We HAVE to take another look at the subject of this past Wednesday’s postnon-conformity.

What is it, really?

I was a kid, attending a General Conference Seventh-Day Adventist academy for my senior year at high-school level. The church was doing all in it’s power to conform — to the world. The school was accredited, which is another whole subject. The test I took was measuring me against, — what? A world in rebellion against God, led by Satan, as this depiction by God, given in the 1858 Great Controversy.

A train of cars was shown me, going with the speed of lightning. The angel bade me look carefully. I fixed my eyes upon the train. It seemed that the whole world was on board. Then he showed me the conductor, who looked like a stately fair person, whom all the passengers looked up to and reverenced. I was perplexed, and asked my attending angel who it was. Said he, It is Satan. He is the conductor in the form of an angel of light. He has taken the world captive. They are given over to strong delusions, to believe a lie that they may be damned. His agent, the next highest in order to him, is the engineer, and others of his agents are employed in different offices as he may need them, and they are all going with lightning speed to perdition. I asked the angel if there were none left. He bade me look in an opposite direction, and I saw a little company traveling a narrow pathway. All seemed to be firmly united, and bound together by the truth. p. 174, Para. 2,[GC58].

Show me the text! Where is any text, in the Bible, that tells us to conform to the world? It’s not there. No, God’s plan is the very opposite of Satan’s plans. That’s what we mean when we say, “world.” It’s rules and principles all flow from Satan, with the notable exception of where God places restraints on Satan’s people.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, Romans 12:2

There are 7 points that need to be looked at here.

It has not cost Bro. —- hard effort to search out the truth, for chosen men of God have prepared arguments to his hand, clear, plain and convincing. Difficult points of present truth have been reached by the earnest efforts of a few who had a devotion to the work. Fervent prayer, and fasting before God, have moved the Lord to unlock his treasuries of truth to their understanding. Wily opponents and boasting Goliaths have had to be met, sometimes face to face, but more frequently with the pen. Satan was urging on men to fierce opposition, to blind the eyes and darken the understanding of the people. The few who had the interests of the cause of God and the truth at heart, were aroused to its defense. They did not seek for ease, but were willing to venture even their lives for the truth’s sake. p. 110, Para. 2, [20OT].

These zealous searchers after truth risked their capital of strength, and their all, in the work of defending the truth and spreading the light. Link after link of the precious chain of truth has been searched out, until it stands forth in beautiful harmony, uniting in a perfect chain. Arguments have been brought out by these men of investigating minds, and made so plain that a school-boy may understand them. How easy now for men to become teachers of the truth, while they shun self-sacrifice and self-denial. p. 111, Para. 1, [20OT].

Those who were searchers for truth, and have suffered for the truth, know what it cost. They can value the truth. They feel the most intense interest in its advancement. Self-denial and the cross lie directly in the pathway of every follower of Christ. The cross is that which crosses the natural affections and the will. If the heart is not wholly sanctified to God, if the will, and affections, and thought, are not brought into subjection to the will of God, there will be a failure to carry out the principles of true religion, and to exemplify in the life, the life of Christ. There will not be a true desire to sacrifice ease and self-love; and the carnal mind will not be crucified, to work the works of Christ. p. 111, Para. 2, [20OT].

1.) Present Truth has been searched out, collated, prepared, packaged, perfected, all ready for these last days, … all ready for your use.

2.) God has chosen the ones who have prepared Present Truth for our use.

3.) Being so far removed in time from the pioneers, we know little of the cost of Truth.

4.) “Fervent prayer, and fasting before God, have moved the Lord to unlock his treasuries of truth….” If there is something we really need to know, here is a formula for getting the answer.

5.) We can take the interest of the work of God to heart, we can be prepared to lay our lives on the line for the spread of this truth. It gets back to “whosoever will” may take up the task, the reward waits. It gets back also to an entire consecration.

6.) Present Truth today, how few study it. How few have the authentic Spirit of Prophecy to work from. The writings of the pioneers, who have been in all the messages, has been hidden from the church, along with the authentic Spirit of Prophecy.

7.) A true definition of just what the cross really is. Here again we come face to face with the specter of total commitment, an entire consecration, just like the pioneers. (1858 GC, p. 142)

If we do not take this message to heart, we will not be in Heaven. We are the ones who are walled in with light. (No. 20, p. 42-49) God can do no more than he has done. The die is cast.

Who will be on the Lord’s side? is the great question. Who will NOT be like the rich young ruler? but will realize that we, each one, are created beings. Evolution is a myth, a device of Satan. You don’t believe in that, but Satan is just as willing for you to only do a half-way work. Anything except — full entire consecration.

May God lead you to make a choice for him, totally

Wednesday September 29, 2010

When I attended academy (church high school), in the mid western part of the USA, I had a “youth guidance” teacher who told us we were going to be taking a special test. He informed us it was a personality test. He urged us to be honest in answering the questions as it was for our own  benefit to understand ourselves.

I believed him. I carefully answered all the questions.

A few days later this teacher called me into his office. He proceeded to tell me that I had scored higher than anyone ever, since they had been giving this test, on, of all things, non-conformity. Two realizations suddenly hit me.

1.) I was shocked that something like that could be drawn from the, then seemingly, benign questions on the test.

2.) The world was a much more dangerous place than I had previously thought and I had best be much more careful in the future.

Now the point I wish to drive home is this: a seemingly innocent arrangement of words is not so innocent. The application, in this case, is the true, authentic Spirit of Prophecy vs the Counterfeit. In so many instances of changes, a seemingly innocent arrangement of words is used; the meaning is apparently the same. This is the primary argument in favor of the Counterfeit.

I wish to remind you of a word, “hundred-fold,” a compound word, meaning, that if you have one apple and I give you a hundred-fold more, you will have one hundred apples.

Here is the operative passage.

Satan has the same power and the same control over minds now, [as when he first deceived the angels in Heaven] only increased by exercise and experience a hundred-fold. Men and women are today deceived, blinded by his insinuations and devices, and know it not. They are, in giving place to doubts and unbelief in regard to the work of God, and cherishing feelings of distrust and cruel jealousies, preparing themselves for complete deception. They rise up with bitter feelings against the ones who have dared to speak of their errors and reprove their sins. p.103, Para. 1, [23OT].

It is truly amazing to see grown adults, from thirty to ninety years of age, look you straight in the face and tell you that they are fully qualified to, singlehandedly, do battle, with a being who is in excess of six thousand years old and is now one hundred-fold better than he was, Satan. These people fit this sentence, perfectly. “Men and women are today deceived, blinded by his insinuations and devices, and know it not.”

Salvation is serious business. It’s terribly expensive. It costs many lives. Even God’s own son, it cost his life. God can never have his son as he was before he became a human. That’s why there is an inheritance, … the testator died, … forever, … to what he was. Now he is human, a part of the human race, our elder Brother. Now, he, with his Father, are offering eternal life, to any and all, to whosoever will. Just comply with the conditions, in the appointed way, that’s all. An eternal price has been paid, … for you.

We [James and Ellen] have trembled at the responsibility which we have accepted with much prayer and meditation. We have stood as God’s ambassadors, beseeching souls in Christ’s stead to be reconciled to God. We have warned of danger as God has presented before us the perils of his people. Our work has been given us of God. What then will be the condition of those who refuse to hear the words which God has sent them, because they cross their track or reprove their wrongs? If you are thoroughly convinced that God has not spoken by us, why not act in accordance with your faith and have no more to do with a people who are under so great a deception as this people are? If you have been moving according to the dictates of the Spirit of God, you are right and we are wrong. God is either teaching his church, reproving their wrongs and strengthening their faith, or he is not. This work is of God, or it is not. God does nothing in partnership with Satan.

Huge evidence for NOT studying the counterfeit, which was inspired by Satan.

My work, for the past years, bears the stamp of God or the stamp of the enemy. There is no half-way work in the matter. The Testimonies are of the Spirit of God, or of the devil. You are, in arraying yourself against the servants of God, either doing a work for God, or for the devil. “By their fruits ye shall know them.” What stamp does your work bear? It will pay to look critically at the result of your course. p. 129, Para. 1, [27OT].

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It occurred to me that there is a second benefit for the SDA church in claiming that God did NOT control Ellen in the production of the Spirit of Prophecy. The first benefit was to give them “wiggle room” to change the writings. The second, just discovered, benefit is this: when they (the church leadership) get nailed on something in the SOP, it is very convienient to just claim it was Ellen herself, you know, at some moment when God was not watching….
Today’s passage has several points in it, however, one in particular is a very important practice that should be thought of as essential, daily essential, like a good breakfast is essential to good health.
I had occasion, some years ago, to stop at a home, about midnight, to return a member of the family to their home. I was shocked when the father came out into the kitchen and popped some bread into the toaster for a snack. He was another one who had difficulty rising from his easy chair by reason of his great weight. Thinking of food just came “naturally” to him.
For the Christian, thinking of Christ, Heaven, the angels, life eternal, just comes “naturally” because it has become a habit. Acting on good impulses just comes “naturally,” for the Christian has consistently yielded to the promptings of the angels for years. These things come through taking time to do the important things first.
The young will urge that they need something to enliven and divert the mind. I saw that there was pleasure in industry, a satisfaction in pursuing a life of usefulness. Some still urge that they must have something to interest the mind, when business ceases, some mental occupation or amusement to which the mind can turn for relief and refreshment amid cares and wearing labor. The Christian’s hope is just what is needed. Religion will prove to the believer a comforter and a sure guide to the fountain of true happiness. I saw that the young should study the word of God, and give themselves to meditation and prayer, and they will find that their spare moments cannot be better employed. Young friends, you should take time to prove your own selves, whether you are in the love of God. Be diligent to make your calling and election sure. All depends upon your course of action, whether you secure to yourselves the better life. “Wisdom’s ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.” For the young to contemplate the future abode of the righteous, the everlasting reward, is a high and ennobling theme. Dwell upon the marvelous plan of salvation, the great sacrifice made by the King of glory to prepare the way that you might be elevated through the merits of his blood, and by obedience finally be exalted to the throne of Christ. This subject should engage the noblest contemplation of the mind. To be brought into favor with God, what a privilege! To commune with Him, what can more elevate, refine, and exalt us above the frivolous pleasures of earth? To have our corrupt natures renovated by grace, our lustful appetites and animal propensities in subjection, and we standing forth with noble, moral independence, achieving victories every day, will give peace of conscience which can arise alone from right doing. p. 11, Para. 2, [12OT].
Do you have anything in your past where you were cheated? lied to? stolen from? Don’t feel so all alone. It is a part of those trials that I did not think were “religious,” so I discounted them from the arena. God was not involved, that’s what I thought.
Nevertheless, I have learned that God is into every part of his people’s lives, every part. He is seeking to prepare us for Heaven. It is his appointed way, for us to be prepared, here, now, in this life. You do want to go to Heaven, right? Heaven begins now, right now. That’s why Christ came and lived out a life and developed a character.
The qualities of character which he developed on earth constitute his exaltation in glory. His triumphs were gained by love, not by force. In coming to Christ the sinner consents to be elevated to the noblest ideal of man. p. 256, Para. 3, [3SP].
This counsel, from God to me, was most painful. Some things in the past are so hard to “forget.” Really, the only solution is to keep our mind stayed on Christ. Isaiah 26:3
The Lord is seeking to teach my husband to have a spirit of forgiveness, and forgetfulness of the dark passages in his experience. The remembrance of the unpleasant past only saddens the present and he lives over again the unpleasant portion of his life’s history. In so doing, he is clinging to the darkness and is pressing the thorn deeper into his spirit. This is my husband’s infirmity, and it is displeasing to God. This brings darkness and not light. He may feel apparent relief for the time in expressing his feelings, but it is only making more acute a sense of how great his sufferings and trials have been, until the whole becomes magnified in his imagination, and the errors of his brethren, who have aided in bringing these trials upon him, look so grievous that their wrongs seem to him past endurance. p. 146, Para. 1, [21OT].
My husband has cherished this darkness so long by living over the unhappy past that he has but little power to control his mind when dwelling upon these things. Circumstances and events which once he would not have minded, magnify before him into grievous wrongs on the part of his brethren. He has become so sensitive to the wrongs under which he has suffered that it is necessary that he should be as little as possible in the vicinity of Battle Creek, where many of the unpleasant circumstances occurred. God would heal his wounded spirit if he will let him. But in doing this, he will have to bury the past. He should not talk of it, or write of it. p. 147, Para. 1, [21OT].
It is positively displeasing to God for my husband to recount his difficulties and his peculiar grievances of the past. If he had looked upon these things in the light that they were not done to him, but to the Lord, whose instrument he is, then he would have received a great reward. My husband has taken these murmurings of his brethren as though done to himself, and he has felt called upon to make all understand the wrong and wickedness of thus complaining of him, when he did not deserve their censure and abuse. p. 147, Para. 2, [21OT].
Count the cost. Weigh the risk. Measure the time. Consider the reward. What the strength. Mark the way. Condemn the feelings. Watch the start. Make the finish.
Many are the hindrances that lay in the path of those who would follow in obedience the commandments of God. There are strong and subtle influences that bind them to the ways of the world; but the power of the Lord can break these chains. He will remove every obstacle from before the feet of his faithful ones, or give them strength and courage to conquer every difficulty, if they earnestly beseech his help. All hindrances will vanish before an earnest desire and persistent effort to do the will of God at any cost to self, even if life itself is sacrificed. Light from Heaven will illuminate the darkness of those, who, in trial and perplexity, go forward looking unto Jesus as the author and finisher of their faith. p. 8, Para. 1, [27OT].
The unfaltering servants of God have usually suffered the bitterest persecution from false teachers of religion. But the true prophets will ever prefer reproach and even death rather than unfaithfulness to God. The Infinite eye is upon the instruments of divine reproof, and they bear a heavy responsibility. But God regards the injury done to them through misrepresentation, falsehood or abuse, the same as though it were done unto himself, and will punish accordingly. p. 37, Para. 1, [27OT].
Bro. —-‘s education has not been such as to strengthen the high moral qualities that would enable him to stand alone in the strength of God in defense of truth, amid the severest opposition, firm as a rock to principle, true to his moral character, unmoved by censure, or human praise, or rewards, preferring death rather than a violated conscience. Such integrity is needed in the Office of publication, where solemn, sacred truths are going forth, upon which the world are to be tested. p. 25, Para. 1, [21OT].
How many family relations will you leave behind?
What if you get fired from your job for the truth?
Are you willing to spend the rest of your life striving?
Is eternal life really worth it?
Do you think your will is strong enough to follow decision?
This trail is narrow and strait, can you make the gate?
Satan gives feelings, are they in harmony with the Bible?
Should you take that first step?
Some will finish in a day, death cuts the ripened grain to the ground, like the thief on the cross, hours remain, probation’s door’s hinges never squeak.
You have heard it said, “A watched pot never boils.” I have a task for you. Take a pot or a pan and put the amount of water in it you would like. Then put it on the stove and turn on the heat. Now, stand there and watch that water in that pot until it boils.
You will have learned some valuable lessons doing this exercise. You will learn that there are many things leaned in this life that must be un-learned. At some point in your experience you MUST correct many of the errors you were taught. Here is another; what you don’t know CAN hurt you! And the pain is real!
In the performance of this exercise you will be thinking of … waiting, … and, watching, … which is good. You will see the destruction of the false teaching and the fulfillment of the true. This will help confirm in your mind God’s instruction to you, “wait and watch, until….” You will learn that patient waiting and watching “until…,” which is a good word, “until.” It means, “seeing a thing through to the end,” a patient waiting and watching until Christ comes to knock at your door, so you can open to him immediately.
The desire of our Lord is that we should be so watching, that when he cometh and knocketh, we may open to him immediately. A blessing is pronounced upon those servants that he finds watching. “He will gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.” Who among us in these last days will be thus especially honored by the Master of assemblies? Are we prepared without delay to open to him immediately and welcome the Master? Watch, watch, watch. This watching and waiting, ready, all ready to welcome our Lord, has ceased with nearly all. We are not ready to open to him immediately. The love of the world has occupied our thoughts, and so filled our minds that our eyes are turned downward to the earth, but not upward. We are hurrying about, engaged in different enterprises, with zeal and earnestness, and God is forgotten, and the heavenly treasure is not valued. We are not in a waiting, watching position. The love of the world and the deceitfulness of riches eclipses our faith, and we do not long for, and love, the appearing of our Saviour. We do too much ourselves, to take care of self. We are uneasy, distrustful, and greatly lack a firm trust in God. Many worry and work, and contrive and plan, fearing they shall suffer need. They cannot afford time to pray, or to attend religious meetings, and, in their care for themselves, leave no chance for God to care for them. The Lord does not do much for them, for they give him no opportunity. They do too much for themselves, and believe and trust too little in God. p. 100, Para. 2, [16OT].
Friday September 24, 2010
For years I used to fret and worry over all (that came to my knowledge) the wrong-doing of politicians and governments, and espouse right-doing, for the benefit of the people and the good of the land. I used to have a stack of about five inches high of just Readers Digest articles, removed from the rest of the magazine, about the evil practices of politicians, in general.
Then I came to the realization that there was a very definite process in motion. People generally want to “know” about events, (read TV news) that makes them feel good, like they are somehow participating. But this “knowledge” precludes action. Thus the infamous story of a person, who falls down on the sidewalk in New York, with streams of people flowing by, breaks their leg, needs help, and has to wait some extended time for someone to stop and help.
Story after story of all types are out there demonstrating that people generally will not get “involved.” I quit collecting articles. I quit reading the Readers Digest. I have not had TV in my house for over twenty years.
Reality hammered me that I was trying to make a “heaven on earth.” This version of earth is not our home. The earth made new will be our home. We are living in the time of the “anger of the nations.”
I saw that the powers of earth are now being shaken, and that events come in order. War, and rumors of war, sword, famine and pestilence, are first to shake the powers of earth, then the voice of God will shake the Sun, Moon and Stars, and this earth also. I saw that the shaking of the powers in Europe is not (as some teach) the shaking of the powers of heaven, but it is the shaking of the angry nations. p. 11, Para. 2, [CEV]. {note: about this time there was much turmoil in Europe}
I saw that the anger of the nations, the wrath of God, and the time to judge the dead, were separate events, one following the other. I saw that Michael had not stood up, and that the time of trouble, such as never was, had not yet commenced. The nations are now getting angry,.p. 9, Para. 1, [CEV].
It appears to me at this time that God’s people should have nothing to do with politics. Our business is to get ready for Heaven, not trying to make all things right, here. God himself is the one who places ALL people in government.
...to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. Daniel 4:
I have two pictures on my wall, the first is of a fire truck, sitting in front of the Murrah building, on the undamaged road, in Oklahoma City, in the very spot where the government told everyone there was a huge crater; the second is of the burning top of the North Tower on 9/11, both, mute evidence of just what our government is capable of doing. I have discovered in the last ten years that people who are true Christians, or honest at heart, understand the truth and lies surrounding 9/11.
Notice this next amazing text.
A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; the prophets prophecy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so…. Jeremiah 5:
If God’s people love to have it so, where does that leave the wicked??? pray tell? If God’s people heap to themselves teachers, (2 Timothy 4:) after their own lusts, just what do you think the wicked are doing??? They are heaping to themselves politicians after their own lusts; therefore, those same politicians go about doing the very evil the rest of the complaining wicked would do were they placed in power!
It is God that protects you and I. It will be God that will allow you to be dragged before the national spotlight when he so desires.
I asked my accompanying angel the meaning of what I heard, and what the four angels were about to do. He said to me that it was God that restrained the powers, and that gave his angels charge over things on the earth, and that the four angels had power from God to hold the four winds, and that they were about to let them go, and while their hands were loosening, and the four winds were about to blow, the merciful eye of Jesus gazed on the remnant that were not sealed, then he raised his hands to the Father and plead with him that he had spilled his blood for them. Then another angel was commissioned to fly swiftly to the four angels, and bid them hold, until the servants of God were sealed with the seal of the living God in their foreheads. p. 9, Para. 2, [CEV].
We are in the patient waiting, watching time.
The first and second watches are past. We are in the third watch, waiting and watching for the Master’s return. There remains but a little period of watching now. I saw some becoming weary, their eyes were directed downward, and they were engrossed with earthly things, and were unfaithful in watching. They were saying, In the first watch we expected our Master, but were disappointed. We thought surely he would come in the second watch, but that passed, and he came not. We may be again disappointed. We need not be so particular. He may not come in the following watch. We are in the third watch, and now we think it best to lay up our treasure on the earth, that we may be secure against want. Many were sleeping, stupefied with the cares of this life, allured, by the deceitfulness of riches, from their waiting, watching position. p. 97, Para. 1, [16OT].
But, we are to seek the peace of where we are.
And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried captives; and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. Jeremiah 29:
We need to take another look at this entire consecration requirement. There are some further points to bring out.
Think too of the urgency of the matter. If you are here reading these pages it is because God has sent you, he is calling you to prepare for the action of the last days. The test of sunday sacredness will soon be forced, then the Loud Cry response, by God’s people.
Most, have made an entire consecration, … to themselves.
But those who are involved with the Loud Cry will have made an entire consecration to God.
You are being called to take this step. Think about it. Count the cost.
“While at this house a sister of Elder Bennett requested a private interview with me. She had much to say concerning entire consecration to God, and endeavored to draw out my views in regard to that subject. I felt that I must be guarded in my expressions. While talking, she held my hand in hers, and with the other softly stroked my hair. I felt that angels of God would protect me from the unholy influence this attractive young lady was seeking to exercise over me, with her fair speeches, and gentle caresses. She had much to say in regard to the spiritual attainments of Elder Bennett, and his great faith. Her mind seemed very much occupied with him and his experience. I was glad to be relieved at length from this trying interview. p. 208, Para. 1, [LS80].
“These persons, who made such lofty professions, were calculated to deceive the unwary. They had much to say of love and charity covering a multitude of sins. I could not unite with their views and feelings; but felt that they were wielding a terrible power for evil. I wished to escape from their presence as soon as possible. p. 208, Para. 2, [LS80].
“Elder Bennett, in speaking of faith, said, ‘All we have to do is to believe, and whatever we ask of God will be given us.’ p. 208, Para. 3, [LS80].
“Elder White suggested that there were conditions specified. ‘If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.’ Said he, ‘Your theory of faith must have a foundation; it is as empty as a flour barrel with both heads [ends] out. True charity never covers up unrepented and unconfessed sins. She only drops her mantle over the faults that are confessed and renounced. True charity is a very delicate personage, never setting her pure foot outside of Bible truth.’ As soon as the views of these people were crossed, they manifested a stubborn, self-righteous spirit that rejected all instruction. Though professing great humiliation they were boastful in their sophistry of sanctification, and resisted all appeals to reason. We felt that all our efforts to convince them of their error were useless, as they took the position they were not learners but teachers.” p. 208, Para. 4, [LS80].
The above is a pure rebuke to those who would promote ANY position of receiving from Christ, upon request, without meeting the conditions so plainly specified. Such speakers are very popular and well received. There is no cross to bear, no humbling of the soul before this great God, and this leaves a wide open door for Satan to work with his increased powers, for these last days, to sweep away many.
Here is the passage mentioned yesterday. We will revisit it later.
Where your treasure is there will your heart be also. Selfishness girds them about as with iron bands. It is my farm, my goods, my trade, my merchandise. Even the claims of common humanity by many are disregarded. Men and women professing to be waiting and loving the appearing of their Lord, are shut up to self. The noble, the godlike, they have parted with. The love of the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life, have so fastened upon men and women that they are blinded. They are corrupted by the world, and discern it not. p. 102, Para. 1, [16OT].
Wednesday September 22, 2010
A spirit of solemn and earnest prayer was everywhere felt by the saints. A holy solemnity was resting upon them. Angels with the deepest interest had watched the result, and were elevating those who received the heavenly message, and were drawing them from earthly things to obtain large supplies from salvation’s fountain. GOD’S people were then accepted with him. JESUS looked upon them with pleasure. His image was reflected in them. They had made a full sacrifice, an entire consecration, and expected to be changed to immortality. But they were destined to be again sadly disappointed. The time to which they looked, expecting deliverance, passed. They were still upon the earth, and the effects of the curse never seemed more visible. They had placed their affections on heaven, and in sweet anticipation, had tasted immortal deliverance; but their hopes were not realized. p. 141, Para. 2, [GC58].
What is this “entire consecration?” The pioneers walked this way. You can tell by the blood pressed from their aching feet that is now dried on the nearly invisible path { No. 20, pages 28-32} and know, we walk in the light of the Midnight Cry.
The following are some interesting points. It’s not that we run around saying, “I’m perfect,” or any such thing. The closer you get to God the more you see your faults and errors, but never, never lower the standard. Never say that people must keep sinning in this life, no. We strive for victory.
Full and entire consecration to God is required of us. … If Christ be in us the hope of glory, we shall walk even as he walked. We shall imitate his life of sacrifice to bless others. We shall drink of the cup and be baptized with the baptism. p. 61, Para. 2, [15OT].
If you ever achieve success in the Christian life, you must resolve that you will be men after God’s own heart. The Lord wants your influence to be exerted in the church and in the world to elevate the standard of Christianity. True Christian character should be marked by a firmness of purpose, an indomitable determination, which cannot be molded or subdued by earth or hell. He who is not blind to the attraction of worldly honors, indifferent to threats, and unmoved by allurements, will be, all unexpectedly to himself, overthrown by Satan’s devices. p. 33, Para. 1, [30OT].
God calls for complete and entire consecration; and anything short of this he will not accept. The more difficult your position, the more you need Jesus. The love and fear of God kept Joseph pure and untarnished in the king’s court. He was exalted to great wealth, to the high honor of being next to the king; and this elevation was as sudden as it was great. It is impossible to stand upon a lofty height without danger. The tempest leaves unharmed the modest flower of the valley, while it wrestles with the lofty tree upon the mountain-top. There are many men whom God could have used with wonderful success when pressed with poverty,–he could have made them useful here, and crowned them with glory hereafter,–but prosperity ruined them; they were dragged down to the pit, because they forgot to be humble, forgot that God was their strength, and became independent and self-sufficient. p. 33, Para. 2, [30OT].
No earthly ties, no earthly considerations, should weigh one moment in the scale against duty to the cause and work of God. Jesus severed his connection from everything to save a lost world. He requires of us a full and entire consecration. there are sacrifices to be made for the interests of God’s cause. The sacrifice of feeling is the most keen, yet after all it is a small sacrifice required of us. p. 56, Para. 2, [25OT].
There is another passage that speaks of people saying, “my farm,  my trade, my tools, &c.,” you get the picture. When “a full and entire consecration” really means what we have mouthed about but our hearts were just not there. It’s all God’s. All of it, hook, line and sinker!
Should you be following me around these days you would perchance hear me mouthing, “my tools, my trade, my car, &c., another picture for you to get. It feels so … hum.., stripped bare, it’s total. God does it all anyway. We just need to see that even though the paycheck we get has somebody else’s name on it, it really came from God.
Do you need a job? Are you trying to “make it happen?” Forget it, go to God. He is the great provider. Get your Bible and read again about trying to add a cubit to your height, how that is the least thing. God has created “the setup” in such a way that he is “hidden” and can easily be denied, and millions do. As Christians, we are visible, we give honor where honor is due, to God. That action is a light shining in the dark.
It is all God’s. He wants us to give it up to him completely, understandingly, willingly and you might think of some other ‘ly to go with it all. But it is total.
God Bless your study
