I just met a man who is a known feaster, or, one who keeps the feasts. Not being a believer in the Spirit of Prophecy, he is now questioning the resurrection of the saints at the second coming. Arguing from the standpoint that for the entire course of known human history, we can dig up the bones of those then living. As if God was indebted to previously existing matter.

It was a surprise visit, and a surprise test. That is how they come. Often I have been tested when, for some reason, I was up late, &c., stretched in some way.

I found this to have some application here.

Few who are professedly of Israel, and whose minds have been enlightened by the revelations of divine wisdom, dare to come boldly forward, as did Caleb, and stand firmly for God and the right. Because those whom the Lord has chosen to conduct his work, will not be swerved from the course of integrity, to gratify the selfish and unconsecrated, they become the target for hatred and malicious falsehood. Satan is wide awake and working warily in these last days. God calls for men of spiritual nerve and stamina to resist his artifices. p. 19, Para. 1, [27OT].

I did not feel inclined to correct the man’s error as I know something of his past. Having given up the great anchors of the faith (1858 Great Controversy, p. 166), he is adrift on the sea of life, being carried about with Satan’s deceptions.

Our work is to supply the wants of those who will listen. Not to come off the wall to meet every argument Satan want’s to bring our way. Nehemiah gives us an excellent example.

That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief. And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner. Neh. 6:2-4

Today we present another item for your consideration. This is not really a big point, but it is an important one from the aspect of “messing with people’s minds, or, thinking.” This takes us straight back to the word definition game. “A rose is a rose is a rose” is probably Gertrude Stein’s  most famous quotation.

But if I come to you and tell you that this rose I am holding in my hand is in fact a cow, you would, rightly, consider me to be ridiculous.

This is an excerpt from Wikipedia.

The Big Lie (German: Große Lüge) is a propaganda technique. The expression was coined by Adolf Hitler, when he dictated his 1925 book Mein Kampf, for a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe that someone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.”

This is exactly what was done to the world on September 11, 2001, about the disaster at the World Trade Center. The truth is that over 3,000 people were murdered by high level officials in the US government. Yet, even today, the official government story-line lie is maintained, even on this Wikipedia page; a blatant, in your face example of high-level control of information, alleged to be available for editing by anyone.

All this takes us to the process of education. If you are my child, and I teach you nothing but lies, and you spend all your formative years learning from me, you will arrive at young adulthood believing that a rose is called a cow.

Virtually all Americans at this day are ignorant of the law of the land, the Constitution; simply because they were never taught about it, by intentional design of the Jesuits. God tells us pure truth. “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” The corollary here is, you must know the truth, it won’t make you free if you refuse to know it. If Americans were taught the truth about this country’s laws, there would be much less crime across the land today.

All should read Studies in Christian Education by Sutherland. Available free right here. I have two copies. One is the original, the other is the counterfeit. You see, Satan is the father of lies and he is a living being and will do all in his power to prevent you from gaining Heaven.

Now I have said all that to show you this. In Spiritual Gifts, Vol. 2. There is a word change. Here it is.

And as we had the emblem of our dying Lord before us, and was about to commemorate his sufferings, Bro. A. arose and said he had no faith in what we were about to do; that the Sacrament was a continuation of the Passover, to be observed but once a year. p. 97, Para. 2, [2SG].

And the correct word used.

And as we had the emblems of our dying Lord before us, and were about to commemorate his sufferings, Brother A. arose and said he had no faith in what we were about to do, that the Lord’s supper was a continuation of the passover to be observed but once a year. p. 247, Para. 2, [LS80].

The word “Sacrament” is a wholly Catholic term, Christians do not mix Catholic terms into their vernacular as it creates confusion, especially in the minds of the young, and familiarity with evil. Because of years of Jesuit control, dictionaries have been written with their definitions in place and it becomes very hard to argue for the truth. This is a part of Satan’s plan.

If you will read Sutherland’s book, you will be much better prepared to meet the evil when it’s time.

We think this word change was the work of Uriah Smith and that James White was aware of some of these things. Such evil at the heart of the work lead to the early death of James. God knew also, that is why No. 13 declares, “I saw that we had everything to fear in regard to the Office.” page 28. (which also was changed in the counterfeit)

It is not for nothing that these warnings are given.

Today’s post is rather long. The reason is because of the subject. We have been talking about the involvement of Uriah Smith in the Office (that would be the Review and Herald office).

Today I am presenting two pieces of evidence. The first is known to be written by James and the second we believe to have been written by Uriah. In the first article James gives reason and support for the 2520 prophecy from Leviticus 26. The second article carries James’ name, was published fourteen years later, but refutes the prophecy of Leviticus 26.

Interestingly, you can read about the same material from Uriah’s book, Daniel and Revelation, p. 784. The evidence accumulates.

Now you can read the material for yourself. The first is an excerpt from the complete article, found here, and the second is the complete article. When you switch from reading James, and move into the second article, I am confident you will feel the difference in the tone of the article. If not Uriah, then someone other than James did the writing and put his name to it. Research is on-going.

And first, – 1843. {August 1850 JWe, ADRE 2.4}
This, it is well known, was our first published time. It was the year – Jewish time – in which we looked for the Lord. There were never any set days in that year, as our opponents have repeatedly asserted, upon which the Adventists were united in their expectations, as the day which would be honored by the Lord’s Advent. There were, however, several days in that year, which were looked to with great interest; but while some had their eye upon one day, others had their minds directed to other days, so that there was no unanimity of expectation respecting them. In the year we were all united, and believed that sometime between March 21st, 1843, and March 21st, 1844, the Lord would come.   {August 1850 JWe, ADRE 2.5}
Our minds were directed to that point of time, from the fact that dating the several prophetic periods from those years in which the best chronologers assign the fulfilment of those events which were to mark their commencement, they all seemed to terminate that year. This was, however, only apparent. We date the “seven times” or 2520 years, from the captivity of Manasseh, which is, with great unanimity, placed by chronologers B. C. 677. This date is the only one we have ever reckoned from, for the commencement of this period; and subtracting B. C. 677 from 2520 years, there remained but A. D. 1843. We, however, did not observe, that as it would require 677 full years B. C. and 1843 full years A. D. to complete 2520 years, that it would also oblige us to extend this period as far into A. D. 1844, as it might have commenced after the beginning of B. C. 677. The same was also true of the other periods. The great jubilee of 2450 years, commencing with the captivity of Jehoiakim B. C. 607; and the 2300 days, commencing with the 70 weeks B. C. 457, would respectively require 1843 full years after Christ added to as many full years before Christ, as the years in which we have always respectively commenced each period, to complete the number of years in each; and as subtracting from each period the date B. C. of its commencement, there would remain A. D. 1843, no reference whatever was made to the fraction of the year, which, in each case, had transpired from its commencement, and which would require that each period should extend as much beyond the expiration of A. D. 1843, as they respectively began after the commencement of the year B. C. from which they are dated. {August 1850 JWe, ADRE 2.6}
While this discrepancy was not particularly noticed by us, it was also not noticed by any of our learned opponents. Amid all the arguments which were brought to bear against our position, no allusion was made to that point; and time alone accomplished what our opponents had been unable to do, in showing our mistake in the definite year.   {August 1850 JWe, ADRE 2.7}

JAMES WHITE, EDITOR

The Seven Times of Lev. xxvi
The prophetic period of Lev. xxvi, or what has been supposed to be such, has been no small object of study among prophetical expositors. It has been supposed that the expression, “seven times,” in verses 18, 21, 24, 28, denoted a prophetic period of 2520 years, and that this period covered the time during which the throne of Israel should be and remain subverted and trodden down by oppressing powers. To rightly fix the commencement and termination of this period, became therefore a matter of consequence. Where does it commence? and where does it end? have been questions of much study, and perhaps some perplexity. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.1}
These are not the questions, however, that we propose here to discuss; for there is a question lying back of these, which demands to be answered first; namely, Is there any prophetic period brought to view at all in Lev. xxvi? We claim that there is not, and will offer a few of what are to us very conclusive reasons for this position: {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.2}
1. A series of judgments is threatened against Israel, in case they hearkened not unto God to do his commandments, before the expression, seven times, is introduced. Verses 14-17. In these judgments is included being slain before their enemies, being reigned over by those that hated them, and fleeing when none pursued them. Now if the seven times were meant to cover the period of God’s special judgments against Israel, especially of their captivity by foreign powers, these seven times should have been mentioned in connection with the first threatening of judgments of this kind. But this, as we have seen, is not the case. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.3}
2. After the threatening of these judgments, God says, verse 18, “And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.” Then follows an enumeration of the judgments to come upon them in fulfillment of this, different from the items of the first threatening, and increasing in severity. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.4}
3. If they would not for this hearken, seven times more plagues were threatened against them, “according to their sins.” Verse 21. Then again follows an enumeration of judgments to correspond, more severe still than any preceding. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.5}
4. If they would not be reformed by these things, God threatened to punish them seven times more for their sins. Verse 24. And in like manner with the foregoing, an enumeration of the judgments to be inflicted in fulfillment, immediately follows, more fearful still. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.6}
5. And if they would not hearken to God for all these things, he makes a final threat that would walk contrary to them in fury, and chastise them seven times for their sins. Verse 28. And an enumeration of the judgments to be inflicted, again immediately follows, outdoing all before, in their terrible severity. Included among them were the eating of the flesh of their sons and daughters, making waste their cities, bringing the land into such desolation that their enemies should be astonished at it, scattering them among all nations, and drawing out a sword after them in all the lands of their dispersion. With fearful minuteness all this has been fulfilled, even to the eating the flesh of their own children, as in the terrible sieges that preceded the downfall of Jerusalem. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.7}
Thus we have, first, a series of judgments threatened against Israel, without the expression, seven times, and then the declaration four times made, that God would punish them seven times for their sins, each one on condition that the former did not lead to repentance, and each one containing its own specific enumeration of judgments, distinct from those that preceded, and regularly increasing in the severity of then denunciations. Now what is meant by this repeated expression of seven times? We reply, It denotes, not the duration of the punishment, but its intensity and severity. It is well expressed in the language of verse 21, thus: “I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.” The number seven denoting perfection, we are undoubtedly to understand by this expression, the fullness of their punishment; that the measure of their national sins, would in every case be fully equaled by the measure of their national calamities. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.8}
And this position is fully sustained by the original, as a brief criticism will show. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.9}
In references to the Hebrew, we learn from the Hebrew Concordance that the expression, seven times, in Lev. xxvi, comes from sheh-vag; and this word is expressly set down by Gesenius, in those texts, as an adverb, also in Ps. cxix, 164; Prov. xxiv, 16. In Dan. iv, 16, 25, the expression, seven times, twice occurs, where beyond question it means duration. Nebuchadnezzar was to be driven from men, and make his dwelling with the beasts of the field, until seven times should pass over him. There can be no mistaking that here the expression means a certain space of time; but here we find, not the adverb as in Lev. xxvi, but the noun, gid-dahn, defined by Gesenius, “Time, in prophetic language, for a year.” In Dan. vii, 25, where a prophetic period is brought to view in the expression, “a time and times and the dividing of time,” the same word is used. In Dan. xii, 7, where the same period is again brought to view, and in about the same language, we have another word, moh-gehd, defined by Gesenius, “Appointment of time. Spoken of a space of time, appointed and definite. In the prophetic style for a year.” It will be seen by this definition, that this word is synonymous with the one used in Dan. vii, 25, as above referred to. Now if a period of time is meant by the expression, seven times, in Lev. xxvi, one of these words should and would most assuredly have been used. And the fact that neither of these words is there used, but another word, and that an adverb, places it beyond question that no such period is there intended. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.10}
The Greek is equally definite. The Septuagint has in Lev. xxvi, heptakis, which is an adverb, signifying seven times. In Dan. iv, 16, 25, for Nebuchadnezzar’s seven times we have not heptakis, the adverb, but heptakairoi, a noun and its adjective. And in all cases where the word time occurs, denoting a prophetic period, as in Dan. vii, 25; xii, 7; Rev. xii, 14, it is from the noun kairos. Such a thing as a prophetic period based on an adverb is not to be found. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.11}
So then, there is no prophetic period in Lev. xxvi; and those who imagine that such a thing exists, and are puzzling themselves over the adjustment of its several dates, are simply beating the air. To ignore, or treat with neglect, a prophetic period where one is plainly given, is censurable in the extreme. It is an equally futile, though not so heinous, a course, to endeavor to create one where none exists. {January 26, 1864 JWe, ARSH 68.12}

Surely one of the greatest perils of the last days for God’s people has to be the counterfeiting of the true Spirit of Prophecy. I am now going to show you something that I do not have direct evidence for. The only thing I can do is look at the facts as they are, not as I might wish them to be.

Uriah Smith left the Advent people after the disappointment and attended school. In 1853 he rejoined the Advent people. We do have evidence that he did not accept the visions Ellen was given, as from God, at least since 1868.

In the following presentation, it is my opinion that Uriah was at the root cause of those few problems that do show within the body of the authenticated Spirit of Prophecy, and this is one of them. We are enjoined to prove all things. Failure to do this will bring only failure to gain Heaven at last.

God has made a promise to his people that they may exercise faith in him, and grow that faith. Here is the promise; “bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.” Isaiah 33:16. We know we have the correct interpretation and application of the promise because of the further guidance given to use by God in the following seven passages. (Two are direct repeats)

For two years past, the Lord has shown me in vision, repeatedly, that it is contrary to the Bible to make any provision for our temporal wants in the time of trouble. I saw that if the saints have food laid up by them, or in the fields, in the time of trouble when sword, famine, and pestilence are in the land, it will be taken from them by violent hands and strangers would reap their fields. Then will be the time for us to trust wholly in God, and he will sustain us. I saw that our bread and water would be sure at that time, and we should not lack, or suffer hunger. [Broadside 01-31-49 para. 09]
The Lord has shown me repeatedly, that it is contrary to the Bible to make any provision for our temporal wants in the time of trouble. I saw that if the saints had food laid up by them, or in the fields, in the time of trouble, when sword, famine and pestilence are in the land, it would be taken from them by violent hands, and strangers would reap their fields. Then will be the time of us to trust wholly in God, and he will sustain us. I saw that our bread and water would be sure at that time, and we should not lack or suffer hunger; for God was able to spread a table for us in the wilderness. And if necessary, he would send ravens to feed us as he did to feed Elijah, or rain manna from heaven, as he did for the Israelites. p. 23, Para. 2, [CEV].
That God who cared for Elijah in the time of famine, will not pass by one of his self-sacrificing children. He that has numbered the hairs of their heads, will care for them, and in days of famine they will be satisfied. While the wicked are perishing all around them for want of bread, their bread and water will be sure. p. 95, Para. 1, [4OT].
That God who cared for Elijah in the time of famine, will not pass by one of his selfsacrificing children. He that has numbered the hairs of their heads, will care for them, and in the days of famine they will be satisfied. While the wicked are perishing all around them for want of bread, their bread and water will be sure. p. 243, Para. 1, [2SG].
 Bread and water is all that is promised to the remnant in the time of trouble. p. 251, Para. 2, [3SG].
The words of Christ have been plain. “Strive [agonize] to enter in at the strait gate; for many I say unto you shall seek to enter in and shall not be able.” Professed Christians are not all so at heart. There are sinners in Zion now, as there were anciently. Isaiah speaks of them in referring to the day of God: “The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from the holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil. He shall dwell on high; his defense shall be the munitions of rocks; bread shall be given him, his waters shall be sure” p. 135, Para. 2, [18OT].
Bread and water is all that is promised to the remnant in the time of trouble. p. 223, Para. 2, [1SP].

Here is what I currently believe is error, probably at the hand of Uriah Smith. I could be wrong about this, but at least, now, you have the same evidence that I have. This is a portion of the comparison between the two printings.

Though suffering the pangs of hunger, they will not cease their intercessions. They lay hold of the strength of God, as Jacob laid hold of the angel,; and the language of their soul is, “I will not let thee go except thou bless me.” The saints at length prevail, like Jacob, and are gloriously delivered by the voice of God. p. 134123, Para. 23, [3SG1SP].
That season of distress and anguish will require an effort of earnestness and determined faith that can endure delay and hunger, and will not fail under weakness, though severely tried.

There could be another explanation for this, but as of this time, they all look rather weak and sickly, especially when compared with the cleanness of the rest of the authenticated Spirit of Prophecy.

P.S. 9/7/2011,  I am adding a passage that is pertinent to this subject. The link will only take you to the download page, this item is not yet available there. The code stands for, Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, of which 162 pages was by Ellen, the rest by James, believed to have been written before W. C. gained control. Research is on-going.

The time of trouble is just before us, and then stern necessity will require the people of God to deny self, and eat merely enough to sustain life; but God will prepare them for that time. In that fearful hour, their necessity will be God’s opportunity to impart strength, and sustain his people. But now God requires them to labor with their hands, the thing that is good, and lay by them in store as he has prospered them, and to do their part in sustaining the cause of truth. This is a duty enjoined upon all who are not especially called to labor in word and doctrine, to devote their time to proclaiming to others the way of life and salvation. p. 152, Para. 1, [CTBH].

Sunday August 28, 2011

God has revealed parts of his plan for after the close of probation, but not all. We might with profit at this point, apply a small passage from James. “While we may speak of fulfilled prophecy with positiveness, we would apply unfulfilled prophecy with becoming modesty.” p. 68, Para. 2, [7TRUMP].

It is my purpose to cover some of the more obscure points in this brief summary. Beginning with the 1858 Great Controversy, p. 197, let’s take a look at what we understand to this point.

1.) An angel returns from earth and reports to Jesus. It seems that this angel could be a representation of God’s people, and appearing to be the final act of God’s people before probation’s close and ushering it in. Just what this “reporting to Jesus” will entail is yet a mystery, though it might be the fact that they can find none to hear any more of their message.
1.2) We think this angel likely represents the Philadelphia church; because Laodicea never opened the door.
1.3) This angel has a writers inkhorn; an obvious link to the Ezekiel 9 group of six men that have charge over the city. We think “the city” refers to God’s true church in the Christian dispensation, Jerusalem, and the fact that there are only six, is a representation of a missing Laodiea. And as an aside, this thought. Surly this “slaughtering,” by the six men of Ezekiel 9, must be the cutting off from among the people, of those sinners who will not participate in the great anti-typical Day of Atonement preparation for judgment.
1.4) The inkhorn carried by this angel is used to place a mark or seal and (?) count. The only numbered group of saints is the 144,000, which started with the Philadelphia church, early Advent band, and absent Laodicea, and will end with the closing of probation.
1.5) It is the Philadelphia church that first carries the seal. “This seal is the Sabbath.” 1849 Broadside.

2.) Jesus throws down the censer and makes the closing proclamation. Probation for all mankind is finished, the plan of Salvation is closed.

3.) Now, still in the role of High Priest, Jesus, is still “ministering” in the temple. We look to the type to understand the anti-type.
3.2) The cleansing of the temple is a process. Christ entered the heavenly temple with his own blood. It is his blood that blots out the confessed sins of his church, his people on earth.
3.3) After the closing proclamation there is a work to be done by Christ, before the wrath of God in the seven last plagues can be poured out.
3.4) In the type the high priest comes into the first apartment and touches the horns of the Altar of Incense with the blood. I have not been able to find any information as to what happens in the anti-type. It does seem that Christ will pause for some moments, or some time, to perform the rite required there.

4.) Christ now comes to the door of the first apartment carrying all the sins confessed by all the saints, from Adam to the last saint who has accepted Christ as their saviour. He now places those sins on the head of Satan, in type represented by the Scape Goat.
4.2) We do not know how long this service lasts in earth time.

It is of great importance at this point to reveal the 1911GC for the counterfeit that it is. On page 658, beginning with the first sentence, it would instruct people that Christ is crowned King, comes to earth and brings the saints to Heaven. Then Christ becomes their High Priest, again, performs the service of placing the sins on the head of Satan and then becomes a King again. Later, on page 666 (?) Christ is again crowned the King. This confusion is straight from Satan.

Christ has three roles, he was a prophet on earth, he went to Heaven to be our High Priest, he will come again the second time as King of kings and Lord of lords; and those roles will not be repeated over and over. “We have also a more sure word of prophecy.”

5.) Then Christ is crowned King. Doubtless this takes some time also, perhaps more than we think, as the event is of the greatest importance to Heaven and earth.
5.2) After that service, Christ puts on the kingly robe of vengeance.
5.3) Thus clothed, Christ takes his place on the great white cloud.
5.4) And NOW, the plagues are poured out.
(See Spalding and Magan, p. 2)

So far we have looked at things, mostly from Heaven’s view. Here is earth’s.

6.) Probation closes.
6.2) The saints leave the cities and villages and live in companies in the most solitary places. (1858GC, p. 201)
6.3) The saints are calm and composed entering this “time of trouble such as never was.”
6.4) The world at large and in general, are enraged, suffering famine, pestilence, war, (not the plagues at first) and create the death decree law.
6.5) At the point where the saints become aware of the law’s existence is probably when the time of Jacob’s trouble begins.
6.6) Jacob’s trouble must last until the saints have drunk of the cup and have been baptized with the baptism. We have no idea how long this takes.

7) The voice of God sounds, bringing deliverance to the saints, an end to the time of trouble such as never was and the time of Jacob’s trouble, and resurrecting those who have died in the faith.
7.2) Next God speaks the day and hour of Christ’s second coming.
7.3) Some of the wicked, those who have given up the Sabbath, worship at the feet of the saints.
7.4) It takes a “number of days” for Christ to arrive. (The DayStar)

You might wish to print out this page and look up the points so you will be able to show it to others intelligently, with proof. I purposely have not listed each one. If you have a question, feel free to email me.

No. 8, p. 106 to 112, section titled, “The Two Crowns.” I suggest you give it a read. It’s not that long. Perhaps you heard, Steve Jobs resigned. Here is a picture of the man who won, one of the two crowns. Now look at him. At 56 he looks washed up. Oh, it’s true, he had a bout with cancer.

Most people who live the fast life (or slow), win or loose, eat meat, processed meat. Just recently I read an article (sorry no reference, you’ll have to google it) making the link to processed meats. You know, lunch, sandwich meats. Here is the kicker. No matter the meat source, they all use the same preservative… it causes cancer.

I praise God that you have chosen the second crown, the one that lasts, literally, forever.

Satan believes and trembles. He works. He knows his time is short, and he has come down in great power to do his evil works according to his faith. Yet God’s professed people do not support their faith by their works. They believe in the shortness of time, yet are just as eager, grasping after this world’s goods as though the world was to stand as it is now, a thousand years. Selfishness marks the course of action of many. “But whoso hath this world’s goods, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” p. 59, Para. 2, [16OT].

 Time is short, and you have no time to delay the preparation of heart necessary to labor earnestly and faithfully for your own souls, and for the salvation of your friends and neighbors, and all who come under your influence. p. 53, Para. 1, [16OT].

We are living amid the perils of the last days, where there is everything to divert the mind and allure the affections from God. Our duty will only be discerned, and appreciated when viewed in the light which shines from the life of Christ. As the sun rises in the east and passes toward the west, filling the world with light, so the true follower of Christ will be a light unto the world. He will go forth into the world as a bright and shining light, that those who are in darkness may be lightened and warmed by the rays shining forth from him. Christ says of his followers, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” p. 106, Para. 1, [24OT].

Many have foolishly taken their eyes off Christ and denied the faith, fallen off the path down into the dark and wicked world below. The DayStar.

Christ’s cross is a burden only to those who keep their mind staid on the things of this world. Just the other day I had a wave of loneliness sweep over me. I paused and felt it, then I lifted my head and said, “Praise your name Lord! for you are always with me.” The loneliness passed, the wave washed on, but I had my God.

Here is a special, pointed warning for God’s people in these last days.

We have evidences in God’s word of the liability of the people of God being greatly deceived. There are many instances where what may seen to be a sincere zeal for the honor of God has its origin in leaving the soul unguarded for the enemy to tempt and impress the mind with a perverted sense of the real state of things. And we may expect just such things in these last days; for Satan is just as busy now as he was with the congregation of Israel. The cruelty and strength of prejudice are not understood. After the congregation had the evidences before their sight of the destruction of these leaders in rebellion [ Korah, Dathan, and Abiram ], the power of suspicion and distrust which had been let into their souls was not removed. They saw the earth open and the leaders in rebellion go down into the bowels of the earth. This fearful exhibition before them surely ought to have cured them, and led them to the deepest repentance for their abuse of Moses. p. 25, Para. 3, [24OT].
Here God gave all Israel an opportunity to see and to feel the sinfulness of their course which should have led them to repentance and confession. He gave the deceived ones overwhelming evidence that they were sinners, and that his servant Moses was right. p. 26, Para. 1, [24OT].

In the last days, of these now 167 years, we have a somewhat similar case before God’s people. This is more especially so since the advent of this site and a full uncovering of the evil deception that has for years been willingly perpetrated upon God’s people.

That Ellen was selected by God to be his prophet to his church in these last days is supported by an overwhelming weight of evidence. It is a fact. Then, two days after Ellen died, on a Friday, God executed a top editor, A. J. S. Bourdeau, in broad daylight, right in front of the whole General Conference office staff, and, A. G. Daniels, witnessing.

Immediately after the event a coverup was put in motion. The church at large was not made aware of the facts in the matter. I am quite sure there were rumors aplenty, but over time, after witnesses die, all that is left of the matter is the record of history, that was carefully selected to coverup the facts. God has now undone all their scheming.

We must now bring forth another passage which I think bears on this matter. It is about our attitude.

We are doing up work for the Judgment, and it is unsafe to work in our own wisdom and trust to our own judgment. With the spirit of self-confidence you now possess neither of you could be happy in Heaven; for there all, even the exalted angels, are subordinate. You have yet to learn subordination and submission. Both of you must be transformed by the grace of God. p. 99, Para. 2, [23OT].

I was impressed that I have lessons to learn about the line of separation from the world, and especially about the patriotic feelings about my home country, rights, &c., and God’s way. We know that he is no respecter of persons. The most humble and meek and poor and despised in the church is probably the very one God will use to test the experience of that church.

We have such a case in one Hannah More. p. 111, Para. 2, [24OT].

The special perils of the last days for God’s people will sweep us off the path and over the edge down into the dark and wicked world below if we fail to take warning from the truth revealed.

God Bless your Study

PS. I urge you to read the last two passages in context.

God’s true church, the Advent people, took on the name Seventh-Day Adventist, in God’s providence. For the very name is a standing rebuke to the rest of professed Christendom.

In the process of time that organization has apostatized from the faith. Now, in this late hour, God’s true church still has a work to do. Just like Noah worked before the water destroyed that world, so we are to work before fire will destroy this world. This special work is to deliver God’s last warning to whoever will listen.

Those laboring in the Office have not had a vivid sense that the truths that they were handling were of heavenly origin, to accomplish a certain and special work as did the preaching of Noah before the flood. As the preaching of Noah warned, tested, and proved, the inhabitants of the world before the flood of waters destroyed them from off the face of the earth, so is the truth of God for these last days doing a similar work of warning, testing, and proving the world. The publications which go forth from the Office bear the signet of the Eternal. They are being scattered all through the land, and are deciding the destiny of souls. Men are now greatly needed who can translate and prepare our publications in other languages to reach all tongues, and that the messages of warning may go to all nations, that they may be tested by the light of the truth, that men and women, as they see the light, may turn from the transgression to the obedience of the law of God. p. 123, Para. 2, [22OT].

In this short passage is several important points. (I have not seen this passage before today. I still have not read all the Testimonies, yet, and No. 22 is in that group.)

1.) The truth being brought to the world is a message from Heaven.

2.) The third angel’s message is the message Noah’s preaching represented.

3.) God’s Advent people have been standing in the place of Noah ever since October 23, 1844. (I used to put Noah’s message in with the loud cry, but I was reminded that he preached for 120 years.)

4.) God’s people need to pull together, gather up all the light we have, apply that light to our practice, and publish the truth to the world.

5.) This Noahadic, third angel’s warning message is the final warning, there is no new, or different, message. Revelation 18 speaks of another angel’s message, but we know it to be the exact same, testing message, not a different message or new light.

6.) The testing message for the world is different than is the testing message for the church. The world is tested on the various truths of God’s word, but mostly, God’s law and the message that the end of the world has come. The church, having accepted those truths already, is tested on perfecting their character through faith in the Spirit of Prophecy.

If God’s people had made his word their study and perfected their characters, the Testimonies would not have been given. But, because the Testimonies have been given, they are not optional. They are, in fact, the process of the good Shepard going to seek the wandering sheep. See page 44 of No. 20.

Because this is so, Satan works with all his power against God’s people to prevent the good Shepard’s entrance. It appears that thus far he has been successful. We think that Laodicea never opens the door, and Philadelphia takes the day.

It is Satan’s special object to prevent this light from coming to the people of God, who so greatly need it amid the perils of these last days. p. 47, Para. 2, [20OT].

God Bless your perfecting your character

Here is a nice passage that delineates the position of God’s people in these last days.

There is work to be done in new fields. Sinners need to be warned who never have heard the warning message. Here, Bro. and sister —- have ample room to work and prove their calling. No one should hinder them in their effort in new fields. There are sinners to save in every direction. But some ministers are inclined to go over and over the same ground among the churches, when their labors cannot help them, and their time is wasted. p. 88, Para. 1, [21OT].

Don’t forget, there are many who are traveling without a message. They need to be proved to see if God really has called them to the work.

We would wish all the Lord’s servants were laborers. This work should not be confined alone to the ministers, but brethren who have the truth in their hearts, and have exerted a good influence at home, should feel that a responsibility rests upon them of devoting a part of their time to go out among their neighbors, and in adjoining towns, to be missionaries for God. They should carry the publications, and engage in conversation, and, in the spirit of Christ, pray with and for those whom they visit. This is the work that will arouse a spirit of reformation and investigation. p. 88, Para. 2, [21OT].

What an impressive sentence! You want reformation in your life?

The Lord has been for years calling the attention of his people to health reform. This is one of the great branches of the work of preparation for the coming of the Son of Man. John the Baptist went forth in the spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way of the Lord, and turn the people to the wisdom of the just. He was a representative of those living in these last days to whom God has entrusted sacred truths to present before the people, to prepare the way for the second appearing of Christ. John was a reformer. The angel Gabriel, direct from Heaven, gave a discourse upon health reform to the father and mother of John. He said he should not drink wine or strong drink, and should be filled with the Holy Ghost from his birth. p. 88, Para. 3, [21OT].

John separated himself from friends, and from the luxuries of life. The simplicity of his dress, a garment woven of camel’s hair, was a standing rebuke to the extravagance and display of the Jewish priests, and of the people generally. His diet, purely vegetable, of locusts and wild honey, was a rebuke to the indulgence of appetite, and the gluttony that prevailed everywhere. The prophet Malachi declares, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord, and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of children to their fathers.” Here the prophet describes the character of the work. Those who are to prepare the way for the second coming of Christ are represented by faithful Elijah, as John came in the spirit of Elijah to prepare the way for his first advent. The great subject of reform is to be agitated, and the public mind is to be stirred. Temperance in all things is to be connected with the message, to turn the people of God from their idolatry, their gluttony, their extravagance in dress and other things. p. 89, Para. 1, [21OT].

The self-denial, humility, and temperance, required of the righteous, whom God has especially led and blessed, is to be presented to them in contrast to the extravagant, health-destroying habits of the people who live in this degenerate age. God has shown that health reform is as closely connected with the third angel’s message as the hand is united to the body. And there is nowhere to be found so great a cause of physical and moral degeneracy, as a neglect of this important subject. Those who are indulging their appetite and passions, and close their eyes to the light for fear they shall see sinful indulgences which they are unwilling to forsake, are guilty before God. Whoever turns from the light in one instance hardens his heart to disregard the light in other matters. Whoever violates moral obligations in the matter of eating and dressing, prepares the way to violate the claims of God in regard to eternal interests. Our bodies are not our own. God has claims upon us to take care of the habitation he has given us, that we may present our bodies to him a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable. Our bodies belong to him who made them, and we are in duty bound to become intelligent in regard to the best means of preserving the habitation he has given us from decay. If we enfeeble the body by self-gratification, by indulging the appetite, and by dressing in accordance with health-destroying fashions, in order to be in harmony with the world, we become enemies of God. p. 90, Para. 1, [21OT].

I am sure you will remember the passage titled, “An Impressive Dream,” found in No. 20, p. 28, as it truly is quite impressive. (You could read it now, just to refresh your mind, as it is short) In this dream God is illustrating, again, the strait and narrow path to the city, just as he did with Ellen’s first vision, found in The DayStar. But here in No. 20, it seems we have some important points further illustrated.

The most prominent to my mind, is the chasm at the end of the path, which seems to illustrate death. In the illustration this chasm is differentiated from the “deep precipice” which was always at one side of the path, perhaps illustrating the world. Another has forwarded the idea that the high white wall illustrates the church.

But in reading about the last days, in the following two passages, I was reminded about a portion of this dream in No. 20. “We had heavily loaded wagons.” In the common vernacular of the day, we would say, “They have baggage.” As you read the following I am sure you will make the connection.

 The Lord, by close and pointed truths for these last days, is cleaving out a people from the world, and purifying them unto himself. Pride and unhealthful fashions, the love of display, the love of approbation, all must be left with the world, if we would be renewed in knowledge after the image of Him who created us. “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared unto all men, teaching us, that denying ungodliness, and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” p. 73, Para. 1, [21OT].

We are living amid the perils of the last days, and if we have a spirit of self-sufficiency and independence, we shall be exposed to the wiles of Satan, and be overcome. Self-importance must be put away from you, and you be hid in God, depending alone upon him for strength. The churches do not need your labor. If you are consecrated to God, you can labor in new fields, and God will work with you. Purity of heart and life God will accept. Anything short of this, he will not regard. We must suffer with Christ if we would reign with him. p. 96, Para. 2, [21OT].

Far above the consideration of physical baggage is spiritual baggage. We must reach the point where we can “be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” 2 Peter 3:14
