, yet held in check, so as not to prevent the work of the third angel. At that time the “latter rain,” or refreshing from the presence of the Lord, will come, to give power to the loud voice of the third angel, and prepare the saints to stand in the period when the seven last plagues shall be poured out. p. 3, Para. 4, [SUPCEV].

This is a process that began with Hiram Edson’s vision in the corn field, it’s called the third angel’s message. October 23, 1844 began the time of the end, for this gospel of the kingdom has been preached in all the world at the first angel’s message.

We see this process of the refreshing similar to a manufacturing process. The term process usually encompasses a lot of details, some more intense than others. Glass is run through a process to make jars. It must first be melted, then formed, then cooled, then boxed, then warehoused before shipping. In one simple sentence we covered the process, but there is much more in that process.

Read No. 23, page 22 and note that there are four processes brought to view, the living testimony, the closing work for the church, the sealing time of the 144,000, the slaughtering time of Ezekiel 9, all brought to view in a very few lines.

In the yet future, the processes of “the latter rain; the refreshing from the presence of the Lord; the loud cry of the third angel, will be increased and expanded greatly, “with ten times the power.” See Spalding and Magan, pages 1-4.

Tomorrow we will show more.

In the 1858 Great Controversy, on page 186, we have a portion of the illustration of the Shaking being presented to us. God told us in The Present Truth, No. 9, page 78, global paging, that “the mighty shaking has commenced, and will go on,….”

After this description, in the 1858 Great Controversy, a change is seen to come over the saints.

I asked what had made this great change. An angel answered , It is the latter rain; the refreshing from the presence of the Lord; the loud cry of the third angel.

Let’s look more closely at what the angel said.

It is:
1.) the latter rain
2.) the refreshing
3.) the loud cry

I have re-arraigned the phrases to allow us to better identify what is what. It is clear that a great change happened to the saints. It is also clear that the angel is giving an answer of truth.

The answer is not what we were taught it was. All three items are one and the same, but also separately identifiable parts. The vision was given January 26, 1850. This means that this process, called the Shaking, has been on-going since that time. This means that some portion of the strength of each of these three items has been at play every time someone stood up and spoke truth to the church.

No one does this of himself. This is done by the power of God upon the speaker; and the servant of God, under the influence of this three-fold power, speaks out the living testimony to an apostate church, who does not understand the voice of the latter rain, the refreshing, the loud cry, and so they cast out the speaker, go back inside and pray to God to help them understand the Shaking, which they are studying in their Sabbath School lesson.

Deep in apostasy and rebellion against God and they know it not! And they can hardly wait till sundown so they can have that church beach party, or Halloween party, &c. Such would never enjoy Heaven and so will not be there.

I have often heard about the latter rain and the loud cry, but never the refreshing, until after leaving the church and learning the value of the 1858 Great Controversy. This engenders the question, “What is the refreshing?”

For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. Isaiah 28:10-12

So it is this “other tongue” that is called “stammering lips” that is what the refreshing is. It is God’s spiritual words spiritually understood.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23

Why is the Father seeking such to worship him? Is it not because he wants to speak to them in the language of Heaven? It seems so. He wants to commune with them in spiritual words of truth. But he can not do this if they will not understand. Therefore we study Bible words spiritually understood.

This is the other tongue, the stammering lips that all the world calls ridiculous; it is spiritual words spiritually understood.

The multi-generational patient, waiting, watching time is a severe trial for some. As I have watched people getting closer and closer to the grave, it’s as if they are striving to find the one doctrine that proves they will not die. My own father did such. I remember his thoughts about the wheat being harvested while it was standing, not fallen down, thus a person is not dead.

James White avows his conviction that he would be of that group that would watch Christ come in the clouds because he had seen the falling of the stars in 1833. He was correct that he would be a part of that group and that he would watch Christ come in the clouds of angels; he just did not know at that time that he would be called from the grave by the voice of the Father, and he would watch as Christ came in the clouds, and he would be a part of the 144,000.

Can Christ come this year? The correct answer is yes! We are going to look at some comments by James to get a better handle on this matter. We will be using some excerpts from Life Incidents.

Seventh-day Adventists have nothing to boast of. God has often reproved and chastised us for unfaithfulness. And when we have returned to him, and humbly and faithfully battle for the truth, amid reproaches and persecutions, he has greatly blessed us. Nothing is so much to be dreaded as that calm which is the result of tempering unpopular, testing truth to the ears of the people so as not to offend. Rather let the reproach come, and the storm rage, if it be the result of speaking the truth of God in love. p. 336, Para. 1, [LIFE].

As a people we have had our difficulties to surmount, our trials to bear, and our victories to gain. We are gathered from Methodists, Regular Baptists, Freewill Baptists, Seventh-day Baptists, Presbyterians, Congregationalists, Worldlings, and Infidels. We are composed of native Americans, English, Welsh, Scotch, Irish, French, Germans, Norwegians, Danes, Swedes, Poles, and others. To bring together a body composed of such material, affected more or less by the religious sentiments and forms of the several denominations, with all their national peculiarities, has called for much patient, and persevering toil. And it is by the grace of God that we are what we are. And let his name be praised that in our darkest hours, when we have humbled ourselves, he has ever come to our aid. p. 336, Para. 2, [LIFE].

From their past brief history Seventh-day Adventists may learn much as to their present work and future prospects. When in humility they have borne a decided testimony in the fear of God, their labors have been signally blessed. When they have been willing to bear the cross of present truth, and sacrifice time, convenience and means to advance the work, they have shared the approving smiles of Heaven. They have seen that nothing can keep the body in a healthy condition but the plain and pointed testimony. This will do the work of purification, either by purging their sins, or separating from them the unconsecrated and rebellious. Let the result be what it may, such testimony must be borne, or this people will fall as others have fallen. And terrible would be their fall, after having so clear light, and having had committed to them so sacred a trust as the last message of mercy to sinners. p. 336, Para. 3, [LIFE].

From the past we may also learn what to expect in the future, in the line of persecution. Satan has been angry because this people have been seeking for the “old paths,” that they might walk therein. He has been especially disturbed as they have plead for the restoration of the Sabbath, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. If the people be taught that God is testing them upon the Sabbath, and that they should listen to the testimony of Jesus, in the spirit of prophecy, which reproves their sins, and calls on them to consecrate themselves and what they possess to the Lord, we may depend upon it, the ire of the dragon will be stirred. This we have witnessed and suffered in proportion to our faithfulness in the work. When we have borne a pointed testimony, we have been the especial objects of the wrath of the dragon; but with it have also shared largely the blessing of God. When we have been unfaithful, the dragon has been comparatively quiet, but we have suffered leanness of soul. And thus we may expect it will be for time to come. p. 337, Para. 1, [LIFE].

The position of suspense is not the most happy one. Those who wait for the return of the Lord in uncertainty as to the definite period of his second advent, are in danger of becoming restless. Hence the application of certain texts to this time, and to the people who are waiting for their Lord. “Ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” Heb. x, 36. “Be ye also patient, stablish your hearts; for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.” James v, 8. “Here is the patience of the saints, here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Rev. xiv, 12. p. 337, Para. 2, [LIFE].

In such a position, how natural the often-repeated inquiry, “How long before the Lord will come?” But no definite answer can be given to this inquiry. And it is best that this question cannot be definitely answered. Definite time has answered the purpose of God. It brought the Advent people to the waiting time, requiring great patience. Throughout this entire period of the patience of the saints, the only safe position is to keep the coming of Christ ever before us, and to regulate all our acts in full view of the terrible realities of the Judgment. To put off the coming of the Lord, and view that event in the distance, and enter into the spirit of the world, would be dangerous in the extreme. It is true that there are prophecies to be fulfilled, just prior to the coming of the Lord; but their fulfillment is of such a nature that it can be realized in a short time. Unbelief may suggest that as the time has continued longer than the waiting ones expected, it may still continue many years. But saving faith takes the safe position, and views the event at the door. This fact should ever be borne in mind, that while we have no means of showing that the Lord will come at an immediate definite point, no one can prove that he may not very soon come. And while it cannot be proved that the Lord will not very soon come, I call attention to the following facts which show that the second advent cannot be a distant event. p. 338, Para. 1, [LIFE].

As further proof of yesterday’s posted position, we present this unpublished manuscript, and as such it is not yet authenticated. A couple of lines were published, see the reference, but not the rest. Interestingly, I had a copy of this manuscript from another source, but I have no idea how they got it. It must have been released to some specific purpose and was leaked to others. I am not knowing.

This was talked about the other day on this post which details how the White Estate lied about a line missing from the text, which was not missing. What this document does do is state explicitly that we are in the investigative judgment. You decide.

Manuscript 1, 1857.
Written in June, somewhere in Vermont. This manuscript is titled, “ Lack o f Appreciatio n o f t he M inistry” , Portions of this manuscript appear in Last Day Events, pp. 234-235.

I was shown some things concerning the preaching brethren. I saw their energies and strength were exhausted in laboring for a church that does not generally appreciate their labors. I saw that it would be better for the church to be thrown upon their own effort for a time. I saw they must be laborers. I saw that the principal part of Bro. Hutchins’ and Bro. Sperry’s labor has been to keep the church together. They have taken the burden of the church upon themselves, to dig around it, labor and labor for them until the church would, after the brethren had gotten a little victory, enjoy it, but make scarcely any effort for it themselves, in a few weeks are sleepy and need the same effort made for them again. They tire and exhaust the strength of the worn-out servants of God. Again the servants of God plow through and get a little victory,  to be lost as easily as before. But when, with their own faith and wrestling with God, they obtain the victory, then it is lasting. They know then how much it costs, and they will preserve their consecration. I saw that so much of the efforts of these brethren should not be spent upon a world-loving and sleepy church. I saw that those who have not yet embraced the truth are anxious to hear, and these brethren should go where, at the present time, they can accomplish the most good with their feeble strength.

The church must arise. They do not half heed the message to the Laodicean church. There are those in the church who love this world better than they love Jesus. They love their treasures here better than they love heaven or eternal life, and with their earthly treasure they will perish. The True Witness now speaks to a lukewarm church. Be zealous and repent; but they scarcely hear or heed the message. A few are afflicting their souls. A few are heeding the counsel of the True Witness. Unless the church speedily arouses they will go into darkness, be ensnared and overcome by the enemy.

I saw we are in the investigative judgment. Soon judgment will be pronounced on our works and our actions which are passing in review before God. A solemn, awful period! Who realize this great work? I saw that those who do not now appreciate, study, and dearly prize the Word of God, spoken by His servants, will have cause to mourn bitterly hereafter.

I saw that the Lord in judgment will, at the close of time, walk through the earth; the fearful plagues will begin to fall. Then those who have despised God’s Word, those who have lightly esteemed it, shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the Word of the Lord and shall not find it. A famine is in the land for hearing the Word. The ministers of God will have done their last work, offered their last prayers, shed their last bitter tear for a rebellious church and an ungodly people. Their last solemn warning has been given.

O then how quickly would houses and lands, dollars that have been miserly hoarded and cherished and tightly grasped, be given for some consolation by those who have professed the truth and have not lived it out, for the way of salvation to be explained or to hear a hopeful word, or a prayer, or an exhortation from their ministers. But no, they must hunger and thirst on in vain; their thirst will never be quenched, no consolation can they get; their cases are decided and eternally fixed. It is a fearful, awful time. There can much be done now to bring in those jewels who are hid beneath the rubbish, who will highly prize the truth as it falls from the lips of God’s servants.

I was shown that many of the church have at this time of peril more care for their farm and their cattle than they have for the servants of God, or the truth which they preach; their labors are so common among them that the laborers are not considered worthy of their hire. His strength must be exhausted, his life embittered by scarcely a well day, must spend and be spent, and yet the church asleep as to these things.

But I saw that God was not asleep. Said the angel, Jesus says, I know thy works; yes, selfish, professed Sabbath-keepers. God knows thy works. Ye covetous, world-loving Sabbath-keepers, said the angel, God knows thy works. I saw that every privation the servants of God have endured are all written in the book, every tear is bottled up. Every pang of agony they have endured is recorded in the book. I know thy works, says the True Witness. All that has been done to help the servants of God is all recorded; all of it is written in the book. All the selfish withholding from God’s servants are all written in the book. All thy deeds, said the angel, are passing in review before God.

I saw that the church now must afflict their souls. They must labor, they must agonize or go down. I saw it was best to leave the churches to work for themselves now, that they may feel their weakness while there is a chance for them to zealously repent and buy gold, white raiment, and eye salve, the treasures they must possess if they would have eternal life.

It is amazing to me all the twists and turns that the counterfeit SOP takes, creating “confusion and every evil work,” which is exactly where the church is today. These smooth things are designed to comfort those who are not really interested in Heaven anyway, they are just along for the social experience.

Today we have two items from the counterfeit SOP. This is the smooth stuff.

12-15 (chs. 3:5; 13:8; 21:27; 22:19). The Book of Life.–When we become children of God, our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life, and they remain there until the time of the investigative judgment. Then the name of every individual will be called, and his record examined, by Him who declares, “I know thy works.” If in that day it shall appear that all our wicked deeds have not been fully repented of, our names will be blotted from the book of life, and our sins will stand against us (ST Aug. 6, 1885). {7BC 987.6}

Notice how the above statement is framed. Notice the details of the words. This statement places the investigative judgment in the future... somewheretime. Most studying SDAs understand that the investigative judgment started October 22, 1844, when Christ went into the Most Holy place. His ministration ended in the Holy and a different ministration was taken up in the Most Holy.

The investigative judgment is part of Christ’s ministration in the Most Holy in the anti-typical Day of Atonement. This is a correct understanding of the shut door and why it is that that door is shut, forever, never to be opened again. This is so because Christ’s ministration is illustrated by that term door, which he will never go back and do again.

Each one in the day of investigative Judgment will stand in character as he really is; he will render an individual account to God. Every word uttered, every departure from integrity, every action that sullies the soul, will be weighed in the balances of the sanctuary. Memory will be true and vivid in condemnation of the guilty one, who in that day is found wanting. The mind will recall all the thoughts and acts of the past; the whole life will come in review like the scenes in a panorama. Thus every one will be condemned or acquitted out of his own mouth, and the righteousness of God will be vindicated. {RH, November 4, 1884 par. 11}

In the above paragraph the same sentiment is expressed through implication. We are informed that the investigative judgment is somewheretime in the future, so don’t worry about it now. But this is the very problem with many important truths for these last days, they are NOT in future, they are current and will remain current to the close of probation.

The placing of these events, the investigative judgment, the shaking, the end of Matthew 24:14, the sealing time of the 144,000, the message to the Laodiceans, the saints being perfected now, and others, into some ethereal future time is really a cry of peace and safety for the present. And that present is the same whenever that message is preached.

A correct understanding of what it is to walk on the strait and narrow pathway, all the way to the City, will bring a correct understanding of the true position of all these events. Those obedient to the light will grow in their understanding of all these events and at last be prepared for the grave or translation.

This work of correcting wrongs, calling liars liars, tearing down the high walls of Jericho to expose the false foundations of many generations, is not easy. Unfortunately there is a distance between me, through this site, and you, wherever you may be. We pray that God will fill that distance and provide the ‘touch’ missing between the words and the reader.

We fully believe the following words apply in every case.

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him John 6:44

May God draw you to the truth is our prayer. But many are offended at the position we take and labor to turn others from the truth. God is no stranger to all this. He counsels us.

If persons are as deserving to be separated from the church as Satan was of being cast out of Heaven, they will have sympathizers. There is always a class who are more influenced by individuals than they are controlled by the Spirit of God and sound principles; and they are, in their unconsecrated state, ever ready to take up upon the wrong side, and give their pity and sympathy to the very ones who least deserve it. These sympathizers have a powerful influence with others, and things are seen in a perverted light, and great harm is done, and many souls ruined. Satan, in his rebellion, took a third part of the angels. They turned from the Father and from his Son, and united with the instigator of rebellion. With these facts before us, we should move with the greatest caution. What can we expect in our connection with men and women with peculiar minds but trials and perplexity. We must bear this, and avoid the necessity of rooting up the tares, lest the wheat be rooted up also. p. 174, Para. 2, [21OT].

In the world ye shall have tribulation, but in me ye shall have peace. The trials to which Christians are subjected in sorrow, adversity, and reproach, are the appointed means of God to separate the chaff from the wheat. Our selfishness, love of worldly pleasure, evil passions, and pride, must be all overcome, and therefore God sends us afflictions to test and prove us, and show us that these evils exist in our characters; and we must, through his strength and grace, overcome, that we may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. “For our light affliction,” says Paul, “which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Afflictions, crosses, temptations, adversity, and our varied trials, are God’s workmen to refine us, sanctify us, and fit us for the heavenly garner. p. 175, Para. 1, [21OT].

We strive to hold high the banner of truth and hold out the hand of help. Many, very many will never get on the Ark, only eight did. This reminds us of a text.

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Luke 18:8

We pray that you will be one of the faithful that will “prove all things” and “hold fast that which is good.”

Please feel free to ask any questions and get the answers. Most everything we have ever discovered is discussed here, on the site or on the blog. Our purpose is to bring everything into the light of day and give you the tools to make your own decision. We believe that Heaven will be populated by choice, a free choice of each one there.

I’m not finished with this argument of convenience, context.

It really amazes me how people can read something that is an obvious lie, like “Upon it’s summit His feet will rest when He shall come again,” (Desire of Ages, p. 830) and, as in yesterday’s example, want everyone to jump through hoops to explain away what it says.

About this very passage a man writes, …

I have read and re-read the passage in DA many times, and I believe it’s talking about the time when Christ comes back with all the saints after the 1000 years, and there will be millions of Hebrews and Gentiles all together praising God for His amazing goodness. The phrase “come again” may be understood in different ways. But knowing Ellen White’s teachings, we know she did not teach that Christ will set foot on the earth at His second coming. She clearly states that Christ will not set foot on earth until after the 1000 years are finished. This means the words “when He shall come again” refer to the time when Christ shall come again for the second time. “Come again” need not only refer to the first return of Christ for His Church. He will also “come again” when He returns with His people after the thousand years.

In the first place opinion is opinion, not fact. The sentence is claimed to be authored by God, that’s right and you can read that for yourself in the R&H of January 20, 1903, page 15, left column, first paragraph break up from the bottom. I’ll put it here.

Sister White is not the originator of these books.

This is another argument of convenience for the church. When it suits their purpose they claim just what it says above and when it suits their purposes in another direction they claim to know the proper definition of inspiration, then proceed to tell you that Ellen was indeed the author.

Back to this man. He tells us that “the phrase “come again” may be understood in different ways.” No kidding!? To take up his position, let’s take any other two word set from the same sentence and they can also “be understood in different ways!” This is a ridiculous argument.

The sentence reads the way it reads, the way it was written. To dismantle the thing and cry context, to sanction a lie, is just wrong. This is not scholarly, it’s childish.

Now watch as this man tries to pull the rabbit out of the hat.

She clearly states that Christ will not set foot on earth until after the 1000 years are finished. This means the words “when He shall come again” refer to the time when Christ shall come again for the second time.

Notice how, as stated yesterday, context is expanded at will, it’s an argument of convenience. He goes to every other place, mentally here, no references listed, which is ok, pulls out the truth and then claims that that truth sanctions the lie. It does not.

This is the very point I am making about the argument of context being used to sanction a lie. Which is also the very point we are continually making on this site, there is a counterfeit! And just like counterfeit money, people will spend it until it is busted for what it really is.

That is what we are doing, busting the counterfeit SOP and proving the lie. God tells us in no uncertain words that when Christ comes again he will not touch the earth, but we will meet him in the air. That is the truth and no one has to jump through hoops to understand it!!!

It’s usually the overly sophisticated that have such a hard time with the things we prove here. And for the record, though it really needn’t be said, we wrote none of these books and papers, we are only reading and saying, “Hey! look at what I found!” But the opposition would claim that this is all wrong, as we have shown here today.

Prove all things, your eternal life is at stake.

Context. It seems almost as if everyone is screaming CONTEXT! Yet this is but the lie of Satan and it is harvesting it’s millions.

Many people come and look at this site and can not reconcile the conflicts in the alleged writings of Ellen G. White. With good reason. So they go ask their pastor, which is reasonable, but all too often people are giving up their own decision making ability. And I understand that. It’s difficult to be watching TV and trying to be “religious” all at the same time; I mean it’s distracting.

I came across an interesting truism some time back. I seems to fit here.

What is proven trumps what is claimed, everything else is just commentary.

We are going to take a look at this “in context” argument that so many are shouting about these days. In my opinion it is nothing more than an argument of convenience. Here is why and an example. In Desire of Ages on page 568, ten lines up from the bottom, it declares plainly that “He [Christ] is to-day [meaning every day] standing at the altar of incense….”

This statement is a lie of Satan. I’m going to show you some arguments from another who claims to understand context. Here they are.

I’ve already shown how Christ’s Day of Atonement ministry also involves work in the Holy Place, … Figuratively, Christ still performs all the “Daily” ministry as well, so that He can be portrayed as before the altar of incense if the context is the ministry of Christ in terms of our prayers. … the Day of Atonement ministry involves several movements from Courtyard to Most Holy Place … Jesus is truly standing in front of the altar of incense every time He performs the ministry over prayer.

In considering the various arguments it is important to understand where the professed believer stands in his understanding of inspiration. So many people in and out of the church believe that Ellen was the author of everything with her name on it. But as we show on this site, it is not so.

Back to the argument, look at this man’s understanding. This is the most ridiculous argument for an SDA to make, it almost trumps Vance Ferrell’s on the same point. Here are his words. Notice how he leads off on the context, again.

The context is speaking about Christ’s great love and care for His erring earthly children. Ellen is so filled with feeling that she waxes eloquent with powerful symbolic language to illustrate her meaning: “pour out the vials of His wrath,” “wipe this dark spot,” “standing at the altar of incense,” turn to Him for refuge,” “strife of tongues,” “impeach these souls.” Notice the final sentence: They stand beside their Sin Bearer, “in the light proceeding from the throne of God.” That light is not now in the first apartment, which is blocked by a veil from God’s glory in the second. So, by faith, they are standing by Him in the second, not the first, apartment. The Teachings of Vern Bates, by Vance Ferrell, about 2007.

Notice the hoops these people have to jump through to attempt to explain away a direct lie. This is the stuff of the counterfeit SOP. How many times have you heard people talk about the deceptions of Satan, that they are truth mixed with a little error, or a lot, if you like.

By the use of the argument of convenience, context, people can claim what they please, all they have to do is enlarge the context to include what they need.

If they want context, then let’s meet them with context! But, we will take the same privilege they claim, we will set the bounds of context for our own arguments. Why limit context to just a few lines in one book? after all, this is really all about the Great Controversy between Christ and his angels and Satan and his angels.

Therefore the real context is all about this six thousand year old Great Controversy. In this real true context we can see much more clearly in the light of day. We can get the scope of the whole context. So lets see what God has to say that bears on the subject.

God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. Deuteronomy 8:3

Every word of God is pure: Proverbs 30:5

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: Deuteronomy 32:4

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: 2 Samuel 22:31

your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48

Now, looking at these matters in the really true context of the Great Controversy, we find that God is perfect, does a perfect work, and every word of his is perfect.

It’s not just the sentence, it’s not just the phrase, oh no, it’s every word. When you have a prefect God, putting perfect words together, you get a perfect work, which is exactly what the Bible declares, and is.

The authentic Spirit of Prophecy is exactly the same, for God himself is the true author, not Ellen. She was not intelligent enough to have produced the highly sophisticated works of the Spirit of Prophecy. The perfect harmony between it and the Bible is testimony to God’s authorship.

How many places in the Bible are we required to jump through the hoops that the counterfeit SOP requires? None!

The really true context, that of the Great Controversy between Christ and his angels and Satan and his angels, is that from which we will work.

In the second part of The Day-Star is a very interesting writing of Satan’s work of deception. We have visited this passage often in the past and today there is an important point of light that has come which we will look at.

We have just done some posts on the subject of perfection. In particular note this post, for Friday June 7th, for a quick review. This man, SDA Pastor Gifford Rhamie is teaching “in the Hebrew concept of perfection, there is no understanding of flawlessness, or sinlessness” “however we understand the word perfect today we have injected this notion of flawlessness and sinlessness.”

This man is simply parroting what he learned in seminary, which was from counterfeited Greek and Hebrew documents, which is wrong. Thus the importance of the KJV Bible.

This concept of perfection is critical to understand, especially with regard to our duty since October 22, 1844. That date began the great anti-typical Day of Atonement. Let’s review The Day-Star.

I saw a throne, and on it sat the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. I gazed on Jesus’ countenance and admired his lovely person. The Fathers person I could not behold for a cloud of glorious light covered him. I asked Jesus if his Father had a form like himself; He said he had, but I could not behold it; for, said he, if you should for once see the glory of his person, you would cease to exist.
Before the throne was the Advent people, the Church, and the world. [Notice there are three groups, not two] I saw a company bowed down before the throne, deeply interested while most of them stood up disinterested and careless. Those who were bowed before the throne would offer up their prayers and look to Jesus, then he would look to his Father and appeared to be pleading with him.
Then a light came from the Father to his Son and from him to the praying company. Then I saw an exceeding bright light come from the Father to the Son and from the Son it waved over the people before the throne. But few would receive this great light. Many came out from under it and immediately resisted it. Others were careless and did not cherish the light and it moved off from them. Some cherished it and went and bowed down before the throne with the little praying company. This company all received the light, and rejoiced in it as their countenances shone with its glory.

This light appears to be the first and second angel’s messages. It’s a bit condensed in this vision.

Then I saw the Father rise from the throne and in a flaming chariot go into the Holy of Holies within the vail, and did sit.

This means that the Father was in the Holy place with Christ. On October 22, 1844 the Father went into the Most Holy before Christ did.

There I saw thrones which I had not seen before. Then Jesus rose up from the throne, and most of those who were bowed down rose up with him. And I did not see one ray of light pass from Jesus to the careless multitude after he rose up, and they were left in perfect darkness.

This is true of all the Protestant churches. They have absolutely no understanding of the Sanctuary message at all. They have no knowledge of where Christ is now.

Those who rose up when Jesus did [the Advent people], kept their eyes fixed on him as he left the throne, and led them out a little way, then he raised his right arm and we heard his lovely voice saying, wait ye, I am going to my Father to receive the Kingdom. Keep your garments spotless and in a little while I will return from the wedding, and receive you to myself.
And I saw a cloudy chariot with wheels like flaming fire. Angels were all about the chariot as it came where Jesus was; he stepped into it and was borne to the Holiest where the Father sat. Then I beheld Jesus as he was before the Father a great High Priest. On the hem of his garment was a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate. Then Jesus shewed me the difference between faith and feeling.

Now that we have the proper background, we move on to the critical point of this study.

And I saw those who rose up with Jesus send up their faith to Jesus in the Holiest, and praying, Father give us thy spirit. Then Jesus would breathe on them the Holy Ghost. In the breath was light, power and much love, joy and peace.
Then I turned to look at the company who were still bowed before the throne [in the Holy place]. They did not know that Jesus had left it. Satan appeared to be by the throne trying to carry on the work of God. I saw them look up to the throne and pray, My Father give us thy spirit. Then Satan would breathe on them an unholy influence. In it there was light and much power, but no sweet love, joy and peace. Satan’s object was to keep them deceived and to draw back and deceive God’s children.

This work of God, that Satan is trying to carry on, is the forgiveness of sins. We have talked about this before in an oblique manner by discussing the role of psychiatrists and psychologists as functional high priests of Satan’s, who labor to assuage guilt and provide a counterfeit peace through counseling, or, that failing, chemicals; affectionately called “meds” by many.

I saw one after another leave the company who were praying to Jesus in the Holiest, go and join those before the throne and they at once received the unholy influence of Satan.

This vision that God gave to the church was for it’s warning to the very end. It was not just for the 1800’s. Here we see that Satan is successful at deceiving many of the Advent people. This is one of the reasons why the Sanctuary message is not taught in church today.

More tomorrow.

As we vindicate the authentic Spirit of Prophecy and point out the lies of the counterfeit SOP, we are actually pointing out a process. This process has two parts. The first part is largely depicted in these texts.

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12

Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations. I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not. Isaiah 66:3-4

It is a strong delusion that is sent upon those who have chosen their own ways instead of God’s ways because they have not received a love of the truth to be obedient to it.

Here is the second part. It comes in the form of a dream or night vision, as it is sometimes called, and is found in No. 20, pages 42-49. We strongly urge you to read this section as it is so important. The following are only a few excerpts.

A Solemn Dream. p. 42, Para. 1, [20OT].

You are looking and desiring that God should do the work for you which he has left you to do. If you will do thy work for yourselves which you know that you ought to do, then God will help you when you need his help. You have left undone the very things God has left you to do. And you have been calling upon God to do your work. Had you followed the light God has given you, then he would cause more light to shine upon you; but while you have neglected the counsels, and warnings, and reproofs, that have been given, how can you expect God to give you more light and blessings for you to neglect and despise? God is not as man. He will not be trifled with. p. 43, Para. 1, [20OT].

God has been pleased to give you line upon line, and precept upon precept. But there are not many of you that really know what is contained in the Testimonies. You are not familiar with the Scriptures. If you had made God’s word your study, with a desire to reach the Bible standard and attain to Christian perfection, you would not have needed the Testimonies. p. 43, Para. 2, [20OT].

It is because you have neglected to acquaint yourselves with God’s inspired Book that he has sought to reach you by simple, direct testimonies, calling your attention to the words of inspiration you had neglected to obey, and urging you to fashion your lives in accordance with its pure and elevated teachings. The written testimonies are not to give new light; but to impress with vividness upon the heart the truths of inspiration already revealed. Man’s duty to God and to his fellow-man has been distinctly specified in God’s word; yet but few of you are obedient to the light given. Additional truth is not brought out; but God has through the testimonies simplified the great truths already given, and in his own chosen way brought them before the people, to awaken and impress the mind with them, that all may be left without excuse. p. 44, Para. 1, [20OT].

I am authorized from God to tell you that not another ray of light through the testimonies will shine upon your pathway, until you make a practical use of the light the Lord has already given. He has walled you about with light; but you have not appreciated the light. You have trampled upon it. While some have despised the light, others have neglected it, or followed it but indifferently. p. 45, Para. 1, [20OT].

The testimonies have been to some several times repeated; but they have not felt that they were of sufficient importance to be careful to heed them. They have been to them like idle tales. When you gather up the rays of light God has given in the past, then will he give an increase of light. p. 45, Para. 2, [20OT].

If the people of God who now profess to be his peculiar treasure would obey his requirements, as specified in his word, special testimonies would not be given to awaken them to their duty, and impress upon them their sinfulness and fearful danger in neglecting to obey the word of God. Consciences have been blunted, because light has been set aside, neglected, and despised. And God will remove them [the Testimonies] away from the people, and will deprive them of strength, and humble them. p. 46, Para. 2, [20OT].

And right here is the crux of the matter. We believe that God primarily used W. C. White to remove the authentic Spirit of Prophecy from the church through the creation of the counterfeit SOP under patently false pretenses. We further believe that this is the strong delusion which God has chosen for the lovers of pleasure in unrighteousness.

Only a few humans got on the ark. Will it be only a few that greet Christ when he comes?

Remember that we have discovered that the 144,000 count started in October 23, 1844 with the start of the third angel’s message. Click on that topic to read why.
