We are also under the third Woe with the sounding of the seventh trumpet. Question. What is Woe? It’s important to understand what God wants to teach us. We need to go to him for instruction.

There are 97 verses and 108 matches for this word in the Bible, using e-Sword. Remember parallelism? Here is some more of that.

    who hath woe?
    who hath sorrow?
    who hath contentions?
    who hath babbling?
    who hath wounds without cause?
who hath redness of eyes?  Proverbs 23:29

Five definitions of woe, all in a bunch! What a way to learn. There are 98 verses with the word woe. Interesting….

James discusses this topic in the last two and a half pages of his book, An Exposition of the Seven Trumpets of Revelation VIII & IX. This, as opposed to, ninety four pages to discuss the first six trumpets. He was being modest about unfulfilled prophecy.

The first two woes were physical in nature; very destructive, loss of life, war, are good terms to define the word. The last woe appears to have a totally spiritual application during the patient, waiting, watching, time.

After that ends, James places an application to it on the seven last plagues. Then he also says that it just might apply to the entire time of the wicked, though the 1,000 years, til they are destroyed in the fires of hell.

And why may not the sounding of the seventh angel continue until the end of the 1000 years? and the third woe cover ALL WOE til sin and sinners cease to be, at the close of the seventh millennium? The Seven Trumpets, page 96.

The third woe is by reason of the voice of the seventh angel. Chap. 8,13; 9,12,; 11,14. The seven plagues are poured out under the sounding of that angel, hence the plagues are future, and constitute the third woe. Life Incidents.

Notice the lack of a spiritual application in this last quote.

No. 23, page 22, calls the Ezekiel 9 slaughtering an “illustration of the last work,” which phrase I might not be understanding correctly. Nevertheless, it is very clear that there is a great controversy we are in the midst of, and it is far more spiritual than physical. This is a battle. We are at war.

James makes a further argument.

4. “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ.” But let it be borne in mind that this is under the third woe, when it is also said, “And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.” Rev.11:15,18. Sermons on the Coming and Kingdom, page 15.

The following are some additional definitions of woe.

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes [understanding] have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.  Isaiah 6:5

Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it. Jeremiah 10:19

We have discovered an important clarification of a point of truth. The body of information on this is actually quite large, astonishingly so.

November 18, 1848, Ellen was given a vision in a public meeting of the brethren, Joseph Bates was present and took some notes on what was said. The following is an excerpt from his book, A Sealing Message, page 25, and speaks to the point.

The time of trouble has commenced, it is begun.

The first thing to notice is that this is not, “the time of trouble such as never was,” “the time of Jacob’s trouble.” The Day-Star.

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.  Daniel 12:1

This, in the above text, is the time of Jacob’s trouble.

On page 3 of the Supplement to the CEV, God clearly defines the difference between the two, and states that it is a “short period.” When compared with the 6,000 year history of mankind to this point, 168 years, to date, is a short period. This short time of trouble is identified in the Bible as the day of battle and war.

Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?  Job 38:22 & 23

Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.  Ezekiel 13:5

Then it is further identified as the day of the LORD. But, this text is VERY important. Look carefully at it, read it slowly. It is identifying this battle in the day of the LORD as closely associated with a special work. This work is a going “up into the gaps” and a making “up the hedge.”

For an answer to this we go to The Present Truth, No. 4, the first article. It is by James and titled, Repairing the Breach in the Law of God. We will not put the article here, but a paraphrase of some important points is in order.

As the article title infers, the repairing of the breach is the restoring of the Sabbath to it’s rightful place. But, this work of restoration is the exact same work as the sealing of the 144,000! James places it in parallel with the Ezekiel 9 work of the six angels; which is in perfect harmony with the 1858 Great Controversy on page 197.

Because of the huge nature of this subject, we will be working on this for several days, so stay tuned. We are studying and keeping current information on the blog as we discover it.

Sabbath February 2, 2013

Today we will create our paraphrase, based on discoveries of God’s definitions of his words, as found in the Bible.

First we will refresh our minds about some things in Obadiah. Everything in the Bible is necessary and when God repeats something, it’s important. Jeremiah 49 is like a mirror for much of Obadiah, meaning, it’s important. We’ll look at the first verse, and compare it to Jeremiah.

The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.  Obadiah 1:1

I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.  Jeremiah 49:14

God is emphasizing something here. We think it is a prophecy of the SDA church, figured as Esau, who rises in battle against God’s prophet Ellen, in battle. That word, battle, is indicative of the effort against the authentic Spirit of Prophecy by the church leadership.

Now for verse 18.

Obadiah 18

and the house of Jacob shall be a fire,
and the house of Joseph           a flame,
and the house of Esau          for stubble,

    and they shall kindle in them, and devour them;
    and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau;
for the LORD hath spoken it.  Obadiah 1:18

Our Paraphrase:

And the church of the 144,000 (Philadelphia), those that were  deceivers shall be God’s word,
And the church of the 144,000 (Philadelphia), them that were separated from their brethren, shall be God’s word,
And the church of the General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists (Laodicea), a corporation, for thorns and briers, stubble fully dry,

and this combination of the 144,000 shall break out like a fierce, burning fire in the GCSDA church, spiritually breaking in pieces the whole church and there shall not be any left that have any true spiritual life in them; for the LORD hath spoken it.

Today, God’s message is to separate from wickedness and a continual bombardment of error which God will not protect you from unless he sends you there. See the Supplement to the CEV, page 45. The 144,000 will be giving the message to that apostate church. They will reflect Christ’s image, and will be accused of judging because they are the voice of reproof and rebuke.

And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also? Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.  John 9:39-41

As relates to our study, Esau is quite the character. He represents the GCSDA church. Esau despised his birthright. The SDA church also despises their spiritual birthright. It’s too simple and “like totally out on a limb!” There is no respectability in it’s roots. Nothing like today. Now we have some plush carpet on the floor of a temperature controlled, architect designed office. Something that says $$$.

Esau wanted to satisfy his hunger for temporal things. The SDA church also wants temporal things before Christ. These things have become idols. One of these is blind loyalty to the church and it’s supposed authority. Huge.

5.) Esau

Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. Genesis 25:34

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.  Hebrews 12:16

The famous story of Esau making the deal of a meal for a birthright.

Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.  Genesis 36:1

Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.  Genesis 36:8

he is Esau the father of the Edomites.  Genesis 36:43

Just in case you were wondering who Esau was.

Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau? And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.  Obadiah 1:8, 9

The way the church of Jacob and the church of Joseph work is spiritual. We see the slaughtering of Ezekiel 9 as strictly spiritual. Any literal slaughtering will be done by God, probably using the plagues.

And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.  Obadiah 1:21

This verse describes the 1000 years in Heaven and what the saints will be doing.

FIRE!!!… has been written about a lot. Someone said that it is a good servant but a terrible master. And so it is, as we heat our homes, often, with fire, but run in terror from a forest that is burning out of control.

Fire, our third subject word from Obadiah 18, is a hidden treasure word carrying huge amounts of spiritual information to the table. Because of the seriousness of physical fire, we get some idea of the seriousness of spiritual fire.

Because of this seriousness, because it applies to the end of time and the last fearful warning from God to all mankind, it is a major focal point of much that God has to say. We are combining fire and flame because as defined they are the same.

 3.) fire & flame

Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD;  Jeremiah 23:29

and the light of Israel shall be for a fire,
and his Holy One for a flame:
and it shall burn and devour
his thorns and
his briers in one day;  Isaiah 10:17

Having defined God’s word before, in Psalms 119:105, as light, we can now add the word fire as a definition. And God confirms that, here in Isaiah 10:17.

Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble,
and the flame consumeth the chaff,
so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust:
because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts,
and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 5:24

We note here that fire = flame, devoureth = consumeth, and stubble = chaff.

Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.  Isaiah 47:14

Now we have confirmation that this fire is spiritual, not literal. If it were literal we could get physically warm at it, or we could sit before it and get warm; but no, it is spiritual. Now as we go into Joel, you will have a new understanding of the message God is trying to get across.

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. Joel 2:1-5

Here again is the mention of the fire devouring the stubble, just as we are told in Obadiah 18.

Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.  Isaiah 10:16

Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee. And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.  Jeremiah 50:31, 32

And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.  47 And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.  48 Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?  Ezekiel 20:47-49

Parables is exactly what this language is all about. The meaning is hidden from those who should not be saved.

Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.  Jeremiah 5:14

And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.  Ezekiel 15:7

We are not doing an exhaustive study on fire today, we are showing that the fire is spiritual, not literal.

Sunday January 20, 2013

In yesterday’s post we showed God’s definition of his word as fire. Then we showed where it would be started, in the church of the one that despised his spiritual birthright. And that verse ended with the complete destruction of those in that church. We think this to be the spiritual slaughtering, not literal, spoken of in Ezekiel 9.

Next we have another verse dealing with this subject.

And the light of Israel shall be for a fire,
and       his Holy One                         for a flame:
and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;  Isaiah 10:17

There are several points found here. First we have a couple of definitions.
The light of Israel = his Holy One and fire = flame.

Then we are told that, it, shall burn and devour. So burn = devour, which is quite similar to Obadiah 1:18, making a perfect harmony between the two and it makes good sense.

Next we have, his thorns, his briers, making these equal with the peg word, his. Also on this point it is important to look carefully at each word in the subject text. This leads us to a further discovery of truth in the hidden treasure.

For while they      be folden together as thorns,
and while they are drunken                 as drunkards,
they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.  Nahum 1:10

Note the parallelisms in the text. Now note the word, devoured, a form of the word, devour. We are on target and still in perfect harmony, making good sense. With a look back to yesterday’s post we discover Esau being defined as stubble! Suddenly we have another prophecy pointing out the same event, in perfect harmony, making good sense! It’s beautiful!

The last phrase “in one day” needs some consideration. Is this one literal day? or is it a year? God does not leave it to chance. He tells us.

I saw that they were correct in their reckoning of the prophetic periods. Prophetic time closed in 1844. p. 148, Para. 1, [1SG ].

Time can no longer be interpreted using the year for a day definition. This is the correct understanding of Revelation 10:16.

And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

We therefore take this term to mean either one literal day, or a indefinite period of time. The latter probably being the most correct application.

Someone asked me to comment on my understanding of the 144,000.
This is the short and sweet version.

First, we will cover some ground to ensure we are both on the same page.

I use the KJV Bible, only. There are over 5,200 documents relating to the Bible, extant today, and 99.992% of them are in perfect harmony with the KJV. There are 44 documents that are not in harmony with the KJV and virtually all the other translations are founded on those. I call them, “Defiled Bread.” Or, counterfeit bibles.

I use only proven, authentic Spirit of Prophecy materials. With my own eyes, I have seen the original Testimonies, and most of the other books, though not all. I am a steward of an original, leather bound 1858 Great Controversy providentially given to my care by God. On this page the counterfeit SOP is exposed by a computerized comparison between the original and the changed.

In the authentic Testimony No. 20, page 44, God, the true author, tells us that the Testimonies are similar to the Bible, using these words; “God has been please to give you line upon line, and precept upon precept;” this is exactly like Isaiah 28:13. In part, this means that we must move between it’s different parts, just like the Bible, to get a clear understanding.

With these things in mind we turn to the very first publication of the first vision God gave to his church in 1846, The DayStar, and find these words.

They [those who left the Advent faith] fell all the way along the path one after another, until we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. The living saints, 144,000, in number, know and understand the voice, while the wicked thought it was thunder & and earthquake.

For a proper understanding, these two sentences must be known as the first line and precept that must be upon the next line and precept. These we find in the 1858 Great Controversy, page 205.

But there was one clear place of settled glory, from whence came the voice of God, like many waters, which shook the heavens and the earth. There was a mighty earthquake. The graves were shaken open, and those who had died in faith under the third angel’s message, keeping the Sabbath, came forth from their dusty beds, glorified, to hear the covenant of peace that God was to make with those who had kept his law.
And as God spake the day and hour of Jesus’ coming, and delivered the everlasting covenant to his people, he spake one sentence, and then paused, while the words were rolling through the earth. The Israel of God stood with their eyes fixed upwards, listening to the words as they came from the mouth of Jehovah, and rolled through the earth like peals of loudest thunder. p. 205, Para. 3, [1SG ].

Now that we have the other line, and the other precept, we gain a clear, correct understanding of the origin of the 144,000. By comparing these two lines and precepts, we see a clear connection in the words perfectly reproduced in both, “the voice of God, like many waters.”

By a careful reading of what occurs after this phrase, we see that in both lines, in each precept, the Father announces the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. But in the second is additional information not given in the first.

We find two items of interest. First, the Father calls from the grave “those who had died in faith under the third angel’s message, keeping the Sabbath.” Second, God proclaims a “covenant of peace” which he makes with the 144,000.

And it is only after this special resurrection that they are called, “The living saints, 144,000, in number.”

The other large question in the minds of many deals with the sealing of the 144,000. In order to answer this question properly, we again are pointed to God’s plan of “line upon line, precept upon precept” for a correct understanding.

I then saw the third angel. Said my accompanying angel, “Fearful is his work. Awful is his mission. He is the angel that is to select the wheat from the tares, and seal or bind the wheat for the heavenly garner. These things should engross the whole mind, the whole attention.” p. 38, Para. 3, [SUPCEV].

So it is the third angel of Revelation 14 that is to do the sealing. Many are not aware that this angel began his work October 23, 1844 with the vision given to Hiram Edson in the cornfield. We have further confirmation of this from Testimony No. 23, page 22, in these words, “Especially in the closing work for the church, [God’s true church] in the sealing time of the one hundred and forty-four thousand, who are to stand without fault before the throne of God,….”

And one more item, which taken together with the above, proves that the angel of Ezekiel 9, with the writer’s inkhorn, is the same as the third angel of Revelation 14.

An angel returned from the earth with a writer’s inkhorn by his side, and reported to Jesus that his work was done, that the saints were numbered and sealed. Then I saw Jesus, who had been ministering before the ark containing the ten commandments, throw down the censer. He raised his hands upward, and with a loud voice said, It is done. 1858 Great Controversy, p. 197.

To summarize, from these passages we find that the 144,000 count started with the third angel’s message, on October 23, 1844, and that probation will end when that count is completed.

It is a fearful time in which we now live; for 168 years the count has been continuing, soon it will end.

Wednesday December 12, 2012

Today we have an excellent example of peg words. And this appears to me to be a strong pointing to a spiritual slaughter, not a literal one, of Ezekiel’s prophecy in chapter 9.

The portion of Jacob is not like them [molten images]; for he [God] is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the LORD of hosts is his name.
Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for
with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and
with thee will I destroy kingdoms; And
with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and
    with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider;
with thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and
with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and
    with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid;
I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and
with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and
with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers. And
I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 51:19-24

And, it makes perfect sense, that a spiritual God, with spiritual words, would execute a spiritual slaughtering. (This in no way makes spiritual the fires of Hell that will forever destroy the wicked.)

How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?  Job 19:2

We have talked about this passage before, and today we have in the hidden treasure proof of our previous understanding that this was a spiritual slaughter, not a literal one.

The true people of God, [God’s true church, his true people, are now defined] who have the spirit of the work of the Lord and the salvation of souls at heart, will ever view sin in its real, sinful character. They will always be on the side of faithful and plain dealing with sins which easily beset the people of God. Especially in the closing work for the church [God’s true church of all time], in the sealing time of the one hundred and forty-four thousand, who are to stand without fault before the throne of God, will they feel most deeply the wrongs of God’s professed people. p. 22, Para. 1, [23OT].

The word THIS,” to which I have added emphases, encompasses the totality of the previous three sentences, placed above.

THIS is forcibly set forth by the prophet’s illustration OF THE LAST WORK under the figure of the men, each having a slaughter weapon in his hand. p. 22, Para. 1, [23OT].

Now we are told that we are being pointed to Ezekiel’s illustration—”of the last work. There are two major points in this phrase. The first, Ezekiel chapter 9 is an illustration, meaning that it is not literal. Second, the phrase “of the last work” means the work going on in the previous three sentences.

What is this “work?” It is the spiritual activity of the 144,000 then living; and this is applicable on a rolling-through-the-years basis, because of the 168 years since this process started. You will remember that we are in the time of the shaking, as told to us by God, in The Present Truth, No. 9, page 72, top left corner, in the words, “The mighty shaking has commenced, and will go on,….”

I asked the meaning of the shaking I had seen. I was shown that it would be caused by the straight testimony called forth by the counsel of the true Witness to the Laodiceans. It will have its effect upon the heart of the receiver of the testimony, and it will lead to him to exalt the standard and pour forth the straight truth. This straight testimony some will not bear. They will rise up against it, and this will cause a shaking among God’s people. p. 184, Para. 3, [1SG ].

Let us remember that this illustration shown by God to his church is in the present tense. Since we were told that the shaking had started January 26, 1850, this is proof that the shaking is a process and that this paragraph from the 1858 Great Controversy is in fact an illustration of that process. It is not a future event.

Satan has created the deception that the shaking will happen at some future time. And most of the SDA church waits for that, believed to be, future event, all the while participating in the on-going process by refusing to ASK (ask, seek, knock), rejecting the testimonies, fighting against God by claiming that the Spirit of Prophecy is outdated, irrelevant and too harsh.

The straight truth is the straight testimony, which is the living testimony, the gift of the spirit in prophecy as exemplified in the life of Ellen and the Testimonies for the Church, the voice of reproof and rebuke.

And here is the proof.

Go ye after him through the city, and smite:   Ezekiel 9:5

Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a     kindness:   and
let        him     reprove me; it shall be an  excellent oil,
which shall not break my head:  Psalms 141:5

It is the voice of God, the 144,000, the bright and shining light, which John the Baptist figured.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.  Revelation 3:19

May God grant that you will be a part of the 144,000

Wednesday July 11, 2012

This is going to be a very good study. Day by day I am amazed and awed by the discoveries of truth that pour forth as I read the Bible with spiritual discernment. My comprehension is growing as my mind expands with use. Beauties unfold before my sight. Wonderment increases as I behold the glories of God revealed. Things I had read, some occasionally, some quite often, blossom forth in colors of pure truth, the depths not even close to being felt.

Song of Solomon is a rather curious book. Bursting at the seams with the glories of hidden treasures for God’s true church, perhaps even more so, for that last generation.

God says this about them.

And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. Rev. 14:1-5

And this, found in the Song of Solomon.

Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. Song 1:3

Here is a paraphrase showing part of the treasure hidden within.

Because of the savour {character, or, (Christ’s) righteousness by faith} of thy good ointments {anointing oil} thy name {hidden treasure} is as anointing oil poured forth {kindled = fire & anger = Loud Cry}, therefore do the 144,000 love thee.

Now we will look at the “how,” we arrived at the paraphrase.

And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the Lord: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the Lord. Exodus 29:18

Every single part of the Sanctuary in some way represented Christ. All the offerings were typical of Christ’s death on the cross. The act of making an offering, was an act of faith in the righteousness of Christ, which was in part, his character.

And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. Exodus 30:25

A direct instruction that ointment = anointing oil.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Cor. 5:4

“Name” is associated with “and my spirit, with the power” showing a direct correlation between the two. The “power of our Lord Jesus Christ” is the hidden treasure.

Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day. Jeremiah 44:6

The words “poured forth” point to “kindled,” which points to fire and anger, usually of God.

for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you. Jeremiah 15:14
I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I if it be already kindled? Luke 12:49

“Fire” is defined as God’s word, in this case we believe it points to the Loud Cry of God in “anger” of protest to the inhabitants of the world over the breach made in his law.

The 144,000 rejoice that God has bared his arm (another word study) in the giving of the Loud Cry, for they will no more be “sighing and crying” as Ezekiel 9 portrays.

You will miss out on that special blessing reserved just for you, if you depend on my study for your study. You must prove all things. Look up and read in your Bible, and prove, that what is said here, makes sense to you.

The next section of No. 23, pages 17 through 23, deal with corporate sin. It moves through to a comparison with Ezekiel 9, but does not bring in the facts of the anti-typical Day of Atonement services and it’s bearing on the subject. The bottom line in all this is that you are responsible, as a member of a body, for the sins done in that body.

Therefore, since you have not the slightest modicum of control over the sins for which you will be held responsible, you must separate from sin and sinners, lest you be “partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Achan’s case is brought to view.

God had especially guarded his people from mingling with the idolatrous nations around them, lest their hearts should be deceived by their attractive groves and shrines, temples and altars, all of which were arranged in the most expensive, alluring manner, to pervert the senses, so that God would be supplanted in their minds. p. 18, Para. 1, [23OT].

God was very particular in regard to Jericho, lest the people should be charmed with the things that the inhabitants had worshiped, and their hearts be diverted from God. He guards his people by most positive commands. Notwithstanding the solemn injunction from God by the mouth of Joshua, Achan ventured to transgress. His covetousness led him to take the treasures God had forbidden him to touch, because his curse was upon it. And because of this man’s sin, the Israel of God was as weak as water before their enemies. p. 19, Para. 1, [23OT].

Achan’s Case Shows How God Regards Sin. p. 19, Para. 2, [23OT].

Joshua and the elders of Israel were in great affliction. They lay before the ark of God in most abject humility, because the Lord was wroth with his people. Joshua and the elders of Israel prayed and wept before God. The Lord spoke to Joshua, “Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them; for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed; neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.” p. 19, Para. 3, [23OT].

I have been shown that God has here illustrated how he regards sin among those who profess to be his commandmentkeeping people. Those whom he has especially honored with witnessing the remarkable exhibitions of his power, as did ancient Israel, and that will venture to disregard his express directions, will be subjects of his wrath. God would teach his people that disobedience and sin are exceedingly offensive to him, and not to be lightly regarded. He shows us that when his people are found in sin, they should at once take decided measures to put the sin from them, that his frown should not rest upon all his people. But if those in responsible positions pass over the sins of the people of God, as a body, will be held responsible for the sins that exist in their midst. God, in his dealings with his people in the past, shows the necessity of purifying the church from wrongs that exist among them. One sinner may diffuse darkness which will exclude the light of God from the entire congregation. When the people realize that darkness is settling upon them, and they do not know the cause, then they should earnestly seek God in great humility and self-abasement, until the wrongs which grieve God’s Spirit are searched out and put away from among them. p. 20, Para. 1, [23OT].

Responsibility For Sins We Do Not Reprove. p. 21, Para. 1, [23OT].

The prejudice which has arisen against us because we have reproved wrongs that God has shown me existed, and the cry that has been raised of harshness and severity, is unjust. God bids us speak, and we will not be silent. If wrongs are apparent among his people, and if the servants of God pass on indifferent to them, they virtually sustain and justify the sinner, and are guilty alike with the sinner, and will receive the displeasure of God just as surely as the sinner; for they will be made responsible for the sins of the guilty. I have been in vision pointed to many instances where the displeasure of God has been incurred by a neglect on the part of his servants to deal with the wrongs and sins existing in their midst. Those men who have excused wrongs have been thought by the people to be very amiable, and of lovely disposition, simply because they shunned to discharge a plain and scriptural duty. The task was not agreeable to their feeling; therefore they avoided it. p. 21, Para. 2, [23OT].

The spirit of hatred which has existed with some because the wrongs among God’s people have been reproved, has brought blindness and a fearful deception upon their own souls, making it impossible for them to discriminate between right and wrong. They have put out their own spiritual eyesight. They may witness wrongs, but they do not feel as did Joshua, and humble their souls in humiliation because the danger of souls is felt by them. p. 21, Para. 3, [23OT].

The true people of God, who have the spirit of the work of the Lord and the salvation of souls at heart, will ever view sin in its real, sinful character. They will always be on the side of faithful and plain dealing with sins which easily beset the people of God. Especially in the closing work for the church, in the sealing time of the one hundred and forty-four thousand, who are to stand without fault before the throne of God, will they feel most deeply the wrongs of God’s professed people. This is forcibly set forth by the prophet’s illustration of the last work under the figure of the men, each having a slaughter weapon in his hand. One man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer’s inkhorn by his side. “And the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.” p. 22, Para. 1, [23OT].

Who are standing in the counsel of God at this time? Is it those who virtually excuse wrongs among the professed people of God, and murmur in their hearts, if not openly, against those who would reprove sin? Is it those who take their stand against them, and sympathize with those who commit wrong? No, indeed! These, unless they repent, and leave the work of Satan in oppressing those who have the burden of the work, and holding up the hands of sinners in Zion, will never receive the mark of God’s sealing approval. They will fall in the general destruction of all the wicked, represented by the five men bearing slaughter weapons. Mark this point with care: Those who receive the pure mark of truth, wrought in them by the power of the Holy Ghost, represented by a mark by the man in linen, are those “that sigh and cry for all the abominations that are done” in the church. Their love for purity and the honor and glory of God is such, and they have so clear a view of the exceeding sinfulness of sin, that they are represented as being in an agony, even sighing and crying. Read Ezekiel, chapter nine. p. 22, Para. 2, [23OT].

But the general slaughter of all those who do not thus see the wide contrast between sin and righteousness, and do not feel as those do who stand in the counsel of God and receive the mark, is described in the order to the five men with slaughter weapons: “Go ye after him through the city, and smite; let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity; slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary.” p. 23, Para. 1, [23OT].

God said to Joshua (in the case of Achan’s sins), “Neither will I be with you any more except ye destroy the accursed from among you.” How does this instance compare with the course pursued by those who will not raise their voice against sin and wrong; but whose sympathies are ever found with those who trouble the camp of Israel with their sins? Said God to Joshua, “Thou canst not stand before thine enemies until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.” He pronounced the punishment which should follow the transgression of his covenant. p. 23, Para. 2, [23OT].
